Pantone’s colour of the year Radiant Orchid: I’m just not a purple person!

Hmm… Pantone’s new colour of the year, Radiant Orchid, has left me screwing up my nose a bit. Really?

I mean, it’s pretty and all, but I’ve just never been a purple person, with interiors or fashion. Same goes for red. Give me a nice pink or fuchsia any day and don’t get me started on my love affair with good old classic and dependable navy blue (check out my wedding stationery).

I didn’t like Tangerine Tango a couple of years ago either, but I have come around to certain shades of orange (more coral, really), especially when paired with navy (what a surprise!). But I’m not sure Radiant Orchid and I are going to get along. What do you think? Are you a fan?

For the purposes of this post however, I thought I’d try damn hard to find some purple furniture and homewares I liked the look of and the above 4 are changing my mind with their loveliness. Maybe I could have small pops of orchid in my home? It is rather pretty…

(Above) Clockwise from far left: Bonnie and Neil check floor cushion in lilac, $185; Lona de Anna Purple Sky print from Down That Little Lane, $25; Have You Met Miss Jones mini purple bird feeder bowl from Hard to Find, $23; Mateus lace accent plate in purple from The Wedding Nest, $132 for a set of 4.

NB. If I’m really honest with you, even though these products are really nice, I’m still not vibing Radiant Orchid. There, I said it!

I’m not a fan of purple in interiors either but it looks great when paired with your fav, navy. A little colour combo I learned, dressing my daughter

For Radiant Orchid, a little bit goes a long way…..I think it can be done in a tasteful way – so long as one is restrained when using the colour…I think accessories are a great way (and not so permanent) of incorporating this colour into your home – should it be for you!

Purple is a tricky colour to live with. I’m joining my honey in Sydney this summer and he sent me home details for a potential house purchase. Shocking purple walls, no biggie I can paint. Wow, high gloss purple cabinets in the huge otherwise perfectly laid out kitchen. Not so easy to repaint. Maybe but honey, keep looking.

I have to agree with you Jen. Purple and I just don’t seem to work – might have something to do with the semi-Gothic stage I went through aged 16. I dyed my suede, winkle-picker shoes purple…..yikes!

But I think you chose some nice accent pieces. Easy to experiment with pops of colour without major commitment.

Maybe you should have a look at the different tints and shades that are available in the purple colour family? I’m sure with an open mind you might just find a purple hue that you fall in love with… Also, It all depends on what other colours and textures you’re putting with it – gold, silver and black always work well with this colour, get out there and experiment..:)
