Australian kitchen trends: New cooktop combines induction & gas!

From a brand new style of engineered stone to a combined induction and gas cooktop, there are plenty of inspiring new products in the kitchen space this winter.

Smartstone Ibrido: When it comes to engineered stone surfaces, there’s a new kid on the block in the shape of the new Smartstone Ibrido collection. With concerns around the amount of silica present in engineered stone (notably, there’s a potential risk to tradies’ health upon installation), this range is Australia’s first low-silica surface collection and it also happens to be made from 56 per cent recycled materials. The range comes in seven fabulous marble inspired shades and is available in jumbo sized slabs (3200 x 1600mm).

Bosch: In a coup for Bosch, it has been awarded the ‘Most Trusted Brand’ in the ovens and dishwasher categories of the Reader’s Digest Annual Trusted Brands Awards. The awards, currently in their 23rd year, are voted by Australian consumers, and celebrate the brands that Australians trust the most.

“Brand trust is incredibly important to us here at Bosch. We have a strong focus on quality that aligns with our German heritage. As our brand revolves around precision engineering and exceptional quality, our customers can purchase Bosch products with absolute peace of mind knowing that we are continually on a quest for technical perfection, while making life in the kitchen easier and more enjoyable,” says Jessica Deuscher, marketing manager of Bosch.

Ilve INDD94 Induction Cooktop with Integrated Downdraft: For lovers of seamless kitchen design, the latest from Ilve will make you swoon. With decades of experience in manufacturing range hoods, paired with innovative induction cooktop technology, this neat design fuses cooking with ventilation.

The design features an integrated open and closing flap that, when in use, allows for optimum efficiency and when closed, it prevents odours from escaping and stops objects entering the ventilation cavity. The flap’s outer surface is made from the same toughened glass as the cooking surface, making it easy to clean. All liquids, including grease and condensation, are collected in an internal catchment tray complete with a drain valve. $4999.

Smeg cookware collection: Inspired by the curves of the Italian brand’s iconic FAB28 fridge and small appliance collection, Smeg has launched its first cookware range. Comprised of eight designs, the collection comes in three colours (black, red and cream) and includes saucepans, frying pans, a braising pan and a wok. The practical, dishwasher friendly collection is compatible with gas and induction and is suitable for oven cooking too. From $179.

A highlight of the range is the UltimateTaste 900 Hybrid Induction with Gas Burner Cooktop (EHH957BE) combination. That design lets you enjoy the speed and precision of induction cooking with the performance of gas for the best of both worlds. Clever!

LG Signature Kitchen Suite: Just launched at Milan Design Week/Salone del Mobile, LG has introduced the Signature Kitchen Suite of high-end built-in solutions. The range integrates into existing kitchens and combine innovative designs with premium technology designed to ‘reimagine the cooking experience,’ according to the brand.

Smeg appliance latest: In other news for Smeg, the brand unveiled a host of new designs and innovations at this year’s Eurocucina in Milan. Pairing the brand’s signature Italian style with the latest technology, some highlights include fresh colour ways in the brand’s range of ovens and range hoods as well as new integrated wine cellar options.

Julia & Sasha share kitchen, mudroom and laundry

Photography by Marcel Aucar

Last time we caught up, our kitchen and laundry had just been installed but the finishing touches were a mere pipedream. Fast forward to 2018 and we’re done and dusted. If we’d ever questioned the notion of love at first sight, we don’t anymore. These spaces have far exceeded our expectations and we’re walking around with all the heart eye emojis. If you’re not yet familiar with our design and installation process, you can read about it here. Go on… I’ll wait.

Kitchen

Now we’re on the same page, it’s time for the fun stuff. We’ve always loved the process of fixing stone bench tops as it pulls the entire look together and adds an element of luxe. We opted for Caesarstone in Calacatta Nuvo for its marble-like appearance and ability to blend classic meets contemporary. It’s also extremely low maintenance and more cost-effective than natural stone. At this point in the renovation, any saving is a good saving and we’re thrilled to bits with the end result. We opted for a frontal waterfall on the island as it defines the sink from the prep area and looks bangin’ to boot.

There’s still more than enough room for three stools and ample space to hang about. Our island measures 3000mm x 1200mm, the maximum when using only one slab of stone. We’re not big fans of longer benches as they require multiple slabs, resulting in an extra join on the surface.

