Project 82’s annual sofa sale, for locally made, stylish pieces

Project 82’s annual sofa sale starts this Saturday 25 January until 28 February.

The annual sofa sale is a chance for anyone on the hunt for a beautifully designed, locally made piece to snap up something special at a fraction of the original price.

The Sofa Maker lets you design your dream lounge online

A new concept in custom-made furniture, The Sofa Maker, lets you create your sofa online, cutting out the middleman and giving you direct access to the craftsmen who make it.

We formed the project around a really simple idea,” says Shelley Mason, co-founder of The Sofa Maker and owner of Sydney interior design store Project 82.

What if we could create a website that cuts out the middlemen – giving customers maximum input into the design process and direct access to the craftsmen who build their sofa? Would scrapping the showroom, cutting transportation costs and providing a purely online product make it possible to offer customisable, handcrafted sofas at an amazing price?”

It turns out the answer is yes. You simply visit The Sofa Maker, create your sofa and their craftsmen will build it to order. The website lets you choose every aspect of your sofa from the style to the size, fabric and wood stain, where applicable.

Great sofas & interior design at Project 82

(L-R) Amanda Pocock, Shelley Mason and Emily Mayne

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Project 82 in Surry Hills. It’s in Fitzroy Street. Number 82, would you believe it?

I first met founder and interior designer Shelley Mason at a trade fair last year and loved her range. It seems business has come along in leaps and bounds since then with a healthy flow of customers, both trade and retail. I think one of the great things about the team is they’re as comfortable doing a large scale commercial fitout as somebody’s apartment (they’ll happily come round and help you) and their interior design service (the price of which can be credited towards any purchases) is making interior style accessible.

The launch of The Home, Cleo photoshoot and a trip to Project 82

Wow, yesterday was a big one and I have the blisters to prove it. In the morning I visited Project 82 in Surry Hills, which is about to turn two! More on this later in the week but I thoroughly recommend a visit. They’re in Fitzroy Street (number 82, would you believe it?!). Then at lunchtime I was off to ACP in Park Street for a photoshoot for Cleo magazine. My story about how I took blogging full-time will be in the January issue (out in December). I had my hair and makeup done and it was lots of fun. Everyone was lovely and it wasn’t half as painful as I thought it would be. After all, I HATE having my photo taken! Then in the evening I stopped by the launch party for The Home (which used to be called Dalani) where it was great to catch up with Mr Jason Grant and hear all about his book, which is almost finished and out next year. THEN I met my girlfriends for dinner. PHEW. Today I’m just meeting my accountant…
