Inspired by the whimsical scenes of a French bistro, the new Le Restaurant collection by Noritake features beautiful reproduced cartoons in a predominantly black and white colour palette.

The quirky range comprises of cereal bowls, dinner plates, pasta bowls and salad plates plus serving bowls and platters, mugs, salt and pepper shakers and a sugar and creamer set.

The plates and bowls are sold in sets of four with each piece depicting a different cartoon. There are also dinner sets of 16 and 43 pieces. The serving set comprises of a large bowl and platter.

While most of the dinner set is in crisp black and white, the pasta bowls and serving bowl have small touches of vibrant colour to add further interest. Each piece of Le Restaurant is highly durable being designed for everyday use – it is chip resistant, dishwasher safe and microwave safe.

I am a big fan of colour, but sometimes you just can’t beat pure white, and the dinner set by Marc Newson for Noritake is one such example.

Originally designed for use in Qantas first class cabins, the collection of fine bone china pieces — from plates, bowls and platters to cups, saucers, mugs and teapots — is now available to all. Very contemporary, yet an instant classic in terms of its simple lines and low profile, each delicate piece is of commercial quality, exhibiting superior durability, chip-resistance and suitable for both the dishwasher and microwave oven.

Famous for their exquisite dinnerware, Noritake are now bringing Japanese ceramicists Miyama, to Australian shores.

Miyama – winner of five Good Design Awards – have produced a delicate Sumi Sake Set (above) in the highest quality porcelain. Comprising of a carafe and two cups, the Sumi Sake Set takes its elegant design from the earliest traditional shapes, creating a seemingly contemporary aesthetic with long straight lines and an ultra-smooth finish.

For those looking for larger tumblers, ideal for herbal teas, Miyama also produced a Minamo Tumbler Set featuring a textured surface in a soft blue glaze.

Mix and match with new Noritake Colourwave dinnerware

I’ve looked at a lot of plates recently while trying to finalise our wedding registry! Do you go for something plain and simple that won’t date, or be brave with something a little more statement or fun? I still don’t know to be honest! I’m thinking grey. This new Noritake Colourwave range is a nice balance and you could mix and match or stick to one colour.

The Japanese brand have reinvented their traditional stoneware with the addition of turquoise and apple green (pictured), charcoal grey and raspberry. It’s all super robust, microwave, dishwasher and oven safe.
