Home Beautiful magazine has launched a beautiful range of homewares available exclusively at MyHouse and HOUSE – Bed & Bath. It follows their recent gorgeous collaboration with design expert Neale Whitaker and we love it!

Now you can bring a touch of Home Beautiful’s design and décor know-how to your home with a selection of sumptuously soft bedding, luxurious bath towels and stylish decor pieces, all at an affordable introductory price. And one lucky Interiors Addict reader can even win $1,000 worth of the Home Beautiful goodies to make over their bedroom and bathroom. There’ll probably be enough left over for some sofa cushions and a candle too!

“At Home Beautiful we’ve been celebrating and sharing inspiring interiors for many years. So it was a natural next step to launch our own homewares range,” says editor in chief Elle Lovelock. “The range is everything we love about homewares. It’s simplicity at its finest with designs that are elegantly understated and easy to style to create a beautiful sanctuary at home.”

We agree that the range will be so easy to incorporate into many different homes, lending itself to layering with existing pieces or others from within the range. Struggling to choose the perfect cushion combo for your bed (we know it’s really tricky!)? Why not replicate one of the above images?! It’s not cheating, it’s being stylist-inspired!

The range has pure cotton quilt cover sets in in so many different (but all beautifully subtle and easy to work with) designs, European pillowcases, coverlets (we love swapping our quilt for one of these in the warmer months), sheeting, cushions, throws, towels, candles and more.

Colours include calming hues of mist and petal, soft greys, crisp whites and uplifting blues, complemented by simple and elegant patterns and textures.

What’s more, everything’s at a serious discount of up to 50% off for a limited time so don’t wait too long to grab your favourites!

We’ll take one of everything!

Canningvale: over four decades of family business

The Canningvale story began in 1977 when Italian weaver Giovanni Prainito immigrated to Australia with a variety of looms in tow, and a desire to produce a quality product. But what began as a small operation (with just a small terry jacquard weaving mill) has since become an Australian success story that has seen the brand sell over one million towels and more than 600,000 sheet sets – quite the achievement for a small family-owned business run out of Melbourne!

The Canningvale factory in 1977 - its first year of business.
The Canningvale factory in 1977 – its first year of business.

“After 41 years and multiple generations of our family working in this business, we have an instinct for beautiful, purposeful, lasting products. Your mattresses, bedding, towels and furniture should be part of your sanctuary, your daily rituals – we want these moments to be enjoyable and lasting,” says Canningvale chairman (and Giovanni’s son) Frank Prainito of the brand that has evolved well beyond anything the family ever expected.

From the early days, the brand went on to produce bedding and towels for high-end brands including Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Sheridan and Country Road, before becoming the successful online homewares and furniture purveyor it is today.

“We’re driven by integrity in product and customer service, but it is our capacity for technical innovation and unparalleled fibre knowledge, coupled with the elegant simplicity of our designs’ textures and muted tones that create products that stand the test of time and changing tastes,” says Frank whose son Jordan Prainito took over as the managing director of the company in 2016. “We are an Italian/Australian family. Our rich family history, tradition and culture are northern Italian, but our love of life, the outdoors and nature is quintessentially Australian,” says Jordan.

“We’re obsessed with problem-solving and developing unique product solutions using natural materials to create pieces our customers will love. It is my father’s life’s work and he is still here, guiding us like a living library,” says Jordan.

“An example of our technical solutions is that, whilst towels are produced to look as fluffy as possible for the lowest cost, ours are woven to a balanced technical formula which wicks moisture away from the surface pile. When you use a Canningvale towel, you don’t have to look for a dry area to keep drying yourself,” says Jordan of the company’s commitment to producing products that endure.

“Fast fashion, with its financial and environmental consequences is anathema to us. At Canningvale we are proud to be a ‘slow product’ brand. We want our customers to know that when they bring a Canningvale product into their homes it will be an ethical purchase and stand the test of time,” says Jordan.

Everything’s on sale at Designers Guild: my top picks

Sponsored by Designers Guild

You know what they say about buying well and buying once? That’s why I always prefer, if possible, to buy great quality brands on sale rather than buy a lot of cheaper full price stuff which will show its cheapness and disposability in a few months’ time. So the good news is that Designers Guild, which I’d call a classic investment homewares brand, is currently on sale. ALL OF IT!

