Scandiluxe: Simple and stunning timber & brass wall hooks

Combining raw, natural timber with brass, the Scandiluxe range caught our eye recently – and while the range is small, it’s perfectly formed. A product of the combined talents of husband and wife team Nikki and Julian Reid, the range came about when the couple were seeking a design solution for their own home renovation.

“Scandiluxe happened instinctively and without a plan at first. While renovating a small house we needed wall hooks in our entry and Julian happened to have some dowel lying around at home from a stair rail he had been working on. Within a few cuts we had designed the Kink wall hook and we liked it so much that we thought other people might too,” says Nikki of the brand’s top seller. “The Kink hook is the first product we designed and I guess it evokes a nostalgic feeling knowing we originally designed that for our own home.”

The range has now expanded from hooks to items such as ladders, towel rails, light pulls and coat stands.

With a background in high-end architectural building (mainly highly detailed finishing work), Julian is a carpenter by trade but he’s been involved in several business start-ups over the years too. Nikki has a background in interior decorating and a passion for Scandinavian aesthetics, something she attributes to her Dutch parents. “They had a simple but beautiful approach to living – they built most of our homes and they were unique and functional. That rubbed off on me and I took a liking to Scandinavian design and living.

“We both feel that Scandinavian interiors are as much a lifestyle as a look. We are dedicated to honouring the natural, raw beauty of timber whilst adding an element of luxe and without compromising on functionality. Ultimately our inspiration comes from wanting to simplify and beautify peoples’ interiors,” says Nikki, who lives with her husband in the small bayside town of Wynnum in Brisbane.

A standout, I love the timber five-rung wall rack from the bathroom collection and Julian does too. “I feel that it signifies where we are going as a business,” says Julian who has big plans for expansion “We plan to scale. Growth is our main goal and this will include new collections,” says Julian.
