Perfect match: Our top six dining table & chair sets

Finding the perfect dining table and chair combination is no easy task – especially given there are so many options on the market. And while the mismatched trend has been popular for a while now (a look typically achieved by purchasing a table and chairs separately) it’s not the easiest task – even for the design savvy. Which is where the rather old-fashioned prospect of a matching dining suite comes in, which takes the guesswork out of the purchase completely.

Fantastic Furniture Retro 7-piece dining set: The Scandi-style table works well with the Eames-inspired chairs and the set is a steal at $639.

Fantastic Furniture

Super Amart Industrial 7-piece dining suite: While this chunky dining table wouldn’t suit everyone, the replica Bentwood chairs soften the look and the price certainly eases the blow! $999.

Temple & Webster White Oslo 5-piece dining set: Combining solid American oak legs and frame with white matte lacquer, this Scandinavian style set would suit just about any space. $849.

Interiors Online Austin dining table and bench set: The bench set has been out of favour of late but I’m predicting they’ll make a comeback, mostly because you can fit more people around them (when compared to individual chairs) making them ideal for apartment living. $1,739.

IKEA INGATORP/ÄLMSTA table and four chairs: This round turned wood dining table extends to seat six should the occasion require it. The black rattan chairs are something a bit different. $949.

Life Interiors’ Anton 5-piece dining set in natural oak: The base of the dining table was the kicker for me – mid-century inspired and super chic. $1,299.

Greg Natale’s New York-inspired furniture collection

Inspired by his favourite city (and admittedly mine too!), Greg Natale’s latest furniture collection, HUDSON (a salute to New York), features an elegant range of case goods, lounges, beds, sofas, dining tables, chairs and occasional tables.

“I first visited NYC in my early twenties. It was love at first sight. After all this time I still find myself swept up in the spirit of the Metropolis; each year I unearth a new layer that inspires, provokes and invigorates me creatively. HUDSON is a nod to the flourish, the glamour and the refinement that New York enjoyed post-Second World War, in designing HUDSON I wanted to honour both a city and a golden age.”

Comprising of 20 superbly finished products, the range created in partnership with respected, family-owned Australian furniture makers, Casa Mia, evokes an old world charm with a contemporary twist.

Wishing to create modern pieces that give a nod to the past, Greg was particularly inspired by the striking architecture of the Colosseum and the minimalist style of fashion house Halston. “I like to work with repeat patterns, and the Colosseum’s iconic arches offered the perfect inspiration. I knew also that I wanted to create slick, streamlined pieces with a touch of glamour. A more recent reference for me is that glorious world of Studio 54 in its ’70s heyday, when a sleek, sexy yet minimalist style prevailed, embodied by the designs of fashion guru Halston, one of my perennial inspirations.”

Choosing to use materials such as glass and marble with gold-leaf finishes, the collection is the epitome of luxe opulence. Partnered with the arches of the table bases, geometrics of the dining chairs and rounded frames of the armchairs, the Greg Natale for World’s Away collection is the perfect balance of strength and elegance.

What a huge week for Greg whose first book, The Tailored Interior, launched on Saturday.
