House porn: A mind-blowing Sydney Harbour penthouse

Part of a new $170m boutique Sydney development, this penthouse hit our inbox recently and we felt it too good not to share; SJB and Mathieson Architects’ work on the project is almost as spectacular as its awe-inspiring views. Located at Kurraba Point, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, the residence is really something else.

“The Penthouse is some 430 square metres over two levels and has all the amenity of a large waterfront home,” says Phillip Mathieson, the director of Mathieson, who designed the home with a neutral yet refined materials palette of solid limestone, marble, bronze and fine oak timbers. “The use of light, proportion, materiality and crafted details are utilised throughout the residence to create a sense of understated luxury,” says Phillip.

Part of a larger development (there’s 24 residences in total), the penthouse has 180-degree views of iconic Sydney harbour landmarks – the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Botanical Gardens, Barangaroo and the CBD are all featured in the home’s incredible vista.

There’s a private lift lobby, formal living and dining spaces, kitchen, butler’s pantry and powder room. There’s also a sitting room with fireplace, library/study and timber-lined, humidity-controlled wine cellar.

The kitchen features high-end Wolf and Sub Zero appliances paired with super luxe expanses of Grigio Argento. Fluted marble detailing and house-like amounts of storage up the luxe factor.

A stone staircase and internal elevator connect the entertaining level with the private bedroom level. “Four bedrooms, each with dressing room and ensuite, are entered from a sky-lit gallery space. Pride of place is the master bedroom suite, located within a sweep of curved glass. An adjacent dressing room is lined with glass-fronted robes from luxury Italian atelier Porro,” says Phillip.

The bathroom features carved marble basins, Danish Vola tapware, a custom stone bath and more of the aforementioned bronze. “The master ensuite is designed as a private sanctuary with a marble-lined shower enclosure and a sculptural marble bath. The monolithic vanity unit is crafted from Statuarietto marble with the vanity mirror suspended from a circular skylight over.”

Further adding to the home’s off-the-charts luxury, the penthouse has an adjacent outdoor terrace, gym and steam room too. Dangar Barin Smith took care of the carpet of grass that leads down to the harbour’s edge. “The generous living areas open onto a vast 250m2 private garden terrace and swimming pool with spectacular city and harbour views beyond,” says Phillip. Wow. Just wow.

How much for all this? We figure if you can afford it, you won’t mind asking!