If you’d always wanted some bed linen, cushions, towels or other textiles from Tricia Guild’s iconic British (I’m not biased!) brand, there’s currently 25% off across the entire Australian online store. There’s a lot to choose from though, so I’ve tried to make it easier for you with a few of my sale highlights to get you inspired.

I’m crushing hard on the Hand Painted Pink Stripe table linen. I find I always have more dinner parties this chilly time of year and it’s nice to make a special effort. This also comes in less feminine blue and green colourways but you know me and pink! Just look at the perfect light crumple of the organic linen! From $52.50.

If you prefer plain linen, these mint Lario placements and napkins come in nine different colours. From $45 for four.

Speaking of pink and crumped (and my aversion to ironing!), check out this Biella linen in Peony and Camellia. I love how it’s reversible.  I’m a plain bed linen kind of girl but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to greys or white. This linen also comes in shades of green, blue, grey, red, purple and of course, white.

I have a cushion from this range and the linen is thick and gorgeous. From $37.50.

Next up, and still in the bedroom, I’m coveting this silk Chenevard silver and slate quilt. A quilt is a great investment as you can use it on its own in the hotter months and as an extra, good-looking layer on the bed in winter. This also comes in other colours and Designer’s Guild have many beautiful quilts to peruse.

Onto some more typically Designer’s Guild looks, there’ll be no denying where this statement Tulipa Stellata Fuchsia cushion ($157.50) or moodier floral Delft Flower Noir rug ($4260) were from!

Moving onto the Moselle Bath Robe, I personally always find it really hard to find a robe which is neither too skimpy or too big and fluffy. Waffle is the answer, and this one’s the perfect length and comes in loads of colours. I think it would be $176.25 well spent when you consider you’d  probably wear it every day. In 100% linen this will add a fun pop of colour to your bathroom too.

Even if you don’t need anything yourself, this is a great time to buy gifts for loved ones at a bargain price!

The sale won’t last forever so make sure you check it out now!

Canvas+Sasson new range: Jaipur meets Cuba meets Palm Springs!

Canvas+Sasson began as a lot of small businesses do, from home, with the juggle of kids, family and boxes and boxes of cushions. But it wasn’t long until the business began to grow, moving into its own warehouse and studio, much to the relief of founder Sarah Quin (and her husband!).

Now, a decade later, Canvas+Sasson has cemented itself as a homewares and furniture powerhouse, one that embraces the classical to the bohemian and everything in between. Launching two collections a year, their latest offering includes cushions in the most perfect palette of blush pink, gold and tangerine orange; a line of summery Rattan furniture – complete with day bed and 70’s inspired bar cart and towels hand block printed and tasseled.

With a strong global influence, the collection is quite eclectic – think Jaipur meets Cuba meets Palm Springs… with a dash of 70’s! So it comes as no surprise that travel is a huge inspiration for Sarah and Canvas+Sasson’s resident designer Jemma Bell. “We travel a lot and are constantly picking up ideas from different cultures,” explains Jemma. “I’m based in India and as you can imagine it provides a huge well of inspiration. We’re always seeing things that can be made to suit a more Australian taste. South America is another amazing place for colour inspiration and Mykonos for a more European influence that is still full of fun, colour and texture.”

The Canvas+Sasson team

The wares also give a nod to fashion, with Tory Burch, India Hicks and Aerin Lauder among the designers Canvas+Sasson most admire. “Seeing bold and bright prints in fashion and tailoring or paring back those looks for homewares is a big starting point for our collections.”

While the design process varies from collection to collection, one thing that remains the same is the focus on handmade goods. “Many of our textiles are hand block printed, a really beautiful technique found in Rajasthan where wooden blocks are stamped across the fabric and layered in various hues to create a pattern,” says Jemma. “We also use a lot of woven textures in our textiles and love exploring hand embellished crafts such as embroidery, crochet and beading.”

As a wholesaler unfortunately you can’t just pop online to buy, but luckily Canvas+Sasson has a huge list of stockists, so no doubt you will find a place near you.

