Create and shop your own mood board with Design It Yourself

Design It Yourself is a new website that allows you to experiment and create your own room interiors with the latest products from a host of Australian retailers. “It’s basically a mood board for novices. Consumers can create their own style boards using genuine available products and, best of all, it’s free!” says director Carli Harrison.

Ideal for anyone thinking of renovating or restyling a room, the software produces simple yet professional looking two-dimensional mood boards and allows you to click through to the products to purchase and create a shopping list too.

Current brands on board include Adairs, Fantastic Furniture, Taubmans, House of Home, Early Settler, Spaces and Places, Classic Timber Furniture and DeLights. “We are approaching new brands every day though only Australian retailers will be featured.  Zanui and Hunting for George will be live very soon and we are currently looking for a flooring supplier,” says Carli.

As for the retailer side, the interface promises to be a user-friendly one. “The interface provides a dashboard with daily stats on click through and use of products. There is a subscription cost and cost per click for retailers. Plus it’s fun and easy to use and promotes a new and exciting way of increasing the emotional engagement from customers with products,” says Carli who explains that Design It Yourself is not an eCommerce platform.

“We are not an eCommerce site. We are supporting Australian retailers by sending consumers back to their websites to purchase the items they have used in their designs,” says Carli, who has plans to launch a mobile version in January. “We also intend to evolve the platform to align with what our consumers and retailers need.  This is just the start. We also have a blog on our website called ‘Simply Styling’ that’s great for tips.”

IKEA’s new design it yourself lighting range

I’m loving this new wave of lighting and furniture that allows you to be the designer. And one such product is IKEA Australia’s new NYMÖ COPPER range, which sees you make your own personalised pendant, table or floor lamp.

JUWYt1Rl31y4qWpM9_XkQTEXp9ztt0jmCVZMSM7WaXI,iEm0-blCBwfluCQ_h2d_pNrYHBPquWRITf858KNWemc,vk08KfHiuqLP9xRY6V35O4uvHoo1YFmA7ATBtWIX9DY,8oIAK1HhmQuVzyli2zgtSubmGJV_1_aLY3Cni8n_xdo,81Be8O4mmR9JuHJ-v1RCuVrnKsHHc6LdFhtqQWorpGI

By combining a NYMÖ COPPER lampshade with your choice of cord set or base, you can make a statement in your room with an oversized textile pendant shade, creating beautiful diffused light over your space.

With prices ranging from $24.99-to-$59 they are extremely affordable and what’s more, if you purchase your lampshade with an LED light bulb, you’ll be helping The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) as well.

Up until the end of March, every LED light bulb purchased from IKEA Australia stores will see the IKEA Foundation donate €1 to UNHCR. The much-needed funds will help UNHCR to provide refugee camps in Asia, Africa and the Middle East with solar-powered street lights and lanterns — making them safer, more suitable places for the families who live there.
