Ziporah towels: art for your bathroom

For a very long time there’s only been one clear choice for colourful and patterned bathroom towels and that’s Missoni! Now the 3 girls behind Ziporah are trying to change all that with a new Aussie brand.

We decided we would create towels together after recognising a gap in the market for colour, luxury and affordability. After frustrating shopping trips, visits to a trade fair here and there, industry research and loads of questions, things just naturally brought us together,” said their designer, Antoinette Murray.

We decided Ziporah would create unique, artisan designed towels to “make over” a bathroom space, like a beautiful rug can do for a living room or cushions can do for a neutral sofa. We also agreed we would not compromise on quality.”

While it’s always wise to play it quite safe with your palette and patterns in an expensive bathroom renovation, I’m a big advocate of using towels, accessories and fancy toiletries to ensure your bathroom has some personality.

Alongside Antoinette, Angela Bellenger and Carla Williams make up the Ziporah trio. Their 100% cotton towels are designed in Melbourne and manufactured in Europe. Hand towels are $35 and bath sheets $129.

Regular readers will know I am a serious bath lover so a good towel is an essential in my world and if they look this good, even better. I have a habit of sitting around wrapped in a big towel all day after my morning shower (perks of working from home, I say) and my husband says I’d wear towels rather than clothes all the time given half a chance. I can’t really argue!

The Ziporah (zipporah means bird in Hebrew) designer towel collection is based upon its namesake. “We loved the word Ziporah and the bird connection meant the entire first collection was designed with these beautiful creatures in mind. Emperor was the very first design created and all the other design stories took their cue from this first towel.

The next stage was production and this involved many meetings and often frustrating conversations with manufacturers. We started to hear the same story over and over telling us what we wanted to do was impossible.” But Angela and Carla persevered with production and almost 2 years later, their gorgeous towels are finally here and for sale!

The collection is very patterned and colourful but their signature black and white design, reflecting their logo, is a timeless classic.

I think these towels look great and am delighted to see a bit more variety in the patterned towel market!

Ziporah towels are available online at www.ziporah.com.au. Melbourne stockists include The Supercool, Southwood and Curious Grace. They’re available in Sydney at The Cool Hunter Summer Lovers Store.

These look fantastic though I’m really hoping they will be available in a Bath Towel size not just Sheet as Sheets are far too big for little ones and I’m not one for themed or Disney like kiddy towels ! Towels allow more on the rails & dry quicker as well. Fingers crossed a matching Foot Mat joins the range as matching blacks can be a painful process. I will keep popping back to the website to see if the stock updates. Well done girls they look fantastic ! Thanks Jen

Looks like they’ve shut up shop 🙁 Instagram account closed, website gone and so has Facebook. Such a shame, they arrived with such a bang and enthuasium but as quickly as they arrived they’ve gone bust.
