Sparkk launch online cushion shop

No strangers to the textile world, Sydney’s Sparkk have just begun an exciting new adventure.

Known for designing and digitally printing textiles and wallpaper for both the trade and the public, their latest venture Sparkk Shop, is a retail website  where they sell their designs as ready-made cushions. Curated from their best-selling textiles and the designs that they themselves love the most, all of the designs for Sparkk Shop’s first collection come from their design library. Yet with hundreds of patterns and colours on offer, creating an appropriate sized collection was no easy feat.

“I had many an agonising hour trying to whittle down the hundreds of our favourites,” says studio manager Olivia Rysenbry. “I suppose that is a testament to how much we love our designs! We will be adding cushions to the site every few months, focusing on new trends and new design collections that Sparkk releases, so I suppose we will go through this process a lot more!”

Owned by the Rysenbry family, they have been well known figures in the textiles industry for over 60 years. Recognised for their focus on sustainability, they believe that the existing model of the textiles industry is dated and should be discontinued.

“In a world that is increasingly conscious of the impact we have on our environment, the concept of purchasing and milling thousands of metres of fabric for every collection you do and having it sit on shelves in warehouses or worse thrown out, doesn’t sit well,” explains Olivia. “From its inception, Sparkk’s aim has always been to operate sustainably wherever possible. Offering one-metre minimums and printing each order on demand means we have no wastage and our offcuts are recycled.”

While the Spark Shop sells only cushions for now, plans are already in motion for expanding into a variety of different homewares.“The beauty of digital printing is that there are so many options available,” says Olivia. “Being able to print on demand means we can tinker and trial without having to commit to stocking mass quantities of products we are unsure will sell. Personally, I am obsessed with the prospect of tiles! How incredible would Sparkk designs look on bathroom walls?”

True that.

Deco Glamour collection is very Great Gatbsy

I’ve always loved all things Art Deco but the imminent release of THAT Great Gatsby movie (have you seen the trailers? It looks magnificent in every way!) has me loving it even more. And no doubt we’ll see a resurgence of all things Art Deco in fashion and homewares very soon.

Grace Garrett Deco Glamour wallpaper blue

The latest Grace Garrett Deco Glamour collection at Emily Zizz is positively swoon-worthy! This is just a small selection from the huge range of patterns and colourways available in wallpaper, fabric, cushions and lampshades, and, eventually, rugs. Geometric shapes and patterns are already being seen everywhere in interiors this year, so the Art Deco look fits very nicely. Maybe it’s time to bring back symmetry? Are you a fan of these patterns?

Styling tip 4: Introduce pattern and texture

Now that you’ve built a strong foundation by introducing aspects of your personal style, story and colour preferences to your home, you can continue to build upon this by adding even further depth and complexity to the space. Patterns and texture play a huge part in impacting your overall look and feel and they’re some one of the final steps towards achieving your desired ambiance.

Tip

Soft furnishing fabrics are used to make drapes, cushions, tablecloths, lampshades and bed linen, as well as to upholster furniture. They play an integral part in tying all of your elements together and are a simple way to add a personal yet finished look to your room. Other products, of a more striking nature, include tiles, vinyl wallpapers and 3D wall panels. Texture – a surface’s tactile quality – creates mood. For example, smooth and shiny textures reflect light and create bright, stimulating environments. Coarse and matte textures absorb light and create warm, relaxing environments. Create contrast where needed!

Task

Create ambiance!

  • Pick a room that needs work in the ambience department – preferably a bedroom or spare room that has a larger space with which to work

  • Choose between new curtains or cushions for this room keeping the information in my tip above in the back of your mind

  • CURTAINS: Visit some fabric houses in your area and give your final choice to a curtain maker or visit their showroom and pick from a catalogue

  • CUSHIONS: visit a home decorations store and pick out a variety of new cushions or throws to refresh the bigger pieces in your room.

The result? Added layers that assist in refreshing the overall ambience of your home.

We’re bringing you one interior styling tip a day for 10 days from Martina Hrubes of Ruby In Design.

I’m obsessed with beautiful fabric at the moment and it doesn’t get much more beautiful

I’m obsessed with beautiful fabric at the moment and it doesn’t get much more beautiful than eighth generation Italian fabric house Busatti. It’s favoured by style icons such as Valentino, Miuccia Prada and Giorgio Armani and featured in the classic style compendium 101 Things to Buy Before You Die alongside Cartier, Bulgari, Hermes and Manolo Blahnik. Busatti has just opened a third Australian store in North Fremantle, Perth and there are already stores in Sydney’s Double Bay and Melbourne’s South Yarra. A new online store will follow in the near future.