We stuck with the same stone for the splashback in the kitchen but changed it up in the butler’s pantry. The zone opened up ten-fold by using a smoked mirror and we love how it defines the spaces. There’s still a seamlessness as the cabinetry and bench tops are consistent but the use of mirror adds depth and interest. It’s also really easy to keep clean which should always be the MO in any prep area (or so I tell a very messy Sasha).

Among our favourite things are the soaring Sierra cabinets in Matt White from Freedom Kitchens. The Sierra range is a beautiful Shaker-style profile which looks modern yet classic at the same time. We love a generously proportioned space and one of the best ways to achieve this is by taking joinery sky high. The upper cabinets are readily available and measure 1250mm. There’s more storage than you can poke a stick at and they make the room feel infinite. It’s a great trick to implement if you have limited floor space but want to increase the grandeur of your kitchen. You can thank us later, alligators.

Drawers were always big on our list of must-haves and we crammed in as many as we could. They’re so much easier than cupboards when storing everyday items like crockery, containers, and pots and pans. I once did my back while searching for a mixing bowl which was very inconvenient as I had a party to attend and wound up sitting at the dessert table with my friend’s grandma all night. There’s no chance of that happening at Little Willow as we have drawers for days! Freedom Kitchens are clever folk and added some nifty storage solutions like cutlery dividers, a walnut knife holder, and our amazing spice rack. We could buy all the spices from the supermarket and still have room left over. Clever, indeed.

Of course, cupboards are still handy for those things used less often and they’re in abundance in the butler’s pantry. I’m crazy for the corner carousel shelves they installed in the corner cupboard, previously known as the place ‘where things go to die’. It makes such perfect sense and is also really fun to play with. The added depth of our island made way for extra storage in the seating area. Big props to our designer Jack for working so hard to maximise functionality by utilising every inch of available space.

Another big hit are the white sinks. When we settled on the gold tap, we knew we had to skip the standard stainless steel as it can be hard to mix metals. White was a natural alternative and the effect it has is seamless. The sinks are made of composite granite so they’re durable and virtually scratch-resistant. We’re more than happy to share the love so if you need one in your life, head to Reece and ask for the Franke Impact Granite Undermount in White.

On The Block, we were lucky enough to work with Gaggenau and we loved them hard. We didn’t think it possible to develop an affinity with any other appliance brand until NEFF came along. Golly gumdrops, they’re amazing! Our oven stack is so impressive – the doors actually tuck themselves away when you open them. If you haven’t seen them in action, hit up our Insta for a Boomerang demonstration. Our stack includes an in-built Coffee Machine, Compact Oven with Microwave, Slide&Hide Combi-Steam Oven, and Slide&Hide Vario-Steam Oven. That’s a lot of ovens for one house so the new owners best enjoy cooking. The piece de resistance is of course the FlexInduction Cooktop with Integrated Downdraft. Rather than going up into a regular rangehood, steam is sucked down into the vent. How’s that for forward thinking?!

The kitchen is complete with two NEFF dishwashers and our double fridge/freezer from Bosch. Where are they, you ask? Hidden behind four integrated panels right near the island bench. It’s such a great way to dress large appliances and something we’ll be doing in every property moving forward.

We utilised the working triangle when designing this kitchen and it really does make a difference. The general rule of thumb is there should only be a few steps between your sink, cooktop, and fridge. Ours are positioned just so and the space sings because of it.

Of course, we’re all about lightness and brightness so we decided to splash out on three VELUX skylights. They let in a phenomenal amount of natural light and we can’t recommend them enough. Even if you’re not doing a full renovation, it’s worth considering adding a few throughout your home as they truly offer bang for buck. They’re such a focal point and amplify everything in the space, including our White Smoked boards from Royal Oak Floors. Together, they bounce the light around and are a match made in Heaven.

Laundry and Mud Room

If there’s beauty in simplicity then this is it. We carried through the Sierra profile to maintain consistency and added functional shelving to break up the look. Our penny round tiles from Beaumont work so well with the Intense White bench top from Caesarstone. The gooseneck tap from Sussex pops against all the white and marble and collectively elicits the most serene vibe. There’s a high chance I’ll be rolling around in dirt just so I can use this space. (OK, maybe not rolling around but I won’t crack it if I spill coffee on my white dress, that’s for sure).

It’s hard for me to admit but Sasha’s mud room came up trumps. Originally I wanted a whole bank of cupboards but she insisted on creating an Insta-worthy space so I relented and let her at it. It’s such a usable zone with outdoor access so there’s no reason for muddy footprints to be dragged through the house. After endless harping, I managed to get my way with tropical wallpaper and I love how it pops against all the white.