Blockhead Carlene Duffy’s 5 tips for updating your bathroom

By Carlene Duffy

With so many home renovation shows on television and with ready access to design imagery by way of blogs, Instagram and Pinterest, there’s little doubt your head is swimming with information and ideas.

Cedar&Suede_121a
Carlene

So, to make it easier for you, here are my five top tips for injecting some luxe to your bathroom this summer.

1. Marble

CarleneDuffy_Marble

This year has been all about marble, and your bathroom should be no exception. Marble is an age-old material that adds an element of elegance and style to your interior. Its timelessness as a material also means it is set to have longevity as a design trend.

Whether it’s rectangular floor to ceiling marble tiles, or mosaic marble feature tiles, your bathroom will exude instant luxury. But if changing up the tiles isn’t an option, opt for a smaller scale marble feature, such as a trinket bowl, soap dish or pendant light.

2. Matte black and white tapware

CarleneDuffy_Matt Tapwear

While white on white bathrooms are a safe no-fail design choice, which is unlikely to date, recently we have seen a big shift in bathroom colour palettes. We are seeing more bold choices such as black, navy and grey tones, creating drama, richness and a bit of sass.

If you’re bold enough and looking for an alternative to traditional chrome or stainless steel tapware, add a spunky matte black or matte white mixer, basin or vanity to create a sophisticated but edgy bathroom.

3. Light it up

CarleneDuffy_Light'

While down lights are a popular and practical way to light up any space, adding varying types of lighting is the ideal way to create mood, interest and ambience. This is especially true in bathrooms. For me, bathing or showering is not just about getting clean but about unwinding from the day. You should have the option here to switch off the down lights and flick on a staggered cluster of pendants hanging over one side of your vanity or a couple of wall lights hanging either side of your mirror.

You may also include an LED strip in your shower nook and under your vanity, which combined with your pendants or wall lights, will create the perfect type of light for shower/bath time. Decorative lights such as pendants are also effective at adding another dimension to your bathroom and breaking up all the hard surfaces.

4. Bright coloured towels

CarleneDuffy_Towels

Creating a fresh look in your bathroom doesn’t have to break the bank. You can achieve a new look by making small changes like displaying a new set of good quality, coloured towels. Personally, I only use dri.glo bath towels, which are made with premium Australian cotton, which means higher absorbency and a softer touch, and come in a huge range of colours.

5. Add a little greenery

CarleneDuffy_Greenery

With backyards becoming smaller and in many cases, non-existent, we are seeing indoor plants becoming increasingly popular. Greenery is an essential ingredient to the success of any interior space, including the bathroom. It is the final touch that makes a space feel complete. Whether you choose to create a high-impact green wall, place single potted plants on the vanity, or hang a group of ferns from the ceiling, plants are a simple and inexpensive way to add colour, life and vitality to your bathroom.

Country Road’s laid-back High Summer collection

With a focus on laid-back resort styling, outdoor living and relaxed moments centred on family and friends, High Summer 2015 sets the tone for the upcoming season.

150904_CR_summer114FINISHED

Designed with modern simplicity in mind, featuring premium timber, porcelain, brass, wool, linen and handmade glass in a muted palette, styling is kept informal to create a relaxed look made for the beach season.

150904_CR_summer342finished

Add a pop of colour with this season’s stand out colour of muted, dusty pink. When paired with neutrals, marble and wood it adds a refreshing update for the seasonal change.

150904_CR_summer238finished

Linen bedding offers a lived-in luxury with the naturally washed-back hues and texture bringing the mood of far-flung destinations into the home. Cushions, throws and napery are heavy on monochrome with print applied graphically in indigo, pale grey, soft pink and touches of magenta.

150904_CR_summer072FINISHED

Geometric trivets, spherical vessels and loop vases in marble add sculptural moments throughout the home. And Christmas is covered with the new Scandinavian style jewellery box, beach towels in pastel retro shades, votive sets, photo frames and celebratory glassware all indispensable for gifting and entertaining.

Sunday Minx towels: European quality with Aussie style

Blending European quality and refined craftsmanship with the raw colours and fresh modern designs of the Australian lifestyle, Sunday Minx’s debut collection of deluxe bath towels are bold but elegant.

