IndigoJungle: Brisbane’s latest styling duo

When Vanessa Cribb was recommended a stylist for her newly renovated home, she never guessed she would be meeting her future business partner, Caro Toledo. But after months of working together, from sourcing key pieces to designing interior furnishings, the spark had well and truly struck, and the basis of their interior styling firm IndigoJungle was born.

With Vanessa in charge of business and marketing and Caro leading concept and design, the IndigoJungle girls have a sense of style that immediately stands out. Blending new with old, they deliver spaces that are individual, warm and perhaps, sometimes unconventional. “The IndigoJungle spaces are textured, generous, calm, assured, accessible, emotive, layered, eclectic, individual and fun,” explains Vanessa. “With our complementary visual art, design and business backgrounds, we believe in our capacity to visually enrich and illuminate the image and experience of architecture and interiors.”

They provide a wide array of services including interior styling and design, object and prop sourcing, home staging and office and hospitality fit outs. “We conceptualise, design, source, buy and then install,” says Vanessa. “For us though, the installation is the crème de la crème! We don our aprons, come prepared with drills, nails and hooks and see our designs come together as we hang, place and position.”

Based in Brisbane, but able to travel wherever their services are required, the girls have done some very exciting projects from private residences, to restaurants and pubs to their current favourite project: a set design for a local literature festival. “We conceptualised the idea of a masculine reading retreat and went about sourcing large leather armchairs, an ornate timber screen, a soft rug, a coffee table with vintage books, and other collectables,” explains Vanessa. “We also alluded to the space of a library by hanging wallpaper printed with bookshelves and leaning an old timber ladder over the top. It took only an hour to install, but we stood back and said: ‘Hey, we know why we are doing this! We’ve got this covered!’”

With a busy few months ahead, they are in the midst of constructing their workspace situated in the actual jungle opposite Vanessa’s house, as well as looking into expanding the business in a new direction. “We are looking forward to growing our business and the variety of work that this may bring, in responding to our clients’ ambitions,” says Vanessa. “One possibility that motivates us is branching out into temporary installations, commissioning and collaborating with artists to create site-specific works in an interior sense, for particular moments in time. Above the IndigoJungle, the sky is the limit.”