I’m calling it – of the four kitchens and laundries we’ve created, these are my absolute favourites. They’re so striking and functional. Some people think all-white spaces are boring but I truly believe there is nothing better. They have an elegance all their own and give off a feeling of light. As Bill Murray said, ‘There has to be a lightness; you have to be as light as you can be and not get weighed down and stuck in your emotion, stuck in your body, stuck in your head. You just want to always be trying to elevate somehow.’ Sure he was talking about something deeper than kitchens and laundries but his advice rings true. We have all the lightness there is and I hope you love our spaces as much as we do.

Our sincere gratitude to all our suppliers for working tirelessly with us. Their knowledge and commitment has made all the difference and we’re forever indebted for the time, energy, and care they’ve shown. There’s something extra special about companies that not only supply product but eagerly anticipate the end result. That kind of enthusiasm is hard to come by but they have it in spades.

Until next time,

Julia xx

Get the look: All the details from Sunday’s Block kitchens

Kitchen week is always one of the biggest weeks on The Block… I’m sure I wasn’t the only one oohing and ahhing while watching Sunday night’s reveal! With each kitchen boasting new metallic and textured finishes and of course enviable appliances, we thought it’d be the perfect time to give you all the details so you can get the Block look at home.

Josh and Elyse

Scoring a perfect 30/30, Josh and Elyse’s kitchen was a contemporary take on a traditional Hamptons style kitchen. In a risky move – that paid off – their island bench was the only one oriented to face the garden rather than the living area, enhancing the feel of indoor-outdoor living. Another winning feature was their enormous hidden butler’s pantry, which the judges loved; Neale saying it was “large enough for an army of butlers!”

Details:

  • Freedom Kitchens cabinetry in Sierra Cinder and White profiled doors
  • Caesarstone benchtop in Noble Grey (Jen has chosen this for her own kitchen) with waterfall ends
  • Appliances by Bosch – freestanding stainless steel fridge, 900mm gas cooktop, integrated coffee machine and warming drawer

Jason and Sarah

Also gaining top scores were Jason and Sarah, who created a contemporary kitchen featuring new metallic and concrete finishes. I particularly loved their integrated fridge hidden by platinum cabinetry, as well as the built in shelf behind the cooktop. In the words of Neale: “Genius!”

Details:

  • Freedom Kitchens new metallic cabinetry in Titan, plus Super Matt Black and Blackened Elm
  • Caesarstone benchtop and splashback in Statuario Maximus and new Rugged Concrete
  • Accessories by Hettich
  • Appliances by Bosch –Pyrolytic Oven with added steam and warming drawer

Ronnie and Georgia

Coming in third were Ronnie and Georgia with their luxurious industrial style kitchen. Darren was impressed with their use of black, saying it was the cut through a grey kitchen needed. Having won an appliance upgrade to NEFF earlier in the show, the couple had the most technologically advanced kitchen in the competition.

Details:

  • Freedom Kitchens cabinetry in new Beton (textured light concrete) and Matt Black
  • New Caesarstone Rugged Concrete in kitchen and pantry
  • Appliances by NEFF – new induction cooktop with downdraft ventilation and Pyrolytic full steam slide and hide oven, integrated coffee machine, combi microwave

Sticks and Wombat

True to style, Sticks and Wombat produced an edgy kitchen with organic tones and raw textures. They chose a concrete look for their ceiling-to-floor cabinetry, which blended seamlessly with their self-made stone-box over the rangehood. I loved their dining table bench made from a high quality laminate, a look Neale labelled as: “Raw luxury”.

Details:

  • Freedom Kitchen textured dark concrete finish in new Valetta
  • Dining bench in new Tobacco Halifax Oak – looks and feels like real wood
  • New Caesarstone benchtop range in New White and Turbine Grey
  • Appliances from Bosch – fully integrated bottom mount fridge/freezer and black glass flame select gas cooktop

Hannah and Clint

Hannah and Clint’s kitchen made a statement with its contemporary tones and sophisticated use of materials. I was a fan of their island bench, featuring a wine fridge, open display shelving and an integrated Bluetooth sound system. The perfect entertainer’s kitchen.

