Marc Newson for Noritake: available outside Qantas first class!

I am a big fan of colour, but sometimes you just can’t beat pure white, and the dinner set by Marc Newson for Noritake is one such example.

Originally designed for use in Qantas first class cabins, the collection of fine bone china pieces — from plates, bowls and platters to cups, saucers, mugs and teapots — is now available to all. Very contemporary, yet an instant classic in terms of its simple lines and low profile, each delicate piece is of commercial quality, exhibiting superior durability, chip-resistance and suitable for both the dishwasher and microwave oven.

With numerous accolades, including world’s most influential designer and Royal Designer for Industry (UK), Marc was an obvious choice to design the ultimate dinner set showcasing his inimitable skill of combining minimalist aesthetics with timeless style.

The collection was originally available as a complete 20-piece dinner service but has now been released in a series of four-piece gift sets, perfect for those who want to gradually build the collection or a wonderful gift idea. Four-piece gift sets are available for multi-bowls, small bowls, 27cm dinner plates, 21cm entrée plates and 16cm bread and butter plates. There are also tea cup and saucer sets for two, mugs for two and espresso cups and saucers for two.

Each of the sets is beautifully gift boxed and available nationally from department stores, kitchenware retailers and online. For more information visit Noritake here.

Sublime’s design director, Kim Duffin, was acknowledged for his work in transforming a derelict block of flats in New Farm into a magnificent home. But up against international design firms from China, Singapore and India, it was no easy win! “Being recognised at an international level is something all Australian designers aspire to,” says Kim. “The design community in Brisbane has really come of age and is up there with the world’s best.”

This is the first international design award won by Kim and takes his award tally to over 80 regional, national and international awards in eight years. Having won Australian Kitchen Designer of the Year five times, Kim still believes this award is especially exciting as it is a stepping stone into the exploding Asian market. “It was a privilege to be able to breathe new life into an old character home. This project highlights how our lifestyle revolves around our beautiful climate and that the blur between indoor and outdoor living is a necessity in our daily lives. I am thrilled to be recognised at this level.”
