Arro Home’s debut kids collection is bold, colourful and fun

With a diverse range of adult homewares it was only going to be a matter of time before Arro Home expanded into kids wares.

arro home interiors addict1

“We just couldn’t resist,” explains designer Alice Oehr. “We had a lot of ideas of things for children and we always wanted Arro Home to be available to the whole family.”

Launching their debut kids bedding collection 10 November, true to Arro Home’s distinctive style, it’s all about bold colours, creative prints and tactile fabrics. “It’s so much fun designing things for kids. You can tell a story with the product in a different way to an adult collection. You can go a little crazy with the colours and patterns and it allowed us to re-live some of our own childhood favourite things.”

Entitled In the Sky, as the name suggest, the range is inspired by everything from up above. Deep dark space, vibrant colours of the solar system, sparkly constellations, fluffy clouds and a smiling sun and moon.

Kicking off with two prints, Cloud Nine and Astro, it is featured across doona covers, pillow cases, and cushions. To pair with the prints is Constellation — a simple grey and white sheet set — four new cushions and a knitted cotton blanket.

Soft and simple, it is sure to inspire kids at play and (hopefully) settle them into slumber!

Toucan’s art prints for little ones by sisters Renee & Natalie

Like many, when sisters Renee McGrath and Natalie Muscatello had children, they desperately wanted to find a job that was flexible around motherhood. Unlike many, that job actually turned into their dream career.

toucan cc

Launching children’s decor label Toucan in 2014, Natalie, who has a background in retail and design, and Renee, in preschool teaching, combined both their skills to create an online shop full of art prints, bedding, garlands and rugs.

toucan

With the aim to create beautiful, modern spaces where children (and their dreams) can grow, the art prints are designed and printed by the sisterly duo, with all other products being sourced ethically with quality and longevity in mind. “It’s important to us that our designs are contemporary and generate positive energy,” explains Renee. “We want to give kids the opportunity to visualise their true potential.”

toucann

Specialising in prints, for the sisters, art has always been the most important part of a room. “Art brings such a beautiful energy to an interior,” says Natalie. “It provides a talking point, helps to frame the space and injects it with colour and creativity.”

toucan b

With a large suite of art prints on offer, their capsule collection draws upon inspirational quotes, ensuring motivation is never more than a glance away. “Our timeless and charming art pieces will dress your walls with hope, inspiration, motivation and positive thoughts including: ‘Dream Big Little One,’ ‘From Little Things’ and ‘Good Vibes Only,’” explains Natalie. “For something a little sweeter (and without a quote), children will just love our favourite product, ‘Golide Ice-cream’ which is fun, colourful and makes us smile! Or alternatively, be wild and free with the ‘Flamingo Heart,’ ‘Water Coloured Deer,’ or ‘Love you more than I could Bear.'”

toucan 1

While they love their art, the sisters aren’t leaving the rest of the business behind. With Toucan on the upward trajectory, they have recently relocated to a larger space and have a whole range of new ideas in mind. “We’re about to have a creative explosion,” says Renee. “We have lots of fun, new designs in mind and are expanding our linen range to include a whole new suite of products for the nursery room.” Watch this space!

Babee & Me’s locally made and on-trend kids homewares

Rachel McKenzie is proof it’s never too late to find your calling! Both a biomedical scientist and a qualified personal trainer, it wasn’t until she had her two sons that she felt a desire to create.

Starting Babee & Me, Rachel began designing a range of unique products for the modern baby and child, passionate about making quality handmade wares. “I started Babee & Me as I really care about buying locally made products and knowing the whole process of how it’s made. Rather than mass-produced items where not much is known about what they are made from and how ethical they are. I also wanted to create modern and on trend items that give me pleasure to create and in turn give pleasure to my customers who purchase them.”

lay mats, cushions, toys and wooden blocks and houses. Designing everything herself, she also enlists the help of illustrators to design some of her graphics. “I always start with an image in my head of how I want the product to look and then either design it myself or pass it on to a designer to bring to life. I then use that for my screen printing, which I do at home. For my wooden blocks and houses everything is designed and created by myself from the original drawing to the finished painted design. I constantly have new products on the go either in my head or partly finished, and am always striving to be unique and original.”gMzHx1zAu6ofajkOqbYu-iArQoyg12oOpEUjsDYwJH8,L1t1MTx-llfhiKEfm7tzD2xPTgDw0udBDJUrXPU3ouM

Offering a vast array of unique products, our favourite are her customised play mats (Jen’s son Sebastian is the proud owner of one!). “I’m a big fan of our play mats because most (except the fox) are created from a hand cut stencil and can be custom-made to suit the decor of the customer. Not to mention each and every one is hand printed and so is unique. Plus they look fabulous.”jFa1hZHRKTIlle33jts5KQ8_X3tjC4epG2x-aJXjw4M

With many more designs in the pipeline, Rachel hopes to become a recognised name in the kids homewares and toys market. “I would love to become a known name for those seeking unique, fun and ethically produced products right here in Australia. By supporting my business you also support other Australian businesses, as I will continue to source my supplies from here as well.”

