Broome interior designer launches own furniture

When interior designer Sam Davison started her business last year, she quickly discovered it was difficult to source great, contemporary pieces for her clients without incurring huge freight costs. So she did what many people in the bush do and created them herself. “Broome is a great place to live, but everything here still happens very slowly,” Sam says. “If I want to include new and trending design pieces in my client projects, the freight is often as much as the item itself.”

Although Broome shops have come a long way in the past few years, Sam says the town’s isolation (2,500km from Perth) and limited freight options to the East Coast mean options for contemporary products are limited. This led her to launch her own range, incorporating the latest trends into functional, fun pieces that could compliment most interiors.  “I wanted to bring in colour, texture and a sense of fun – everything that I try to include in my interiors.”

The pieces are also sold on her website and she hopes to make them available in retail outlets across Western Australia and the Northern Territory within the next few months. Each piece is designed and made by Sam, of SD Interiors, in Broome. With the exception of the recycled coffee sacks (sourced from the town’s only coffee roaster), all the fabric is water, stain and mould resistant, so they can be used inside or out and are designed to withstand the harsh elements of the tropics.

My favourite’s the pink dip-dyed stool. What do you think?

Great designs. Thanks for the post. I am waiting on some teal chevron fabric to be delivered for an ottoman of some description and cushions, and this just has me anticipating it more! Cheers 🙂
