IKEA’s science fiction inspired pendant wins a Red Dot Award

Having always been a huge fan of science fiction movies and video games, designer David Wahl was inspired to create the IKEA PS Pendant Lamp. And looking at it, it’s not hard to see its resemblance to a spaceship or an intelligent space weapon!

With a simple to use mechanism, all you need to do is pull the strings and the shape of the lamp shade as well as the intensity of the light changes. When closed, only a small amount of light finds its way out, while when fully opened, more light spreads out, creating interesting light effects on the wall.

Receiving ‘An Honourable Mention’ for its well-executed design work, thought-out design solution and mechanically simple but effective dimmer function; it was assessed by a 38 member jury among 4,928 other designs, representing 56 countries.
