Top 9 picks from the new Linen House summer collection

With the days finally getting warmer (although still as wet as ever down here in Melbourne), it’s time to bring in some brighter tones and botanical prints to the bedroom.

Linen House’s Spring/Summer 2017 ‘Bring the outdoors in’ collection does just that – matching the current trend for indoor plants with a beautiful selection of soft textures, fresh colours and pretty (non-nanna) florals.

To top it all off, they’ve also expanded their range into homewares, including planters, vases, hanging wall art and even crockery. So, without further ado, here are my top picks from the new goodies.

Amiera Quilt Cover & Pillowcase Set

I am an absolute sucker for all things Mediterranean, and this quilted tile pattern with its fabulous bursts of colour hits all the right notes. Like a sunny holiday on the coast of Spain, this is all sorts of wonderful – I want to jump into bed right now and never leave. (From $229.95)

Olympia Quilt Cover & Pillowcase Set

Soft, luxurious, black and white. This screams tribal and oozes Boho with its cotton waffle and tassel trim – an instant addition to my lust list. (From $149.95)

Squiggly Gym Quilt Cover & Pillowcase Set

A shady gum tree with pale pink blossoms highlights the beauty of the Australian bush – just add some eucalyptus oil to your bedside table to complete the look and feel. (From $169.95)

Patti Wall Hanger

An expansion into homewares done well, these hand-made natural rope macramés have delicate long tassels and are oh-so-perfect for adding to your bedroom. ($99.95).

Nimes Linen

Linen; timeless, natural, rustic. Stone washed and soft to touch, these tablecloths, napkins and table runners come in soft shades of blue, rose pink and other neutrals and will suit both casual and formal dining. (From $12.95)

Sela Mug

These artisan-inspired reactive glazed mugs come in blue and pink and will add that earthy uniqueness to your kitchen wares. ($19.95)

Hema Vase

Gold is definitely not old and still very much on trend – add a hint of class and luxe with these glittery vases. (From $19.95)

Kara Planter

This range of textural planters have a raw look about them, and their white on grey patterns will suit anything from industrial to Boho – I already have one gracing my dining table! (From $14.95)

Hippity Hop Quilt Cover

The kids don’t get left out either with this super cute quilt cover. Featuring the softest silver greys and crisp white, this unbelievably adorable design is perfect for boys and girls – all I need now is a kid of my own! (From $69.95)

Whether you’re after Scandi, boho, luxe or a modern twist on the traditional, Linen House has you covered – literally. Head over to their brand new Chapel Street store in Melbourne to see more (or shop online). The new collection will be introduced over the next month.

Art alert: Scott Petrie’s work just got a lot more affordable

Scott Petrie is one of my favourite Australian artists and his work is just beautiful. It has always however, been a little (okay, a lot!) out of my price range. And while I think his originals are worth every dollar of the thousands they go for, I’m so excited that we now have the opportunity to buy signed prints for the first time thanks to his collaboration with Sydney-based The Art and Framing Company (AFC).

Award-winning Scott, a favourite of leading interior designer Greg Natale, who uses his work in many of his projects, is excited to introduce his work to a larger audience. “I have been painting for over 15 years and exhibiting throughout Asia, Australia and America, being hung in art prizes, for which I am very fortunate. I’ll continue to do this and I don’t feel the print range will take away from the one-off paintings or their value. To be able to give people quality at a lower price point is fantastic.”

And the “phenomenal” response just proves he made the right choice: “The response from interior designers and stylists, right through to the retail market has confirmed that having a signed collection at an affordable price range was a great idea. It has exceeded my expectations and I feel totally appreciative that my collection has been embraced,” says Scott. You can now see his prints in the guest rooms at the Greg-Natale revamped Kirkton Park Hotel in the Hunter Valley, NSW.

Scott said he had an instant connection with Marianne Zahos of AFC: “She was very enthusiastic about encouraging Australian artists in our market and promoting their works with integrity and of course quality.”