Così: super-sized, colourful bath towels for stylish bambini

The by-product of a lawyer, an industrial chemist turned marketing manager and four children under five (eek!), new brand Così have created a range of 100% cotton, delightfully soft and irresistible to touch bath towels for children.

Cosi_HR_0005_1024x1024

Designed by Melbourne-based Italian sisters Tina and Jo Randello, each towel is full-sized despite being for little ones. “Our research with children and parents told us size really does matter with towels,” explains Tina. “They have to be large enough to cocoon the smallest baby to the biggest kid. That’s why we call our Così towels children’s bath sheets.” And if they’re full-sized they’re perfect for adults too… just saying!

COSI 2

Fresh and contemporary, all four designs boast an exotic colour scheme in shades that reflect what kids love, but also tap into mum’s sense of style. ‘The collection captures an empowering richness and opulence that is fun for children of all ages and will give instant glamour to an adult’s bathroom,’ says Jo. “You won’t be blamed for wanting to drape your Così towel over the back of your kid’s bedroom door or in the bathroom all day.”

Screen Shot 2015-06-29 at 2.44.06 pm

Setting the benchmark for intelligent design that will stand the test of time, the towels are made from 500gsm pure cotton and feature a pattered side in sheered velour and a block grey side in absorbent looped terry. All towels are machine washable and have been subject to a rigorous testing regime before being released.

Così towels can now be pre-ordered online for a September delivery and will also be exhibited at Life Instyle, Melbourne next month.

KwithHeart: handmade for “bubs with serious spunk!”

With a motto to create products for: “bubs with serious spunk!” Karrie-Anne Vieceli of KwithHeart offers a range of quality wares including organic jersey swaddle blankets, organic muslin wraps, cot sheet sets, bibs, pillowcases and tees.

kwithheart interiors addict 1

Launched last year, shortly after having her first child, KwithHeart was born out of a desire to find something a bit different to the traditional baby colours and patterns. “There were very limited options around at the time I was pregnant,” explains Karrie-Anne. “So I decided to make them instead! I remember telling friends I was having a black and white nursery and their response was: “What the?!”. However the style turned out to be popular and it fit well with the other designs I had planned for my own bub. Friends started asking about buying my designs and as I love making and creating, I thought I’d share the love and launch KwithHeart.”

kwithheart interiors addict 3

Balancing her creative side with her ‘real’ day job in the corporate world, Karrie-Anne loves the opportunity to work in two very different professions. Designing and making all the products herself, she enjoys the art of creating, even if it means juggling two jobs and a toddler! “KwithHeart is essentially me! Though I recently employed the services of a local sewing expert, as this allows me more time to do the things I am more passionate about. Of course it really wouldn’t be possible without the support from my husband, family and friends.”

kwithheart interiors addict 2

With an ethos to make every product with absolute heart, Karrie-Anne does everything from the initial designs to distribution. “My swaddle blankets, wraps, bibs and cot sheet sets are hand stamped using lino block stamps. I design and hand carve the stamps myself, then I hand-paint them with non-toxic, water-based ink, and heat set each piece. Like most creatives, I have also branched out to do a few different things along the way, with hand painted custom pillowcases being one of them.”

With every item being gift-wrapped, with optional handmade gift cards, Karrie-Anne hopes to make buying gifts that much easier. With a style that is bold, makes a statement and packs a punch, KwithHeart wares are a perfect addition to any kid’s room.

Ink & Spindle branch out into ready-made homewares

Known for selling their beautiful textiles by the metre, this Christmas Ink & Spindle have branched into ready-made homewares, releasing a small collection of pyramid floor cushions for kids, ottomans and cushions.

ink & spindle interiors addict 4

“We get a lot of enquiries from people who love our designs but don’t necessarily have the time, skills or tools required to turn fabric by-the-metre into something special for their home,” explains co-founder Caitlin Klooger. “While we are very proud to supply our fabric to lots of other makers, we wanted to expand our own range to include more ready-made pieces that are not only beautiful but also functional.”

All their homewares are made with ethically sourced, natural textiles that have been hand printed with original Ink & Spindle designs, with the end result being pieces that are affordable, durable and hand washable.

ink & spindle interiors addict 3

With Caitlin and her co-founder Lara Cameron being mother’s themselves, durability and beauty were a must, with their pyramid cushions offering an option for kids furniture that doesn’t have to be hidden away! “We both love finding pieces that are kid-centric yet still interesting, beautiful to have around, well made and – perhaps most importantly, machine washable,” says Caitlin. “Our aim was to create something that you’d be proud to keep in your living room, rather than be hidden away when visitors came, or banished to the bedroom or playroom.”

ink & spindle interiors addict 2

Inspired by a love for Australia’s native flora and fauna, as well as the energy of Ink & Spindle’s hometown of Melbourne, their designs aim to have inherent longevity, rather than following current design or fashion trends too closely.

As with all Ink & Spindle textiles, the pieces in the new range have been made according to the highest standards of sustainability and ethics, including using only sustainable and fair trade base cloths and water based, solvent free inks.
