As you well know, the digital world has opened up myriad opportunities for DIY home renovators to save a buck – mostly due to cutting out the middle man. DIY Online Blinds is one such company and they offer high-quality, DIY blinds and plantation shutters at just the click of a button.

“We sell Australian made custom blinds direct to customers at wholesale prices. Our point of difference is that we get people to measure their windows and blinds themselves so we have no need for sales people and installers which is where a big chunk of savings is made,” says managing director Evan Montero, who then passes those savings onto the consumer. He is at pains to point out that a ‘free’ measure and quote is anything but. “The in-home ‘free’ quote is not free. The wages are built into the price of the blinds,” he says.

At present, most people either head down the traditional route of an in-home measure and quote or they head off to Bunnings for an off-the-shelf product – DIY Online Blinds sit somewhere between the two. “Our price point ends up being comparable to if you went to Bunnings or similar and bought a pre-made blind, but our product is far superior in terms of quality,” says Evan. The Australian made range includes roller, roman, vertical, venetian and panel glide blinds as well as plantation shutters (these do require a check measure and installation for a flat fee, in metro Sydney and Melbourne areas only). Shutters for a small window can cost as little as $300.

The process is fairly simple. First up, you jump online and choose a range of fabric samples that are express posted for free and then you measure your windows with the company’s easy how-to guide. Once you have placed your order it will be delivered within 15 days. Then you install them yourself with another simple how-to guide.

“We’ve not had a single problem in the 12 months since we started so we’re confident it’s a straightforward process for customers,” says Evan, who explains that the blinds come with a five-year warranty for peace of mind.
