IKEA’s new fashion-inspired range brings art into the kitchen

Designed in collaboration with Swedish fashion designer Martin Bergström, the IKEA KALVIA kitchen door range brings an abstract, painterly vibe and bespoke designer look into the kitchen this August and all at the affordable price we’ve come to expect from the Swedish mega-brand.

“We know more and more people today have an open kitchen and living room and there is also a strong desire to personalise our homes. The KALVIA kitchen door was designed to double as a work of art to add character and a sense of uniqueness our homes,” says IKEA range manager, Tim Prevade.

Using a new ink jet printing technique, that prints directly onto the door’s foil surface, the KALVIA range includes six different door sizes and each door size features a design that can be turned in all directions giving you the opportunity to tailor the look. The designs are purposefully abstract, meaning they’ll fit into many different types of interiors and will act as a lovely, textural backdrop, whatever the scene.

“I want the patterns I design to open people’s minds to dreams and fantasies. When I created the abstract pattern for KALVIA, I was inspired by organic materials in enlarged or reduced formats. The beauty of this pattern is that the subject is in the eye of the observer,” says the designer Martin Bergström.

These art-emblazoned door fronts are a great way to break up a neutral kitchen and we love the endless mix-and-match possibilities. “Using a white and neutral colour scheme in the kitchen will remain popular for years to come. In using the KALVIA kitchen doors, you can create an exciting effect and unique feature in your kitchen while staying true to your neutral colour scheme.”

For those not in the market for a new kitchen, the KALVIA fronts can also be used in conjunction with the brand’s METOD cabinetry to create stand-alone pieces like a sideboard too. What’s not to like?!