There are 14 prints to choose from and prices start at $250 unframed. Scott’s personal favourite at the moment is Fragile Earth: “It has a subtle layered feel with depth and calmness. I am extremely influenced
by nature. My studio is near the national park out of Sydney and I spend a lot of time there tracking and exploring the beaches and bushlands.”

You can choose to have your print professionally mounted and framed (in a choice of three finishes) from $450 including the print. All prints are open edition, signed by the artist and printed on 305gsm Hahnemuhle Art Rag Paper.

Sprout and Sparrow: colourful, bold and affordable kids prints

Spending hours scouring shops and the internet to find the perfect piece of art for their little ones, sisters Adi Stevens and Tash Jerrard-Bishop struggled to find something affordable but also a little bit different. So in a brief moment of calm during a play date, they came up with an idea: it was time to make their own!

image1
Starting Sprout and Sparrow in 2014, they design bold, colourful and contemporary children’s wall art, greeting cards and gift tags. Their latest range, in particular, is a result of their love of colour and also the very people who inspired the business, their children. “Our latest prints are inspired by our own children,” explains Adi. “The Paper Plane for example, was inspired by one of our kids who is currently obsessed with paper planes and, if you look closely, you will see his words on the page. Similarly, our The Universe print was inspired by our children’s words.”

With the latest range including illustrative and typographical prints, they have also for the first time expanded their range of children’s decor to include free-standing, scandi style ply wood block prints. We love!

Passionate about creating artworks that bring life into children’s spaces, “We have always been about bold colours even in the midst of the monochrome trend!” all their prints are designed and printed in Melbourne. Printed on high quality paper, each print is hand embossed with the Sprout and Sparrow symbol.

Designing all the prints themselves, their products include large-format (40cm x 50cm) four-print packs, slightly smaller (30cm x 40cm) three-print packs and their unique glow-in-the-dark series — which changes its image from day-to-night. All their prints fit into standard frames and cover everything from playful nursery options to vibrant watercolours and acrylic abstracts.

PTF_Lunar Luxe

“We design all the prints ourselves,” says Daniela. “Each of us has our own distinct handwriting and style, so it brings a nice mix to the themes. We incorporate all the latest colour and design trends into our prints and love combining mediums to produce interesting effects, giving us a point of difference.”

Made from 300 thread count cotton sateen and available in both king and queen sizes, the bedding is sure to add some much needed life to a tired room while being subtle enough to not steal the show.

Checked print teamed with Smokey Green sheets and pillows.
Checked print teamed with Smokey Green sheets and pillows.

For founder Broc Munro that was exactly his aim, adding boldness and style without being too OTT: “I simply started Elson through not being able to find bedding that worked for me. It was always too loud, floral, plain or white and not what I was looking for. The Elson design aesthetic offers stylish, modern design and colour palettes with a focus on simple but chic prints.”

Walls tell a story with Spineless Classics

Tell me these aren’t cool! Yes, that poster (above) has the ENTIRE The Great Gatsby book on it! And The Great Gatsby is so hip right now with Leo’s film about to come out. There are more than 50 titles in the Spineless Classics range though, including Price & Prejudice, Alice in Wonderland and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Both a striking black and white art print that would work with any colourscheme and, up close, an entire book which you can actually read (if you had the time to stand in one place for a while!), it’s certainly a novel (pardon the pun) idea! I do love finding unique and affordable art solutions.

I’m so over Keep Calm and Carry On

This weekend I listed my pink Keep Calm and Carry On print on eBay. A sad day. When I bought it four years ago from Keep Calm Gallery (who incidentally have some AMAZING stuff) in the UK, (because they weren’t selling them here in Australia then) nobody else had one. And then when everyone else started to cotton on, at least mine was different because it was pink. But now the design has been so done I just can’t have it in my home anymore. I’m sick of seeing it!

The same happened to me with tram scroll art. I was an early adopter of that too. Now every second home has one (vintage, screen print or wall decal). Sigh. I still love it though and black and white things are slow to date so it’s staying! For now.

How about you? What trend, which you loved when you first saw it, have you now got sick of seeing? Chevron? Blackboard paint? Cowhide rugs?*

*Disclaimer: I love all those things.
