Kerrie Hess’s guide to the Paris hotspots

Yesterday, we were lucky enough to feature a tour of illustrator Kerrie Hess’s Paris apartment. Today, we share her guide to homewares shopping, eating, drinking and people-watching in the city of love. If you’re planning a trip, take note!

Kerrie’s Paris: where to hang out

  • Although I lived on the Right Bank, I am actually much more Left Bank in spirit. I loved getting lost in little streets like Rue Buci in St Germain that has so many lovely little cafes and boutiques.
  • Although full of tourists, all of the usual spots like Cafe de Flore (Jen’s favourite too), Les Deux Magots etc are always fun for people-watching.
  • Catching up with girlfriends is lovely over sweets at Ladurée or Angelina. A chic lunch ‘au terasse’ at Hotel Costes is always lovely.
  • A new left bank favourite is also Semilla (run by a group of Australians, I believe) in St Germain.
  • Afternoon tea at Le Meurice’s Le Dali is gorgeous.
  • For a truly Parisian experience I would have to say that dinner at The Cristal Room, which is attached to the Bacarrat Muesum, is just amazing.

Where to shop for the home

  • For homewares I recommend the antique markets of Clignancourt. It’s a full day trip, and a bit of a way out of town, but absolutely worth it.
  • In town, I adore all of the little one-off boutiques for home decor in and around St Germain and also Zara Home for lovely inexpensive home decor, linen etc.
