Home to a young family of four and located in the Sydney suburb of Caringbah South, this sleek renovation was carried out recently by Catherine Heraghty of The Stables.

“I am lucky that my client has exquisite taste and we see eye to eye on almost everything,” says Catherine of the project that included a renovation of the powder room and ensuite and the purchasing of furniture for the whole house. The ultimate aim was to imbue the home with a more contemporary vibe.

“When I first met my client, she had already done a few things and there was definitely a hint of Hamptons in the home with the plantation shutters and the white and grey colour scheme – but she was also very keen on more contemporary design pieces,” says Catherine who was tasked with creating something beautiful yet practical for a young family too. “We went for modern yet classic pieces throughout.”

As with all of Catherine’s projects, this one makes marvellous use of texture – gorgeous subtle details such as pennyround tiles, splashes of mid-toned timber and rattan all combine to gorgeous effect.

“I adore the marble pennyround tiles in the powder room, they are the perfect way to add that little bit of luxe and texture to a tiny space without fighting for your attention. Sometimes it’s nice to splurge on certain things to really help lift a space and if you are tiling a small area like this, this is definitely a place to do it!” says Catherine.

Passionate about Australian design, Catherine specified a Jardan console in the home’s foyer and it’s one of her favourite aspects of the home’s refresh.

“I adore the foyer, I feel really strongly about Australian made and Australian designed so to have the console from Jardan in there as the centrepiece makes me so happy! It’s a truly beautiful piece that will last for years to come! The foyer works so well as there is a great selection of beautiful pieces in there and they all sit against that stunning backdrop of greenery out the window – it really is the perfect entrance to a family home,” says Catherine.

Currently working on stage two of the renovation, Catherine has plenty of other design tricks up her sleeve. “Stay tuned!”

What a gorgeous and inviting home! Catherine has created something magical here. The lounge room is definitely a place I would spend most of my time, it’s so peaceful, calming and cozy with the pale grey and white color scheme. However, I simply adore the entry – the blend of greenery seen from the window and that stunning Jardin console, lovely. This is my vision of how a perfect, luxurious, elegant and modern home should look like.
