1888 Hotel: Sydney’s newest boutique accommodation, designed for Instagram lovers

Sydney’s latest boutique hotel in the heart of Pyrmont, will be giving a particularly warm welcome to Instagram users in a smart marketing move.

1888 was the year Kodak launched with a patent for its first box and roll cameras and the hotel will honour the evolution of photography by offering Instagram-friendly walking maps for the area, a revolving series of Instagram images in the Mac space at reception featuring photos taken by guests and a ‘selfie space’ for guests to pap themselves.

1888 Hotel is also offering a complimentary night to any Instagram users with more than 10,000 followers. In addition, every month, the guest who snaps the best Instagram picture while staying at the hotel will score a free night’s stay.

Originally used for wool storage, the 1888-erected building that houses the hotel has undergone a $30 million development over the last 2 years to reveal a luxury property that offers 90 rooms, including a rooftop penthouse apartment overlooking the city.

The aesthetic is distinctly Australian, blending the natural elements of reclaimed Iron Bark, concrete, stone and bronze with exposed brick walls and a 5-storey, light-filled internal atrium. High ceilings and huge period windows reflect the heritage history and overall feel of the building.

Paul Fischmann, CEO of owner 8Hotels, said: “1888 Hotel is the most beautiful and unique of our 21 properties and is the culmination of a long and extensive collaboration to develop an exceptional boutique hotel in a wonderful location.

The property is just footsteps away from the city, the Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, the Entertainment Centre and the business districts of Pyrmont and Ultimo. The hotel has such an authentic, contemporary aesthetic that we thought we should embrace the fact that all modern travellers can take memories away with them using their smartphones and share their experience with friends.”

1888 Eatery & Bar serves up continental breakfasts, rustic share plates and a carefully selected beer and wine menu with a focus on fresh and local ingredients sourced from artisan providores.

It’s currently offering a Picture Perfect opening package including a night for 2 in a king room, an 1888 antipasto plate and 2 glasses of wine, complimentary internet connection, use of iPads in room and breakfast, from $239, until 30 September. Book here.

I’m looking forward to staying soon and sharing a review with you.
