Art alert: Scott Petrie’s work just got a lot more affordable

Scott Petrie is one of my favourite Australian artists and his work is just beautiful. It has always however, been a little (okay, a lot!) out of my price range. And while I think his originals are worth every dollar of the thousands they go for, I’m so excited that we now have the opportunity to buy signed prints for the first time thanks to his collaboration with Sydney-based The Art and Framing Company (AFC).

Award-winning Scott, a favourite of leading interior designer Greg Natale, who uses his work in many of his projects, is excited to introduce his work to a larger audience. “I have been painting for over 15 years and exhibiting throughout Asia, Australia and America, being hung in art prizes, for which I am very fortunate. I’ll continue to do this and I don’t feel the print range will take away from the one-off paintings or their value. To be able to give people quality at a lower price point is fantastic.”

And the “phenomenal” response just proves he made the right choice: “The response from interior designers and stylists, right through to the retail market has confirmed that having a signed collection at an affordable price range was a great idea. It has exceeded my expectations and I feel totally appreciative that my collection has been embraced,” says Scott. You can now see his prints in the guest rooms at the Greg-Natale revamped Kirkton Park Hotel in the Hunter Valley, NSW.

Scott said he had an instant connection with Marianne Zahos of AFC: “She was very enthusiastic about encouraging Australian artists in our market and promoting their works with integrity and of course quality.”

There are 14 prints to choose from and prices start at $250 unframed. Scott’s personal favourite at the moment is Fragile Earth: “It has a subtle layered feel with depth and calmness. I am extremely influenced
by nature. My studio is near the national park out of Sydney and I spend a lot of time there tracking and exploring the beaches and bushlands.”

You can choose to have your print professionally mounted and framed (in a choice of three finishes) from $450 including the print. All prints are open edition, signed by the artist and printed on 305gsm Hahnemuhle Art Rag Paper.

Artist Scott Petrie to have his first solo exhibition in Melbourne

Australian contemporary painter Scott Petrie is back in the country, and will open his first solo exhibition, Beyond, at the RTIST Gallery in Melbourne from 10 September.

Scott Petrie 2014

His first Australian exhibition since returning from Singapore, where he was based for the last three years, Beyond will include 12 artworks inspired by nature that feature a soft and subtle palette of pinks and blues as well as the more earthy greens.

Beyond is about reflecting upon and looking for more than what your eyes can see,” explains Scott.“It’s about noticing your senses, feelings and the depth of these artworks, which have been influenced by my surrounds in recent times. I always look to nature, the sea, the sky and all that is around us. The peace, energy and strength of, for example a stunning ocean or expansive national parkland, is an experience I want viewers to get from these paintings.”

With a style that creates a depth and tone that changes with the light of the day, Scott hopes these vivid but subtle coloured works will stir up new emotions in his audience. “I want my artworks to tell others about my journey but also to have meaning for those who view my paintings,” says Scott. “I feel so very fortunate to be surrounded a lot by nature, which for most artists is the start and end point for inspiration.”

A favourite artist of ours and many interior designers, you may recognise Scott’s work thanks to Greg Natale often featuring it in his projects. Scott’s original paintings start at $2,800 at 50 x 50 cm size, up to $7,200 for larger paintings more than a metre square.

Beyond is on from 10 September until 1 October at RTIST Gallery. For more information visit Scott’s website here or RTIST Gallery’s here.

A house of two halves by Greg Natale

It’s always a delight to share one of Greg Natale’s stunning projects here. They’re guaranteed to look gorgeous, of course, but this is a really interesting one too. It was done in two stages: first the front of the house, and then, a few years later, the back. “The front is more pretty and feminine and about her. The back is more about the husband, a builder.”

The formal living room (above) is Greg’s favourite part of the 1940s red brick house in Sydney’s Five Dock. “It’s just stunningly beautiful. I love the green, orange and yellow together, I always have. It’s very Brady Bunch.”

Exploding colours and cultures define Scott Petrie’s latest paintings

Australian expat artist Scott Petrie has launched his first exhibition of works at the Affordable Art Fair Singapore, which opens to the public later this month. Petrie is already receiving initial interest in his latest collection of paintings on canvas, which celebrate the power of colour and cross-cultural influences apparent is his own world.

I discovered Scott’s work after seeing it used in some of interior designer Greg Natale’s projects. Inspired by his globe-trotting experiences since moving from Sydney to Singapore two years ago, Petrie’s paintings showcase his take on the “awe inspiring regions of Asia into Europe, with a lengthy ‘pit-stop’ in the Middle East.”
