Bold prints: Alex Perry designs new range for Linen House

Seasoned fashion designer and Australia’s Next Top Model judge Alex Perry has collaborated with Linen House again to create a spring/summer 2016/17 bedroom collection that is big on drama. The collection combines bold, graphic prints with monochrome looks and plenty of colour too. As you’d expect from Alex, the overall look is a smart, tailored one.

Inspired by far-flung spots such as the Caribbean and the bazaars of the East, the range has lots of large-scale patterns and is a lovely blend that produces an eclectic, modern mix.

“We all deserve a bedroom that relaxes yet inspires and uplifts us. For spring summer 2016/17, I’ve designed a collection that is airy and light without losing the positive energy of bold pattern. This season is all about creating an escape while keeping a sense of positivity,” says Alex.

‘Aires’ draws on Alex’s Greek heritage with ancient Greek tile work the main inspiration. The design features a smart and timeless palette of black and white and is finished with a classic, tailored flange. Evoking a Caribbean villa, ‘Rumi’ is a large scale chevron print in black, white, emerald and aqua and the graphic printed reverse and classic bordered style make this a standout in the collection. This design also works back really well with a variety of cushions from the range — the pineapple and Moroccan prints in particular.

Featuring an over-sized Suzani print, the ‘Avaya’ quilt cover set is bold and elegant and conjures the captivating, azure blue of the Mediterranean and an exotic bazaar at the same time. An embroidered border and crisp, white tailored edge finishes the look.

Alex Perry tells us about his new collection for Linen House

Sponsored by Linen House

As iconic fashion designer Alex Perry so rightly says: “Who doesn’t love lying in bed during winter and listening to the rain outside?” There’s something so nurturing and restful about spending more time in bed over winter and they were exactly Alex’s thoughts when he collaborated with Linen House for the fourth time to create a vibrant collection for the cooler months.

“For the new collection, we wanted the designs to transport the imagination but also add in that feeling of being cocooned,” explains Alex. “I feel we lead such busy lives that the bedroom shouldn’t be neglected as such an important space to rest not just your body but your mind. There’s nothing better than coming home to an incredible looking bed. It really helps leave your troubles behind.”

With the range featuring six designs, the collection is beautiful and bold, backed up by high quality linen that also feels incredible. “My range is crafted with detailed quality and I love experimenting with texture, colour and confident design,” says Alex. “The cool temperatures of winter have allowed me to explore darker and moodier palettes which I’ve loved, however you’ll still find the signature Alex Perry pop of colour within the collection of bed linen, cushions, sheets and throws.”

Known for being at the forefront of high fashion, designing bedding was an easy jump. “Whatever the occasion, you want good design to transport the individual into a special place and feeling about themselves and the world. That’s the core design philosophy of the Alex Perry fashion brand and we’ve applied the same commitment to the Alex Perry for Linen House homewares range.”

However, Alex does admit the design process had its challenges, having to create bedding that pleases many versus a dress that is just for one woman. “It was a real balancing act to find designs that would be bold, beautiful and appealing to people of all ages and for both men and women. With a beautiful dress it’s all about the wearer’s adventure. Bedrooms though have so many functions and can be someone’s sanctuary, work area, reading spot, a place to watch television, read a book, surf the internet, meditate, the whole family might hang out on a bed or if you live in a studio the bed is the central stage.”

With the collection drawing inspiration from tribal geometrics, animal prints, Suzani textiles and decorative tiles, there is something for everyone. But for Alex, it’s easy to pick a favourite. “I have to confess to being completely addicted to the Opera quilt cover set. It’s all about capturing that Paris apartment moment. It’s truly grand, opulent and perfect for a sensual winter escape. Because it’s black and white, the set is also a very good investment. Your bedroom will be screaming ‘bravo!'”

5 of the best towels for your bathroom

The cicadas are buzzing, the waves are rolling, the sunscreen is flowing… With summer in full swing, it’s time to switch out the dingy towels and refresh ye olde bathroom with some stunning towels that scream summer!

Add a splash of colour with the Melbourne-designed Peacock bath towel from Ninnho ($79). The teal and cobalt against shimmering gold is a perfect reflection of the summer sun glittering against the ocean.

NINNHO_9638_grandeLoom’s Morocco Spot bath towels ($189) are a cheery, colourful blend of soft organic cotton finished with a hand-tied fringe. Albeit on the pricier side, these are handmade in Turkey and dyed using only using botanicals and vegetables.

1Y9A7064Ah Missoni – where do I begin? The Home range ($202) features a subtle zigzag pattern and caters to all tastebuds, from the colour-crazy to those who prefer neutral classics. My personal favourites are the Giacomo and Paul designs.

missoni3As much as I love bright, eye-popping towels, a luxuriously soft towel in a subtle shade of flint grey is equally appealing. The Royal Turkish bath towels from Christy ($68) are inspired by the vintage elegance of the brand’s first towels (made in 1850!) and feature a traditional embroidered logo and curved edging.

For those who prefer the finer things in life, the Alexander cotton jacquard bath towels by Alex Perry ($44.95) provide a regal Versace-effect in the bathroom.
