What’s not to love about rattan furniture?

Rattan furniture is having a serious revival, don’t you think? Everywhere I look, I’m seeing peacock chairs and bedheads, brought bang up to date with the latest paint colours. I also love old school, untreated rattan paired with wonderful contrasting textiles on cushions and linen.

The patterns in pieces like this screen also work well with the trend for geometrics. If you have the patience and a creative streak, you can pick up some secondhand gems at op shops or on eBay and give them a new lease of life by painting them yourself.

If, like me, you’re a bit useless like that, you can buy it in just about every colour under the sun. All of the furniture pictured is by Lincoln Brooks, used by many of the country’s top interior designers but also available to retail customers through stores like EcoChic and Naturally Cane. It’s lightweight, affordable, eco-friendly, made from natural materials and can work both indoor and out. Plus, it’s easily given a new look with new upholstery should you move house or change your colour scheme, for example. So versatile!

The winner of 7 Vignettes March is…

Dee! (aka Pictured Thoughts on Instagram).

Guest judge Darren Palmer and I were equally impressed with her consistent effort throughout the entire week (never mind the outtakes which have continued to be posted as extras ever since!). This is why she won…

CirclesIt was such a tricky choice this month with so many stunning entries! I think even Darren might agree it was tougher than judging a room on The Block! But we both feel pretty confident we picked the right person. Darren, who said the quality of everyone’s work was inspiring, added: “Dee definitely had the most vignettes I liked over the week. Great work all round and there were many entries in my shortlist. I was so happy to see such great style and skill out there!”

7 vignettes March

This month I’ve compiled the list from participants’ suggestions. I hope you like them! The lovely Darren will be watching the hashtag and joining in the fun, then helping me pick the winner at the end of the week.

The Adore Home magazine 2nd birthday party

I had a great time at the Adore Home 2nd birthday party with Emma from Nest Designs last night. And what better venue than Passionate About Design (Pad) in Waterloo, one of the most beautiful furniture and homewares stores in Sydney?

Believe it or not I’d never met Loni Parker, who owns the mag, before, despite having written for it, so that was a real pleasure. It was a full house, including interior designers Greg Natale, Juliette Arent and Sarah-Jane Pyke (Arent & Pyke), stylist Megan Morton and many more industry faces. With plenty of champagne, Miss Chu canapés and a lolly buffet, a great time was had by all!

At PAD “it’s all about finding pieces you’ll love for a lifetime”.

Two old friends with backgrounds in fashion, interior decoration and styling have brought their many skills together to create the most wonderful shop, loved by professionals and consumers alike.
At PAD (Passionate About Design), in Young Street, Waterloo, it feels more like a series of rooms than shop displays, and that’s the whole idea. The co-owners are buyer, merchandiser and interior decorator Olga Lewis and interior stylist Kellie Murray. Third owner Chris Yang works in finance but loves interiors and spending time in the store.
