Aussie homewares brand makes Oprah’s favourites list!

Combining beautiful Australiana inspired packaging with a luxe product has proved a winning formula for Aussie homewares brand Murphy & Daughters, who just scored a place on Oprah’s Favourite Things for 2019! “It’s the kind of win every small business dreams of,” says founder Sarah Murphy.

A decade in business has seen the brand’s product line-up grow from a super-successful range of bon-bon soaps to include other soaps, hand creams, bath salts and candles. And while the products are already stocked in the US, at stores such as Anthropologie and Bloomingdales, inclusion on Oprah’s coveted list is a boon for the small, Melbourne-based, family run business.

As for the specific product that took Oprah’s fancy, it’s the brand’s 1kg tin of bath salts that have scored the publicity jackpot. Available in lime, cucumber, rose, green tea, geranium, violent and frangipani, they are made in Australia using Australian salt and fragrances and come packaged in gorgeous tins designed by Penelope Gibbs, that feature distinctly Australian flora and fauna.

The salt contains trace minerals of beta carotene, potassium, iodine and magnesium that detoxify the skin, boost circulation, remove dead, flaky skin and sooth muscles too.

Sarah is working around the clock, with her daughters Lola and Posy, to fill cans and package orders. “We’ve hired a new warehouse and eight additional staff. Tonnes and tonnes of Australian salt has been purchased and new labelling equipment has been bought. Little sleep is being had!” says Sarah.

The products will be listed for sale on ‘Oprah’s Favourite Things’ online store and will also be featured in the December 2019 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. Most businesses that make it onto this list report a massive boost in sales, so here’s hoping Murphy & Daughters do too!

Embrace winter by winning an Anise bath pack for a long soak!

I’d put money on NONE of you being as big of a bath fan as me, but I’m sure there are some other lovers of a long soak out there, especially in this weather. To celebrate their new bath range, our friends at Anise Skincare are giving two lucky readers the chance to win a pack worth $159 containing bath milk, bath salts and bath foam.

anise bath Set of 3

I’ve tried Anise products myself and they’re gorgeous, as well as looking great in the bathroom with their minimalist amber glass packaging. My favourite is the Cardamom and Vanilla Bath Mill. Add a couple of spoons of the powder to your bath to make it smell just like a chai latte! Yum!

Produced in Australia from the finest, pure ingredients and botanical essences, Anise Botanical Skincare contains no artificial fragrances, parabens, sulphates, petrochemicals, pesticide or herbicide residues, synthetic preservatives, fillers or whiteners. Designed for a modern Australian lifestyle, they aim for their products to be as beautiful in your home as they are on your skin.

To enter, complete the form below by 5pm Sydney time on Friday 24 July 2015.

Gift guide: luxe treats for the bath lover

While nobody loves baths as much as I do, and Aussies are certainly more into their showers, I know there are a few dedicated tub fans out there and, perhaps a little selfishly, I’ve pulled together a few gift ideas for them! I’m a big believer in turning your bathroom into a little home sanctuary and that can be achieved with some clever styling and a few luxury products.

Clockwise from top left:

  • I’m a massive Jo Malone fan and their fragrances aren’t cheap. But if you’d like to give someone a little everyday luxe at an affordable price point, treat them to a soap for $30. My favourite’s Pomegranate Noir. I love using my soap every day and it’s lasting me ages.
  • I need one of these bath caddies in my life for my book, candle and cuppa while enjoying a soak! This one’s made of cedar which is amazingly resilient. It resists mould and mildew with no need for oiling or staining and it releases a lovely smell when wet. At $79, I think it’s great value.
  • If you want to impress someone with bath/shower gel that looks amazing left out on the side (perhaps in the cedar bath caddy?) but also smells amazing and does the job, you can’t go past Aesop. Body cleanser from $25 in various fragrances.

You still have plenty of time to shop online, so what are you waiting for?! If you have a very special bath lover in your life, why not buy them all four?! (If you’re reading, Damian…)
