The latest colourful kitchen appliances

The trend for colourful kitchen appliances isn’t going anywhere any time soon and I have to admit, they’re becoming quite tempting! Red is apparently the best selling colour of these products, but personally, I really don’t like using red in my home AT ALL. Clearly I’m in the minority!

It’s not just red these days though; there are plenty of colours from pastels to brights, whatever your personal palette. Here’s my roundup of some of the nicest out there at the moment. Which are your favourite?

IconaVintage_AntiaRange

De’Longhi’s latest Icona Vintage collection is inspired by the brand’s Italian heritage and is an extension of their existing 1950-styled Icona range. There’s a set of matching manual coffee machine (RRP $299), kettle (RRP $149) and 2 or 4-slice toaster (RRP $149 & $189) with curved silhouettes, accentuated by 5 new shades which take their colour cues from the 1950s: tan leather, cream and mahogany, olive green, sky blue (pictured) and black velvet. So there’s something for everyone.

Bosch Miracle Blue MUM5 Kitchen Machine MUM54530AU (without accessories)

Later this month, Bosch is introducing pastel colours to its Styline Kitchen range with the MUM5 Kitchen Machines (RRP $699). Two new models will be available in vivid Miracle Blue (pictured above) and cheerful Yellow Passion. They’re complemented by silver and chrome trims, appealing to both classic and contemporary kitchens. Each comes with a stainless steel bowl and accessories, including a fitted lid, continuous shredder, blender, kneading hook, beater, whisk and citrus press.

Morphy Richards, Traditional Kettle & Toaster - Blue

These almost-navy blue appliances from Morphy Richards are much more my cup of tea. The kettle ($139.95) and 2 and 4-slice toasters ($99.95 and $119.95) are available online from Zanui.

Kambrook red toaster

Kambrook’s Profile Stainless Kettle and Profile 4 Slice Toaster (RRP $49.95 and $69.95 respectively) are an affordable way to add a splash of colour if you like the traditional red. They also have white kitchen accessories for those wanting to play it safer.

Whirlpool’s going red too, with this microwave and a bar fridge in the colour. The Crisp and Grill Red Microwave (below) cooks just like an oven, in microwave time, and its Gratin function allows cooks to crisp up and brown the top of baked goods. In a microwave! Really! Available exclusively at Masters.

Every kitchen needs a radio, right? I couldn’t go past this pretty Orla Kiely-designed one with a built-in kitchen timer. Cute! The Pure Evoke Mio (RRP $299) DAB digital radio has an iPod dock, mirrored chrome handbag-style handle, making it easily portable, and a walnut veneer cabinet.

The Electrolux TURBOPRO stick mixer (RRP $119 to $139) comes in watermelon red (pictured above) and liquorice black and promises to take your cuisine to the next level, whether it’s whisking an egg, grinding up curry paste or blending an icy cold cocktail.

Breville have taken a slight twist on red with their new colour Cranberry (pictured above). It’s almost an Interiors Addict pink! They also have appliances in black and white. From $89.95 for a kettle through to $549.95 for the Scraper Mixer Pro.

So, are you up for a pop of colour in your kitchen or will you be playing it safe with neutrals? Are you one of the thousands who buy red appliances for the kitchen every year? I’ve always lusted after a SMEG fridge but know I’ll never be able to decide on which colour because it’s such an investment piece. I could certainly have some fun with some of these cheaper appliances though!

I’ve just arrived home from purchasing 2 appliances from the Delonghi Icona vintage collection and turned on the computer to read your post! I’ve unpacked them and they are on my kitchen bench looking glamorous as I type. x

I agree with Lynda. Traditionally I love red (to the extreme I fear!) but I’m loving yellow these days. I like the idea of a touch of colour rather than a huge block so I’d go for the Kambrook kettle and toaster but steer clear of the microwave. It’s a bit too much!