SM150531-1

Created by Sydney-based Brooke Rudzis, the brand is founded on the philosophy that ‘home is where the good life begins’, with the brand aiming to create beautiful products that enrich daily living. “My vision was to create products with superior quality and playful designs, yet still maintaining an unpretentious approach,” explains Brooke. “I want Sunday Minx products to be aspirational yet also attainable.”

SM150531-20

With the Spring Summer 2015/16 Collection consisting of four large bath towels and three hand towels, the designs incorporate tonal greys and whites juxtaposed against splashes of tangerine, mint and dramatic monochrome. Inspired by the post-modernist designs of the Italian-based The Memphis Movement from the early 1980s — known for challenging perceptions of conventional design — the trend is clearly reflected through the inaugural collection. “Through the use of colour and pattern I tried to encapsulate the Memphis trend with geometric shapes, powerful bright hues and a willingness to challenge traditional bath towel design.”

SM150531-19
With quality paramount, the towels are handcrafted using the finest 100% Turkish cotton, renowned for its world-class quality, softness (you won’t feel anything quite like it!) and absorbency, with the cotton fibres possessing a unique ability to dry very quickly.

Così: super-sized, colourful bath towels for stylish bambini

The by-product of a lawyer, an industrial chemist turned marketing manager and four children under five (eek!), new brand Così have created a range of 100% cotton, delightfully soft and irresistible to touch bath towels for children.

Cosi_HR_0005_1024x1024

Designed by Melbourne-based Italian sisters Tina and Jo Randello, each towel is full-sized despite being for little ones. “Our research with children and parents told us size really does matter with towels,” explains Tina. “They have to be large enough to cocoon the smallest baby to the biggest kid. That’s why we call our Così towels children’s bath sheets.” And if they’re full-sized they’re perfect for adults too… just saying!

COSI 2

Fresh and contemporary, all four designs boast an exotic colour scheme in shades that reflect what kids love, but also tap into mum’s sense of style. ‘The collection captures an empowering richness and opulence that is fun for children of all ages and will give instant glamour to an adult’s bathroom,’ says Jo. “You won’t be blamed for wanting to drape your Così towel over the back of your kid’s bedroom door or in the bathroom all day.”

Screen Shot 2015-06-29 at 2.44.06 pm

Setting the benchmark for intelligent design that will stand the test of time, the towels are made from 500gsm pure cotton and feature a pattered side in sheered velour and a block grey side in absorbent looped terry. All towels are machine washable and have been subject to a rigorous testing regime before being released.

Cosi_HR_0001_1024x1024

Così towels can now be pre-ordered online for a September delivery and will also be exhibited at Life Instyle, Melbourne next month.

Mixing their American east coast heritage with the laid-back mood of California, the Spring/Summer GANT Home range is full of vibrant colours and soft materials.

Inspired by their signature shirting patterns (it cannot be forgotten that GANT’s global success began with the one humble shirt), they have updated their patterns like madras, tattersall and tie prints into relaxed Pacific shades. Partnering this with vibrant palms and bright pastels in 340-thread-count and GANT Home have created a bedroom of pure luxury with a quintessentially cool LA vibe.

Into the bathroom and their accessories are also colourful and elegant. Their towels feature a rainbow palette of apricot, yellow, green and blue and have been left untwisted for an extra soft finish; and their soft classic robes in sorbet shades and elegant soaps with scents reminiscent of the wild Pacific, offer that holiday feeling without having to leave the comfort of your home.

The GANT Home range also features beautiful linen cushions that have a subtle and elegant sheen. In soft pastels and bright sorbet hues they’re made to elevate sofas all season long. Perfect for our current dreary days!

GANT Home’s Spring/Summer range will be in stores the first week of July. Find your nearest store.

With artist and co-owner Antoinette Ferwerda designing all the towels herself, her artistic practice has long drawn inspiration from nature, colour and pattern. Predominantly working in acrylic, paint, ink, and collage, in 2012, she added towels to her portfolio. With each Ninnho towel being designed with the same exquisite attention to detail as her artworks, each is a true piece of art.