Details:

  • Freedom Kitchens cabinetry in Charcoal Riven and Pewter with LED lighting
  • Caesarstone benchtop in Calacutta Nuvo
  • Appliances by Bosch – Induction cooktop and integrated fridge and coffee machine

Bosch’s powerful, robust and easy-to-use pressure washers

I honestly find pressure washing so satisfying. Insofar as I’d actually request to do it as a child! So Bosch’s newly released, extensive high-pressure washer range, has, rather embarrassingly, got me reminiscing about the good old days!

hhaqt179

Featuring the powerful and robust AQT 45-14x, the AQT 42-13 and the AQT 33-11 (a different model for every price point) each pressure washer is already assembled and immediately ready to use. Made from high-quality equipment, they are compatible with a range of versatile accessories that can be stored on the tool, such as lances, hoses and brushes. And thanks to quick SDS click connections, the tool itself and the attachments are easily assembled in seconds and ready to be used.

Ensemble_AQT_45-14X_06008A7400
The most advanced pressure washer: AQT 45-14x

The range of accessories is extensive, making the washer extremely versatile. The standard AQT 42-13 comes with the Deluxe Patio Cleaning attachment with an extended handle and four different nozzles, a fixed fan jet nozzle, a rotary jet nozzle and a high pressure detergent nozzle. The AQT 45-14x is even more flexible in its range of operations. Included in the pack is three cleaning lances; a variable fan jet lance, a rotary lance, a 90-degree nozzle and a high pressure detergent nozzle.

The AQT 45-14 X and the AQT 42-13 also include a telescopic handle which can be extended to a height of 90 centimetres. Transporting the washers is easy with the 18 centimetre rubber wheels whilst the integrated base plate allows the washer to be stabilised when winding up the hose into the hose reel. Both models include an auto-stop and self-priming function allowing the motor and pump to stop when the gun switch is released. This ensures water will never escape unintentionally.

hhaqt191

The AQT 33-11 is clever and compact – a lightweight tool to get the job done. This is the tool for basic and occasional cleaning work. At a weight of 4.5kg with the fixed fan nozzle, it is able to be conveniently picked up and transported to the desired place of work. Thanks to the energy-efficient auto stop system in the tool, energy is delivered only when needed in order to preserve power. Use the AQT 33-11 for any task from hosing down your bike to washing down windows and patio furniture.

The new Bosch pressure washer range will be available at Super Cheap Auto from the end of this month, with prices ranging from $129-to-$499.

The Good Guys dish out some clever dishwasher tips

Anyone with the TV turned on lately (ahem, I don’t deny couch potato-ing during The Bachelor) may have come across the recent Finish Australia ad, which goes a little something like this:

“Breakfast: dishes. Dinner: dishes. Marriage: dishes. Divorce: dishes. Sleeping: dishes. Not sleeping: dishes. Life: dishes. Death: dishes. Existence: dishes, dishes, dishes.”

Morale of the story: life is a huge load of dishes, and dishwashers are the solution to making life a little easier.

Asko White Electronic Dishwasher
Asko White Electronic Dishwasher

One of my biggest pet hates is seeing pans, plates, mugs and cutlery pile up higher than the pyramids of Giza. Invest in a dishwasher, and all that dish caused stress disappears (unless you’re stuck with awfully lazy roommates – as far as I’m aware they haven’t invented a self-loading dishwasher yet).

Buying a dishwasher is all well and good, but choosing the right one for your lifestyle and needs might require some research.  Luckily, The Good Guys Dishwasher experts have pulled together a few tips to make the choice easier:

1. Size Have your measuring tape handy because you need to buy a dishwasher that fits perfectly into the space you have set aside. The guessing game is not fun when you end up with a dishwasher two centimetres too wide, so make sure you get your calculations correct from the start.

2. Capacity An average family usually requires a dishwasher that has a 12-place setting capacity. This means it has room for 12 dinner plates, 12 soup plates, 12 tea cups and saucers, 12 dessert plates, 12 tumblers, 12 individual knives, forks, soup spoons, teaspoons and dessert spoons. If you’re a smaller household (or have a grandmother who insists on washing dishes by hand) you probably won’t need something that big.

Fisher & Paykel Stainless Steel Double Dishwasher
Fisher & Paykel Stainless Steel Double Dishwasher

3. Type and Style The size of your dishwasher depends on the type of dishwasher you chose and there are three main options:

–  Full sized, which fits 12 to 14 place settings, is great for those with a large family or for those you just love to throw a large dinner party every now and again

– Slimline, will fit 9 to 10 place settings, with space left over for a pot and pan

– Compact, fits 6 or less place settings and is best for any singles living the life

Aside from the size, you should also consider between a freestanding (suitable for kitchens with already available spaces) or built-in style (usually fitted with a unit door that blends in with the rest of the décor).

