Target Home continues to impress with luxe for less

Creating a luxe look for less seems to be getting easier every season, particularly when stores like Target keep delivering designer-look homewares without the price tag to match. The latest range of affordable homewares from Target Home draws on one of the strongest interior trends of the past year – texture – and it’s quite a treat.

Textured cushions
Texture explosion: I’m seriously crushing on those cushions

“We are delighted to introduce our latest homewares range – helping to bring family together and focus on the importance of a relaxed lifestyle,” says Target’s head of design for hardgoods, Emma Duxbury-Thompson of the range of bedroom, kitchen, living and bathroom wares.

Inspired by the Australian landscape (native botanical motifs feature), artisanal textured finishes abound (think wicker and woven materials) for a rustic, handmade feel. “It’s a cosy collection that will have Australians feeling right at home and with on-trend designs and quality pieces for every room, it’s now even easier – and more affordable – to create a fabulously fashionable look this season,” says Emma.

Quilt
The Stella cotton seersucker quilt cover set, $49 (queen), features native botanicals and is a collection highlight

Amidst all the texture is a delicate, feminine colour palette featuring lilac, dusty pink and cream. Pops of charcoal, gold detailing and delicate trims round out the mix. I’ve already got my eye on the metallic bee pictured below and at $8 how could you go wrong! It’s perfect for a styled bookshelf vignette.

At $8, that brass bee is a bargain!

Target’s winter home collection: Amy’s top picks

From feathers to faux fur throws, macrame woven cushions, glazed dinnerware and Moroccan inspired pieces, Target‘s winter home collection ‘Winterful’ is full of cosy textures and earthy tones designed for cocooning. The collection also cements Target’s position as the sophisticated older sister to Kmart‘s fast fashion homewares and the prices are extremely competitive too.

“Winterful flows on beautifully from our previous collection, with a more natural and rich palette for high winter. There are so many layers to this collection and I love how it allows our customer to build a unique style and tailor individual looks for their home,” says Target’s head of hard goods design, Emma Duxbury-Thompson.

Zinnia quilt cover set: Pink and painterly, what’s not to love about this design? With a plain reverse for when you’re not feeling so bold, this is a steal at $29 (queen).

Target Zinna quilt cover

Nomadic dinnerware: A perfect blend of bohemia and Scandi style, this range of bowls, plates and platters is a perfect example of luxe for less. With prices starting at just $2, I don’t expect these pieces to last long.

Assorted cushions: From chunky knits to faux fur and tufted designs, Target’s latest cushions are all about texture. I’m particularly taken with the Tufted Nomad Cushion. $20.

Mercury glass hurricane: Jen and I struggle to look past anything gold and the speckles make this piece that little bit different. $10.

Fraser frames: Available in natural, white and black, it’s the stylish mat boards that take these up a notch. $4 (small) and $8 (large).

Smoke glass canisters: With pantry organisation all the rage, these are the perfect complement. $5 (small) and $7 (large).

What I’m coveting from Target’s luxe look February homewares

Last week I attended the launch of Target’s new Touch of Luxe homewares collection and it was really great to get a chance to speak to the people behind the product, learn more about their in-house design team and understand just how much thought goes into offering the latest trends to their customer. Let’s just say there’s a lot more to it than you or I would ever think!

With a palette of rich colours and soft textures, without the premium price tag, everyone can indulge in a little luxury. Some of the new pieces are so amazing for the money, I wanted to take you through my favourites.

If you buy one thing from this new touch of luxe collection, make it the reactive glaze dinnerware. It’s absolutely gorgeous; the handcrafted look yet dishwasher and microwave safe. And at $4 per piece (dinner plates, side plates, bowls and mugs) it is amazing value and your guests will surely think it cost so much more. Stunning! I love that you buy it as separates so you can get exactly the pieces that work for your family. This is sure to sell out fast, so do not hang around! You could mix and match it with the new matte stoneware dinner sets (12 pieces for $29 and matching mugs for $2 each) which come in pink and grey.

I love a big mug and these are just perfect. Also coming in pink, they’re just $4 too.

Next up, I’m coveting the pink cut glass accessories to add a feminine touch to your bathroom. Let’s forget for now that my own bathroom is a dated and unrenovated beige number with a turquoise bath! From $5.

There’s loads of new bedding, from dark florals to crushed velvet and this Topaz quilt cover set (from $29) with a matching framed print and cushion available if matchy-matchy is your thing! I think these would be great in a little girl’s room.

There are more plain options too, perfect for layering as the weather gets colder, and adding some cushions from their new range.

The design team have put a lot of work into adding luxury trims and details, quality fabrics and a generous 45cm size, so they offer great value for money. From $15 to $20. The roundie with the pleated edges and the quilted velvet ones are my faves. Did I mention I still love velvet?

Then there’s this $29 teal velvet ottoman, handy as a foot stool, extra seat or even bedside.

Target’s Head of Hardgoods Design, Emma Duxbury-Thompson says: “This collection is a celebration of luxury, colour and texture, and these elements resonate throughout the entire range of products creating a beautiful handwriting across homewares. I’m proud to say that this collection will stand up against the best of the best – but most importantly without the luxury price tag.”

The new February homewares collection is in stores nationally and online now.

Megan Gale’s new homewares for Target!

