iB Rubinetterie’s fabulous MARMO marble bathroom collection

A hit at Milan’s recent Salone Internazionale del Bagno, the MARMO collection by celebrated Italian design house iB Rubinetterie combines marble with chrome, white, black, gold, brushed nickel and rose gold to produce a super chic range of bathroom accessories that have modern classic written all over them.

Basin mixer

With 72 products in the series ranging from basin and shower mixers to bathroom accessories, the geometric shapes are softened by the marble which is unique to every piece – the different veins ensure no two pieces are the same. Available in white Carrara and black Marquina, we love the soap dishes in particular and their smooth, masculine lines.

Designed by Antonio Gardoni and Federico Castelli, the range is proudly Italian made. “We love our country, we love its ancient and industrial history, we are the result of all this. We respect our origins and we cannot imagine manufacturing outside Italy. The history of our country, the culture of design that we luckly live and breathe every day dictates our standards and marks our steps,” says Antonio.

The free standing, floor mounted bath mixer is very cool too and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Create Michelin star pasta with stylish copper machines

We still have a crush on copper! This industrial luxe finish, combining the commercial vibe of metal with a tactile warmth, knows no bounds. We’re loving it in everything from light fittings and side tables to taps and tableware – and now it’s found its way into the culinary heart of the home – the kitchen.

2724 Copper lifestyle

Marcato are the Italian geniuses behind the copper pasta and biscuit making machines. Their Atlas 150 pasta machine ($229.95) is made from food-grade aluminium alloy (ensuring no heavy metals come into contact with the fresh pasta) in a manufacturing plant powered by 100 per cent renewable energy – and it carries a 10 year warranty.

2774 Copper Ravioli Tablet lifestyle

Features include 10 thickness levels for rolling the pasta, three pasta shapes (lasagne, fettucine and tagliolini), smooth action and an extremely stable benchtop clamp, as well as accessories such as a copper ravioli tray and rolling pin ($149.95).

2794 Copper Biscuitpress

For all the biscuit lovers out there, there’s the Biscuit press ($119.95): an ergonomically shaped cylinder that can create 20 different shapes in two sizes – small and large. Simply place the biscuit dough in the canister, slide in one of the biscuit die plates and press down on the lever, directly onto the baking tray (no baking paper required). One full cylinder of dough will produce 20-25 large biscuits and 34-40 small. Excuse me while I clean up my drool.

These copper beauties are available exclusively at David Jones.

Smeg launch seriously stylish stand mixer, toaster, kettle and blender in Milan

If there’s one thing Smeg’s known for it’s iconic and stylish design and their latest small domestic appliances, launched in Milan this week, do not disappoint.

On the one hand, it’s entry level Smeg for those of you who have been lusting after their retro FAB fridge for years but not quite able to justify the price tag. Or you may be lucky enough to already own a Smeg fridge or dishwasher (jealous!) and looking to add a complemetary toaster and kettle! You’ll struggle to find more stylish gadgets for your bench top and the big plus is they all come in ALL OF THE COLOURS!

SMF01CREU

Together with Matteo Bazzicalupo and Raffaella Mangiarotti of deepdesign, Smeg has delved into the not too distant past to come up with this 1950s style collection. Similar to the adored FAB28 fridge, the collaboration has created much more than simple electrical appliances.

Toaster_1_CR

Smeg say they are for those who love to surround themselves with strong aesthetics without compromising high quality and performance. From the 2×2 and 2×4 slice toasters, to the standard or variable temperature kettles, to the blender and stand mixer, Smeg small domestic appliances are tools that ensure excellent performance in all stages of food preparation, and have powerful personalities to match.

I was lucky enough to be at their world premiere at the Dolce & Gabanna Gold resaurant in Milan as part of design week. They are the result of intensive research and Smeg’s continuing ability to express excellence in “Made in Italy” design. If, like me, you want your gadgets to look as they function, look no further.

I also enjoyed tours of two of Smeg’s factories in Guastalla this week. I’ll share more with you about that soon.

The products will be available in Australia later this year. Find out more at Smeg Australia.