4. Energy efficiency Dishwashers come with both energy and water ratings. Obviously, the more stars, the more energy efficient the appliance is. Some believe that hand-washing dishes saves water, but in most cases dishwashers actually use less water (ahem, grandma!).

Bosch White Freestanding Dishwasher
Bosch White Freestanding Dishwasher

5. Features Dishwashers come with a range of features, including:

– Wash cycles, with regular dishwashers having normal, delicate and heavy cycles. Some have additional programs, such as extra-hot washes for added hygiene or high-speed settings that get small loads finished fast.

– Drying cycle, because who wants to dry the dishes themselves?

– Delayed start is an energy-saving feature that can have your dishwasher start the cycle only during off-peak times.

– Self-cleaning filters are my personal favourite. Just as the name suggests, some higher end dishwashers clean themselves. Although pricier, it saves you the hassle of manually emptying out the filter.

If you’ve suddenly developed an itch for a new dishwasher, check out The Good Guys for more information.

Appliances Kitchens RENO ADDICT The Block

Olivia visits The Block’s kitchens and shares her opinion and all the product details

So I’ll let you in on a little secret. A couple of hours before The Block reveals air, we get the photos of all the rooms. The problem is, we don’t get the judges’ comments, so I spend a good 30 minutes trying to decipher who wins. I must say I’m normally pretty accurate — though I will admit I did not see Josh and Charlotte’s 30/30 score for their master bedroom coming!

But my guessing game went into overdrive last week, when I got to see The Block’s kitchens in the flesh (days prior to the reveal). Judge Shaynna Blaze led the tour, and though I attempted on countless occasions to get her opinion out of her, she kept mum (you should be proud, Channel 9)!

Screen Shot 2015-04-16 at 1.33.08 pm
Shaynna and I

So below are all my views and all the product details, should you wish to try and replicate the kitchens in your own home.

Ayden and Jess: Modern traditional

Looking at the kitchen alone and ignoring how it fitted into the surrounding space, it was my favourite. I liked pretty much all of it bar the glass-fronted cabinets. I just don’t see them as realistic. People have mismatched dinnerware; it just seems so messy!

H3_R8_JA_kitchen39

On-trend and functional, the profiled cabinetry in a Stone Grey brought an element of sophistication and the benchtop choice of Silestone Lyra added a natural feel to the classically styled kitchen. Designed and built to entertain, Jess and Ayden opted for Electrolux appliances throughout the kitchen, as well as Breville small appliances and Oliveri taps and sinks.

H3_R8_JA_kitchen02

Dea and Darren: Urban glam

While I later found out how different my opinion was to the judges, the Double Ds produced my second favourite kitchen. And if you looked at the space as a whole (so the kitchen, living and dining as one), well then it shot straight to my favourite. Yes, the ‘goalposts’ were weird, but it was the only townhouse that actually had open plan living.

These 'goal posts' got a LOT of mentions and not in a good way!

The kitchen is really the social hub of the home, executed through smart and functional design without compromising on style (though that mosaic tile splashback was a bit OTT). With Silestone benchtops in Cemento Spa and Pulsar, the appliances included an integrated Vintec Wine Fridge, a Bosch 762 litre French Door Fridge, a Bosch warming drawer, Oliveri sinks and taps and Breville small appliances.

H4_R8_DD_kitchen27

Tim and Anastasia: Modern monochrome

I found Tim and Anastasia’s kitchen layout quite bizarre, what with it being almost like two galley kitchens attached in an L-shape. Standing in it was very cramped, though that said we were 50 or so people there! However, what I did really like was how they connected their kitchen to the terrace with bi-fold windows; perfect for indoor-outdoor living.

The Block in Melbourne

Using contrasting colours and textures of black and white and gloss and matt, the kitchen focused on modern elements like handle-less cabinetry and used soft greys — of the Silestone benchtops in Lagoon — to help balance the monochromatic scheme. Appliances included the Delonghi oven and built-in combination microwave, with a Samsung 636 litre fridge, Breville small appliances and Oliveri taps and sinks.

H2_R8_TA_kitchen00

Josh and Charlotte: Minimalist

I totally agreed with the judges on this one. In person, I couldn’t get over the huge blank space behind the timber bench. It looked so unfinished and cold. Josh and Charlotte’s style is minimalism — which can be great — but I think this time it was taken too far.

The Block in Melbourne

Using crisp white cabinetry, offset by a raised cafe style timber bench and Titanium drawer fronts, the kitchen also included subtle marbling in the Silestone benchtop in Helix. To complement this, Josh and Charlotte used Fisher & Paykel appliances, with an integrated fridge and a gas and ceramic cook top, Breville small appliances and Oliveri sinks and taps.

