Australian bathroom trends: March 2018 edition

While it only seems like yesterday that we brought you our monthly bathroom wrap, it’s time to share our latest wet area finds yet again. From a rustic basin to a high-tech toilet, there’s plenty of fabulous new bathroom finds.

IB Rubinetterie Kelly Hoppen Zero 3 wall spout square: Featuring the celebrated American designer’s signature clean lines, this timeless chrome mixer that would complement just about any bathroom. The range features basin and shower fittings too. $990.

Merwe Arroyo Basin: A fabulous rustic basin alternative, this beauty has been pre-patinated to give it a weathered, one of a kind finish. The patina (or tarnish) process can take decades so this is perfect for those that cannot wait. As a bonus, the patina gets better with age. $2499.

Candana sink

Roca In-Wash Inspira smart toilet: For a technical product, this toilet looks very slick. You may have come across toilets like these in Japan (think all sorts of whizz bangery that you didn’t know you needed) and now you can get one for yourself at the relatively affordable price of $3500. My favourite feature is the in-built night light.

Beaumont Tiles Vulcanic Ash tile: It’s the large format (747mm x 747mm) and industrial aesthetic that impressed us with this rectified porcelain tile. Ideal for a large bathroom the finish is inspired by volcanic rust and rock.

Goccia basin mixer with spout: Inspired by the fluid shapes of water (the spout looks like a water droplet), this matte black mixer has gorgeous slim lines.

Bathroom basins: what’s new in 2018?

Our last round up of bathroom wares was way back in November (such is the nature of the silly season etc.) and while there is a plethora of new products to entice, it seems that early 2018 is all about basins!

Candana Goccia Collection counter ceramic vessel basin in platinum: This is quite the splurge but it would make an amazing hero piece. The shape is inspired by the natural flow and shape of water, and the basin itself is handcrafted in Italy. I love the gorgeous curves of this piece – especially in the platinum finish. It’s also available in chrome, silver, black, brushed chrome and white. $4,840.

Laufen Val round counter basin with overflow, one taphole 500mm white: “This material allows for thin walls, very precise geometries and a sharp radius. Val is about precision,” says Konstantin Grcic, head designer of the Laufen Val range. This basin certainly has lovely lean lines and paper-thin edges but while it’s incredibly fine, it’s also super strong. The cleverly integrated asymmetric shelf is a great feature too – the perfect spot for soap or your favourite hand wash. $1500.99.

Bocchi Lucca coloured vessel basin: While I’m not a fan of all the shades (there are 15 all up), the pastel ones are rather lovely – the pale blue would make for an unexpected splash of colour in the bathroom. Gloss white, $450, all other colours, $680.

Laufen Ino wall basin with shelf: Made from one piece of material, this organic-inspired basin is super slick. “By not having a wide rim – as we know from conventional washbasins – we were able to create a more generous basin,” says the basin’s designer, Toan Nguyen. $2,300.

Flamma ISVEA monoblock basin: Featuring a sculptural design, this freestanding basin was inspired by an ignited flame and is sure to be a talking point. It’s available in platinum, bronze and white. $2,500.

Stylish and functional new bathroom range from Philippe Starck

When design maestro Philippe Starck lends his deft touch to a design project you know the end result will be stunning. His latest collaboration with Duravit is no exception.

Highly functional yet seamless and unobtrusive, the ME by Starck series of furniture washbasins are perfect for modern interiors but timeless enough to complement any design scheme.

Generous in proportions, the washbasins sport thin edges that make them appear seamless from all angles and they’re also available with L-cube vanity units that boast handle-free, self-closing functions and pull-out compartments too.

The vanity units not only look great but they’re highly functional too – we love the addition of vanity storage which is ideal for tight spaces and keeping the bathroom clutter-free. The range is available in an array of sizes and finishes including matte white, anthracite oak and dolomiti grey and floor standing on chrome feet or a plinth panel.

We’re particularly taken with the pair of vanity basins that are flush-mounted on a polished concrete console – great for industrial-themed interiors. The mirrors are also very cool –  available in eight different widths they come with glare-free LED light frames and on/off infrared sensors with dimming functions.

There’s nothing we love more than a marriage between stylish design and clever function and this collaboration delivers in spades.
