Formulated especially for vertical timber surfaces, it is a high strength timber preparation product that makes it easy to prepare and revive vertical timber surfaces so they are ready to take on the coating you desire, such as a protective oil or timber stain.

Because RevivaGel is a gel, there are no drips to worry about. And it won’t damage glass, which makes it ideal for doors and window frames, as well as fencing, screens, outdoor furniture and other vertical timber. Getting superior results with RevivaGel is simple. Apply the gel neatly, without diluting. Leave on for 15 minutes and scrub off. Easy!image006Intergrain products are designed to protect the natural beauty of timber and are recognised as Australia’s high performance, environmentally responsible timber finishes. RevivaGel is available in 1-litre and 10-litre sizes.

Another standout was the residential interior award, which was won by Taylor and Hinds Architects for Tasmania’s Lagoon House. The judges commented on the “ability of the design to gently bring the inside out” and were impressed by a use of timber that is “so solid and delicate, simple and beautiful.”

The public space award won by Sue Barnsley Design for Jubilee Playground is also worthy of mention. Situated in Sydney’s Glebe, the use of timber is not only educational, but “stylistic, free and with a sense of adventure”, such as the handcrafted, pod-like cubby house hidden within a fig tree.

Intergrain’s revolutionary phone app will change the way you renovate

As timber continues to be an iconic feature in the Australian home, leading wood care company Intergrain have launched a revolutionary new iPhone and Android app, allowing DIYers and professionals alike to preview finishes before a project has even started.

IGR269_IntApp-PR-Imagery_2

The first-of-its kind in the Australian DIY market, the app aims to change the way renovators plan for furniture, flooring and decking projects, with timber finishes able to be selected and tested virtually. The app’s ‘visualiser’ function allows you to choose from different types of timber or upload a photo of your own timber to see how an Intergrain finish will transform it.

IGR269_IntApp-PR-Imagery_4

“This revolutionary app from Intergrain arms consumers with the confidence to select the highest performing finishes early on in the project planning phase,” explains Intergrain brand manager James Fisher. “The new app also allows users to estimate the amount of product required, save different visualised colours and easily share their timber project vision with friends and family at the click of the button, making the entire process simple from start to finish.”

The new Intergrain Timber Finishes app can be downloaded for free by visiting the Apple iTunes store or Google Play.

Entries now open for the Intergrain Timber Vision Awards 2015

One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at (Canberra’s Hotel Hotel in the Nishi precinct by March Studio) and one of the most gorgeous homes I’ve ever written about (Lilyfield Warehouse by Virginia Kerridge Architects) were two of the winners of last year’s Intergrain Timber Vision Awards. I therefore have very high hopes for this year’s entries!

Winners of the Intergrain Timber Vision Awards announced

This year’s winners of the Intergrain Timber Vision Awards don’t disappoint. Think a stunning warehouse conversion in Sydney, two holistically sustainable properties in Melbourne and a hybrid of art and architecture in Canberra.

Created to celebrate the valuable role timber plays in Australian architecture and design, this morning’s awards breakfast saw four winners picked from over 100 entries. With winners in both residential exterior and interior and commercial exterior and interior, the competition was fierce, with many entries pushing the boundaries with their innovative use of timber.

The two residential award recipients demonstrated how timber could be used as an alternative to other materials with advantageous sustainable qualities. Stonewood by Breathe Architecture, took home the title for best residential exterior, thanks to the unique details of its surrounding context and taking inspiration from an 1850s Georgian cottage. The best residential interior went to Lilyfield Warehouse, a NSW property designed by Virginia Kerridge Architects and a home that has to be one of my favourites ever (you can read more about it here)! With seamless integration between old and new, the project was awarded for its honest and strong response to an old building, demonstrating creative timber adaptation to an existing industrial warehouse.

The Commons commercial space, also designed by Breathe Architecture, won best commercial exterior. The project was awarded for its holistically sustainable and functional aspects, designed to off-set the harsh urbanised conditions of its inner city location. Judged best commercial interior was the multipurpose building Nishi in Canberra, which I visited only last month when I stayed at Hotel Hotel. Designed by March Studio, believe me when I say that it is as amazing in real life as it is in photos!
