Latest tabletop wares inspired by desert blooms

With the tablescape trend still going strong, and summer entertaining on the horizon, the latest Ecology collection couldn’t have come sooner. Titled Superbloom, it’s brimming with bright, optimistic colours and abstract desert-inspired florals. Statement serving ware, mouth-blown glass and hand drawn details are complemented by line extensions of the brand’s popular Speckle and Nomad ranges.

“We are turning up the colour this season and embracing the power of the sun and the life it gives. As homemakers, we are creating light filled spaces that support us to flourish. We have opened our doors and moved outside to embrace the world around us, sharing these experiences with family and friends over a meal or just taking the time we need to connect back to nature” said Jessica Steinki, design and product manager at Ecology.

The Belle line-up incorporates bold, sculptural pieces with scalloped, petal-like edges and stem-like legs. We love the gelato-inspired citrus hues which are ideal for summer entertaining.

Mouth-blown statement glassware, Adrift features a delicate petal shape detail in icy blue. Available in tumbler and goblet designs, these unique glass sets come in sets of four and the matching jug is our pick of the series.

A standout of the Superbloom collection, the Samara glassware collection is made from mouth blown glass that features colour pellets within the glass. We love its retro feel.

Arizona draws on desert inspiration with its warm tones and recurring arch motifs. Designer Heather Piez incorporated the arches to represent the rising and setting sun. The classic rim shape and debossed decal gives it a slightly organic profile and tactile feel.

The Arizona range

Part of an existing range, the Nomad series has been updated and is now available in latte and espresso cups. Having sold out last year, the gold-handled Speckle mugs are back too, available in standard or espresso sizes. We think they’d make a fabulous Christmas gift.

Get wrapped up in Country Road’s cosy Winter 2016 collection

We heard that terracotta was on the style radar for winter but Country Road’s latest collection certainly proves it. Shrugging off its dowdy 70’s associations, this execution of terracotta is surprisingly stylish and it looks made to sit alongside the collection’s grey, marble and gold accents too.

As for stoneware, this is a part of the Country Road home range that just keeps getting better and better. We love the two-toned charcoal and white serving collection – the exposed charcoal bisque is a lovely textural counterpoint to the gloss white inner of the range of plates, bowls and mugs.

We’ve got our eye on the pale chalk blue napery too and love the way it perfectly complements the aforementioned terracotta.

Lastly, we’re always excited by the brand’s soft furnishing offering, and this season doesn’t disappoint. Think luxe, knobbly textiles, long-haired tweeds, pile knits and fringing that work back perfectly with the bedding range that features neutral shades of grey, nude and brown with accents of faded teal and petrol blue.

Country Road Home Spring Summer 2014 collections

This hallway mirror represents Country Road’s first foray into small furniture and there’s a rug (a hallway runner) too.

1

The latest new season collection is all kinds of fresh and pastel. Grey, lemon, mint and melon mix with natural textures, spliced fabrics, metallics and wood elements.

Overscaled weaves, woven chunky stripes, houndstooth and shag textures are found across cushions and throws. The oversized Pod cushion in grey jersey is perfect for lounging while mint is the new hue for bed linen, against monochrome grid patterns and herringbone prints or layered with soft pastels in oversized graphics. Throws are spliced with a mix of fabrics, geo prints and micro textures.

A woven monochrome floor runner makes a bold statement. Highlights of black and white reappear on hive-shaped vases and contrast tableware, serving trays and geo printed mugs. Grained marble rolling pins, serving boards and dip bowls add luxe to the table.

Glassware plays with proportion in tubular stemware and balloon-like vases and mugs are updated in grey, yellow and pink matte finishes.

Geometric vases are offered in brushed silver, as is new desk storage. Organic porcelain servingware is clean and fresh, dipped in silky white glaze. Woodgrain textures are the perfect accompaniment in cross-shaped coasters, vertically dipped photo frames, leaning ladder style racks and a large full body mirror. Wood is glazed with pops of bright colour across photo frames, servingware and decorative bowls.

Children’s bed linen packs a punch in soft pastel prints of birds, raindrops and butterflies for girls and graphic pear and cross prints for boys. Embroidered quilts layer with linen along with scatter cushions featuring patchwork pops of printed fabrics and fruit-shaped cushions.

I’m excited. What piece will you be rushing out to buy? First up for me will be the popular Britta cross trivet, now in marble.