2015 has been a busy year for Megan Gale. From her work as a swimwear designer for Isola and a brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris to an actor in the blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road and her “best and most rewarding job” of being a mum; you would think Megan would have little time for anything else. But that’s not the case!

MG FOR TARGET_CAMPAIGN IMAGE_PARIS

Instead she is branching out into a completely new field, launching the MG Australia homewares collection in collaboration with Target. “I have always loved homewares and loved shopping for furniture, artwork and key pieces for the home,” explains Megan. “Creating a collection like this was something I’d always relished the opportunity to do, but I knew it had to be right timing wise. Also I wanted to make sure that as far as the finished product was concerned that it would have to be luxurious, sophisticated, classic and with exceptional attention to detail. And above all else it had to be affordable without compromising on quality.”

MG_Santorini_QCS_HR

Learning that Target were on the lookout for exactly the kind of range she wanted to make, Megan was keen to add her name to the list of Target’s successful designer collaborations. So, in late 2013 she began the design process, creating a collection of quilt cover and sheet sets, cushions, throws, towels and bathroom accessories, inspired by her many travels.

“Beautiful destinations such as Santorini, Paris, London and New York have been some of my favourite cities to visit over the years and the memories I held from travelling to places such as these sparked the imagination. Taking in the decor from amazing hotels I’ve stayed at, locations I’ve been on for work and architecture and style influences from these different cities provided me with a huge bank of design inspiration to draw from.”

TT_MG_Mila_COV_HR

Creating six stories within the collection: Hollywood, Corfu, Santorini, Paris, New York and London — each is unique and distinct, but at the same time easily mixed and matched. “One of the things that I felt was important was to create stories and pieces that can be mixed and matched back with one another. By doing this, it’s become a cohesive capsule of homewares that are versatile and also allow people to be creative.”

New York

With such an extensive debut collection it would be hard to choose a favourite, but if Megan had to say it’d be the Santorini story. “The white soft cotton sateen and Aegean Sea blue detailing on the quilt cover set instantly reminds me of Santorini’s crisp white walls and crystal blue waters. I love it!”

The MG Australia collection will be available online and in 100 Target stores across Australia from 10 September. For more information.

Target Australia step up their homewares offering. Big time!

Wrongly or rightly, I’d always seen Target Australia as a brand that ticked the box for affordability, but wasn’t exactly ahead in the style stakes. Yet after checking out their Autumn Winter 2015 range yesterday, I can confidently say my mind’s been changed.

global luxe target interiors addict
Global Luxe

What came as absolute news to me, was this time last year there was no Target Home design team, meaning everything you saw in store was designed by suppliers. However, jump to today and Target Home now have six designers, creating all their products in-house from scratch.

“Home had been neglected for a long time,” says Target Home design manager Bruce Summers. “But now, with our own design team, we have really been able to focus on our products and designing them to be much better. We’ve also streamlined our range. At one time in bed linen we had 140 quilt covers on the floor, now we’ve gone down to 40!”

soft pop
Soft Pop

As well as more than halving their range, they’ve also divided their products into three themes: colour, monochromatic and casual living. “We chose those themes based off different people’s homes and the way they like to shop,” explains Bruce. “Our last colour theme was Retro Modern and now that’s evolved into our current theme, Soft Pop. They have a similar palette and common elements, which means everything sits together well and it makes it easier to shop season after season as you can mix and match. Before, we had pretty much every colour and it looked really fragmented.”

lodge target interiors addict
Lodge

Alongside Soft Pop, which is inspired by 60s minimalism, there’s the monochromatic Global Luxe, which features metallics, tribal iconography and luxurious textures and the casual living Lodge, which is all about whites, natural timber, knits and warm neutrals.

With many of the products having hit stores in recent weeks, the remainder of the season will drop end of March. For more information.

Curtis Stone launches cookware for Target Australia

I must admit I’m a bit of sucker for any of Target’s celebrity or designer collaborations, so I was very excited to hear that celebrity chef Curtis Stone has released a new, affordable kitchen range exclusively for Target Australia.

puYxwA3oqYOSTCWi5HAruHwDJCqMJvJXxi6mGO5rNE0

Available both in store and online, the new 80-piece range of cookware and tableware was created specifically for home cooks. What’s even better is the prices won’t break the budget, ranging from $4 for food preparation bowls to $100 for a premium cutting work bench, and $7 for side plates to $60 for an oil pourer.

With so much on offer it’s hard to pick a favourite, but Curtis’ must-have pieces are the Magnetic Attraction Stand (below), which frees up drawer space and keeps utensils in an easy to reach spot while cooking, the Pick-Up Scoop, which acts as an extra pair of hands in the kitchen, scooping up finely diced ingredients, and the Chop Chop food chopper, which saves you time.

With over 220 products in the collection, the collaboration has been 14 months in the making, with Missoni’s creative director, Angela Missoni, overseeing the design process. Featuring their signature bold colours, textures and patterns, the range will also feature several exclusive prints. And with the majority of pieces priced between $10 and $129, with several statement pieces available for $169, everyone will be able to get a piece of designer luxury for their home or wardrobe.

While we have no pictures of the homewares yet (it’s all very hush-hush!), the range will include: bedroom and bathroom wares, tableware, soft furnishings and stationery. So get excited! Watch this space for more information in the coming weeks!
