Dolce & Gabbana and Smeg create a statement fridge

Dolce & Gabbana will soon bring their heavily embellished aesthetic to the home appliance world, with a unique collaboration with Smeg.

If you’re after a statement piece for the kitchen, this partnership more than delivers and it’s a look that’s certainly not for the faint-hearted. Smeg’s iconic retro style FAB28 refrigerator has been reimagined as a grand Italian fresco emblazoned with hand-painted, vibrant patterns and colours and striking depictions of Sicily’s past.

Think uniquely Sicilian symbols of lemons, the trinacria (a reference to the triangular shape of the island of Sicily), cart wheels, medieval knights and battle scenes, all hand-painted by Sicilian artists including brothers Antonio and Guiseppe Bevilacqua and mother and daughter pair Adriana Zambonelli and Tiziana Nicosia.

With only 300 produced, these beauties are likely to be highly sought after and will quickly reach instant heirloom status. They’ll be unveiled shortly at Milan’s design fair, Salone Internazionale del Mobile.
