Melbourne’s Atherton Gardens HUB Development has been awarded the Grand Prix title in the 2013 Dulux Colour Awards at a gala function held at Luminare last night.
Co-designed by McCabe Architects and Bird de la Coeur Architects, Atherton Gardens HUB also won the Multi Residential Exterior category. The judging panel said it displayed exceptional bold use of colour on the external façade of the balconies which in turn created a vibrant impact and strong contrast against the white external walls.
The Commercial Exterior winner was Wintergarden Façade by Studio 505.
The Commercial Interior was won by John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School (JSRACS) Campus, Western Australia by Brooking Design Architects.
Single Residential Interior went to Queen St Residence by Edwards Moore Projects Pty. Ltd.
Single Residential Exterior went to Annandale House by CO-AP Architects.
Multi Residential Interior went to 87 Chapel St by MGS Architects.
The Student prize went to Backyard Shinanigans by Adrian Rivalland (RMIT).
Debbie Ryan, principle of McBride Charles Ryan Architecture and Interior Design, one of the four judges, said: “There was an obvious trend in the ambitious use of bright colours and pattern across all categories both exterior and interior this year with many projects exhibiting a strong sense of place and context.”
The other judges were Dana Tomic Hughes, interior designer and blogger at Yellowtrace; Adrian Doyle, Melbourne street artist and director of Blender Studios and Melbourne Art Tours; and Denise L’Estrange-Corbet – New Zealand designer and co-founder of fashion label WORLD.
The 2013 Dulux Colour Awards, now in their 27th year, were sponsored by Katnook Founders Block, Bobble, Cather, Catherine Manuell Design, Cocobella, Copic, Emeldo, Instant Rockstar, LaZuppa, Mr.Lacy, Oreo, Plumm, Space Furniture, Terry’s, Toblerone and Tupperware.