The Block in Melbourne

Finally, a special thanks to The Good Guys for flying me to Melbourne and giving me a behind the scenes look at The Block. I loved it!

Frankie says ‘Relaxx’x… with a Bosch vacuum cleaner’

There must be too many ‘x’s hanging around the Bosch offices. The company famous for its power tools has hurled a few spares at the name of its new vacuum cleaner range. If you’re a lover of silence or a lover of pets (but not together, there are two separate models for each type of person) then you’re in luck.

Bosch has launched the new Relaxx’x ProSilence and the Zoo’o ProAnimal. I’m a big fan of silence and I’m also a big fan of animals. But if I was reading this I would be struggling to see how on earth a vacuum cleaner could dare put ‘silence’ in its name, let alone ‘pro’, and what vacuum cleaners have to do with animals aside from scaring cats when you switch them on. Read on and you’ll find out!

Five appliances you (or more accurately, I) didn’t know existed

I live in a little bubble. It’s warm and cosy. There is a PlayStation in it, and a TV, and a laptop. I have a frying pan as well, a toaster and a kettle… I could go on, but you get the point. I have all the basics required to live a rather simple but entertaining life. Then an esteemed colleague of mine started this blog, Appliance Addict, and my mind was progressively blown as weird objects trying to pretend to be appliances landed in our apartment.

To be fair, they are actually appliances, they’re not just moonlighting. Which would be pretty odd – an inanimate object moonlighting as an electrical appliance. The news media would be all over that on a slow news day. It was more my appliance innocence, not realising that a) half of these tasks could be done at all, let alone with a specific appliance and b) anyone actually needed to do these tasks.

Bosch VeroBar 600 coffee machine with Brita water filter

I associate Bosch with power tools. My Dad owns a virtual library of Bosch power tools so the name association is drilled, pun intended, into my head. But Bosch do more than that (as we have covered on Appliance Addict already, here) including coffee machines. Its machines are a Nespresso haters dream.

Bosch VeroBar 600I’m all for Nespresso, by the way, but it’s unarguable that there are those out there who won’t touch the capsule coffee scene with a barge pole. It leaves them in a bit of a pickle if they want a quick coffee that tastes half decent. This is where the Bosch VeroBar 600 could come into play.

New Bosch dishwashers with Zeolite technology

I was introduced to the wonderful world of dishwashers 3 years ago when I first moved out of home. Before then it was all manual, like our cars. But since then I have grown to love and loathe the dishwasher. I love it because it’s so easy to use and to wash an enormous amount of dishes in one go. It’s usually environmentally friendly too. I loathe it because washing tablets are expensive and the quality is patchy depending on the brand. Could a better dishwasher help the latter?

Bosch Dishwasher SMV69T10AU

Bosch would like to think so. It has released a new range of dishwashers – 20 in total in fact. It would take all day to talk about every single one of these washers, so here is the quick spill.

The latest colourful kitchen appliances

The trend for colourful kitchen appliances isn’t going anywhere any time soon and I have to admit, they’re becoming quite tempting! Red is apparently the best selling colour of these products, but personally, I really don’t like using red in my home AT ALL. Clearly I’m in the minority!

It’s not just red these days though; there are plenty of colours from pastels to brights, whatever your personal palette. Here’s my roundup of some of the nicest out there at the moment. Which are your favourite?

IconaVintage_AntiaRange

De’Longhi’s latest Icona Vintage collection is inspired by the brand’s Italian heritage and is an extension of their existing 1950-styled Icona range. There’s a set of matching manual coffee machine (RRP $299), kettle (RRP $149) and 2 or 4-slice toaster (RRP $149 & $189) with curved silhouettes, accentuated by 5 new shades which take their colour cues from the 1950s: tan leather, cream and mahogany, olive green, sky blue (pictured) and black velvet. So there’s something for everyone.

Bosch Miracle Blue MUM5 Kitchen Machine MUM54530AU (without accessories)

Later this month, Bosch is introducing pastel colours to its Styline Kitchen range with the MUM5 Kitchen Machines (RRP $699). Two new models will be available in vivid Miracle Blue (pictured above) and cheerful Yellow Passion. They’re complemented by silver and chrome trims, appealing to both classic and contemporary kitchens. Each comes with a stainless steel bowl and accessories, including a fitted lid, continuous shredder, blender, kneading hook, beater, whisk and citrus press.
