New BIG W homewares to elevate your home on a budget

BIG W’s new line of homewares, Sunrise Valley, will give your home an Insta-worthy update for autumn without breaking the bank.

Introducing autumnal tones and patterns, the range has landed in store and online in time for the cooler months ahead. Gary Chen, senior designer for home at BIG W, said they wanted to focus on small changes that will have a big impact. Taking inspiration from Scandinavia, you’ll find stylish yet practical items featuring deeper colours, tactile fabrics and big floral prints. Bag yourself a trend-inspired piece for under $10!

Our picks:

Home Trading Co Arch Storage Box – Pink, $65

A cute plush ottoman with storage for your kid’s playroom or the living area. Chic and functional, featuring a subtle rainbow design on the lid.

House & Home Large Ceramic Round Vase – Indie Cottage, $12

The gorgeous colour shouts autumn and this larger vase will look great with or without flowers/foliage.

House & Home Pinsonic Quilt Cover Set – Rolling Plains, $39-to-49

This gorgeous earthy toned set features a geometric quilted design that will subtly add texture to your room. Once again, the still on-trend rainbow motif is still there but pared back.

House & Home Sunrise Valley Boucle Cushion – Mellow Pink, $16

A great way to add a pop of colour to your home and introduce the season’s must-have textile.

House & Home Sunrise Valley 12-Piece Dinner Set – Sheer Pink, $39

The dining set features four bowls, four side plates and four dinner plates and also comes in grey.

This may surprise you, but BIG W is our pick of new homewares and here’s why

Sponsored by BIG W

While you may not immediately think of BIG W as the place to find our pick of this season’s top homewares, the retailer has proven that style doesn’t need to mean expensive.  Seriously, the latest Spring homewares at BIG W look way more expensive than they are! I’ve already shared a lot of them with you on Instagram but today I’m making sure what I tell you about is available to buy online right now (as I write this!) so don’t delay!

I also had a chat with BIG W’s senior design manager for Kids & Home, Gupreet Panesar, to get an idea about how a new collection comes together. “As a team, we don’t believe that creating something that can be family-friendly and affordable means we need to sacrifice on style or variety,” she told me. “As such, we look to capture the trends we are seeing globally, and bring them to life with designs across textiles and furniture that can stand the family test, and make quality pieces at a more affordable price.”

I found out it’s not a case of starting from scratch each season, but more of a rolling evolution. “We are continually thinking about the customer mission and living our purpose: we make a real difference for families. When we break that down it provides us with direction. Mums and dads are looking for a product that is on trend but is easy to care for and can be tossed into the family wash time and time again. Value is so much more than price.”

With everyone having spent so much time within their homes this year, nesting, finessing and resetting, softened colours, playing with textures and trends from nature, are all highlights. “This is coupled with our renewed sense of outdoor living,” Gupreet says. “I really love our coordinated outdoor ranges that enable picnics, casual backyard BBQs and a little panache to your life outside.

“Our customers want to create a space where they feel like they are on vacation and our range does just that. The “staycation” trend is what we used to develop key pieces in the range.”

There’s a whole range of matching items in the outdoor range such as beanbag covers, beach towels and outdoor cushions from $19.

When it comes to refreshing your home for Spring, Gupreet says the simple swaps are often best. “New bedding, towels and rugs all provide a new look and feel in the home if you want to switch it up a bit. Adding a pop of colour, texture or prints are the best ways to spruce up your space and create that feel of change for the new season.

These bargain muslin throws are perfect for spring on the bed or sofa and come in heaps of colours

“If patterns and pops of colour aren’t in your design palette then we have dry florals, natural materials, indigo blues and more classic fabrics to uplift your space.”

Also worth a mention is all the stylish storage. I believe you can never have too many baskets for chucking things in (especially toys at our house!) and these, starting at $16, are both great.

Another favourite pick of mine are these zipped linen cushions covers in 55cm and 65cm sizes, which are a steal at $15 and $19.
