Printing for Solidarity: grab bargain artworks for a cause

Running this month, Printing In Solidarity is an online art fundraiser curated by Australian artist Hugh Van Schaick in response to the global Black Lives Matter and the ongoing Stop Aboriginal Deaths in Custody movements.

The project brings together a diverse range of Australian artists who share the goal of becoming better allies by raising money and awareness. Until 1 September, you’ll be able to buy some amazing digital prints from the likes of Amrita Hepi, Stanislava Pinchuk and Zaiba Khan, Anu Kumar, Glendyn Ivin, Saskia Wilson, Bryce Anderson, Sam Doctor, Evie Cahir, Maxwell Finch, Chaya Kasif, Patrick Cremin, Steve Tierney and many more.

Prints include reproductions of photographs, paintings, drawings, collages and prints sold as digital prints on fine art paper ranging from a very affordable $100 to $150. There will also be a small selection of limited editions and one-off original works available. All proceeds will be donated to the Aboriginal Legal Service and Children’s Ground.

“As the world stands in solidarity with the black community in the US, we acknowledge that this is just as much an Australian issue,” says Hugh. “For too long, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait community have suffered injustice and violence inflicted by our government and police.

“We hope to raise funds to support the work these organisations are doing to support young Indigenous Australians. It’s time to speak up, using our voice and platform to encourage accountability, change the discourse and fight for the equality and sovereignty of our First Nations peoples.”
