IKEA: What’s new for April

While temperatures are dropping and we are very much in the throes of autumn, the latest IKEA arrivals are a rather light and bright affair. From a new coffee table that is set to become a cult classic, to a fabulous rattan dining chair and some fun textiles, here are our picks from the April drop.

BORGEBY coffee table: This birch veneer beauty is perfect for small spaces. While it’s only 70 centimetres in diameter, the clever storage underneath more than makes up for its diminutive size. $149.

The design is handmade in India, in organised weaving centres with good working conditions and fair wages, making it an ethical buy too. $149.

PÅDRAG vase: The perfect way to dip into the fluted glass trend with minimal damage to the hip pocket. It’s designed to look beautiful with or without flowers. $2.

Padrag vase

FRÖJERED kitchen fronts: The brand’s first bamboo kitchen front, these minimally designed drawer fronts are made from responsibly sourced bamboo and are super hard wearing. $40.

IKEA Frojered

VOXLÖV chair: Made from bamboo and twisted paper cord, this chair is not only fabulous looking but it’s environmentally friendly too. We predict it will be a massive hit. $119.

Top tips for starting your own online homewares store from those who’ve been there and done it

By Natasha Voudouris

Our journey into the online world began less than 2 years ago, when my mum Debbie and I had the idea of creating a website for her interior styling business. At the time, Mum had just completed a new interior design course and was ready to put her excitement and passion into practice. Up until that point, she had been flying solo as an interior stylist for over 10 years. I found myself drawn to her assignments and our shared love for beautiful furniture and homewares grew deeper.

While we were pouring out ideas for mum’s new website, we talked about one day having an online store. Talking and dreaming soon became planning and organising. Within a few weeks we had our name, Zohi Interiors, a domain and a logo, and chose a web development company. Within a few months, we began importing from India, Morocco and beyond.

We often get comments that our online store appears polished and looks like it is run by a team of 20, not a team of 2 who have never had any web or retail experience! The truth is, creating an online brand isn’t easy, we are constantly growing and learning to keep improving our business. We would love to share a few tips for anyone who is considering launching their business online.

Temple & Webster send stylists to their VIP customers’ homes

Online homewares and furniture destination Temple & Webster is offering a personal home styling service to its VIP customers. They’re sending their editor (Victoria Baker) and stylist (Jess Bellef) to visit the homes of their regular customers and help them beautify their living spaces with existing pieces and new ones they’ve bought from the online store.

Susan, from Brisbane, was the first person to be treated to the VIP experience.  Stylist Jess says: “Susan was lovely and welcoming, as was her home. It was a beautiful old Queenslander house, which was built in the early 1900s. Large rooms, nice flow through, and two main balcony sitting areas. Susan and her family have extended and renovated over the years, and the space was just so relaxing. There was Temple & Webster product everywhere!”
