Buy a house for charity and feel warm & fuzzy for life!

Sponsored by Henley

Imagine buying a brand new dream house and then getting to keep that show home look and everything in it! Well, it doesn’t just happen on The Block, it could happen for you. Plus, you’d know everything you paid for it went to an amazing cause: the Royal Childrens Hospital Melbourne’s Good Friday Appeal!

This is the 25th year Henley has built and donated a house to the Good Friday Appeal (with land donated by Villawood Properties) so they wanted to make it extra special. The no-reserve auction house comes furnished thanks to friends of Interiors Addict IKEA, Early Settler, Incy Interiors, the Print Emporium, Willow & Wood and Clarke Rubber. It was our pleasure to help source and choose the furniture and homewares for this special project.

You can take a tour of the double-storey Emperor 41, situated in Villawood’s boutique Waratah community, below.

Here’s the unisex nursery furnished by Incy Interiors, GlobeWest, The Print Emporium, Willow & Wood and Clarke Rubber. How cute is it?!

The living and dining areas were furnished by Early Settler and I love the pink and grey colour scheme. It would be so easy to move straight in!

Living room furnished by Early Settler with sofas, artwork, side tables, coffee table, accessories and more.

Pendant lighting was gifted by Beacon Lighting and the kitchen cupboards stocked with essentials by IKEA.

IKEA also furnished the theatre room, the al fresco area and the guest bedroom!

Good Friday charity auction: This new home could be yours!

With no reserve set, one lucky family will call this new-build home when it goes under the hammer as part of this year’s Good Friday Appeal for Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital. Located in Geelong (Mt Duneed to be precise), the house sits on 599 square metres of land generously donated by Villawood Properties and built by Henley.

Constructed over five months, with more than 400 trades and suppliers donating their time and products, every dollar raised at auction will go to the Good Friday Appeal.

The lounge

“We are thrilled to deliver the Henley and Villawood Properties Charity Home Auction ahead of the Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children’s Hospital, and we encourage any new or would-be home buyers to visit the house at an upcoming open for inspection,” says Henley’s managing director Peter Hayes.

Kitchen

“We are humbled by the continued generosity of our suppliers and tradespeople, who, year after year, donate their time to help create a stunning home to be auctioned off. In donating 100 per cent of the proceeds, it means a family has the opportunity to buy a quality house in a beautiful community for a good cause – and for most of us, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to donate such a significant amount of money to charity!” says Peter of the home that is located just 10 minutes from the Geelong CBD and 15 minutes from Victoria’s famed surf beaches.

Master bedroom

The home boasts four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a powder room, north-facing alfresco area, home theatre, study, butler’s pantry and a whopping five living areas! Other details include 40mm Caesarstone bench tops, high ceilings and SMEG stainless steel extra-large appliances. There is also timber-look flooring throughout, premium carpets and polished porcelain tiles plus ducted heating and air-conditioning and a security system.

Ensuite

The bathroom and ensuite both feature double vanities and extra-large showers with semi-frameless glass screens. And with window coverings to the bedrooms and bathrooms, flyscreens, a lock-up garage, clothes line, fencing and professionally landscaped front and rear gardens, the lucky new owner won’t have to do a thing!

Entries open for 2013 Dulux Colour Awards

Architects, designers, specifiers and students are invited to show their imaginative use of colour with entries for the 2013 Dulux Colour Awards now open.

Now in its 27th year, the Awards is all about how architects and interior designs apply colour to transform the three dimensional spaces they create. Dulux Colour & Communications Consultant, Bree Leech, said: “Colour is an integral element in the overall design process. It has effects that are not only symbolic but also emotional, and in 2013, we’re looking forward to receiving entries that push the boundaries and use innovation, imagination and flair to showcase colour in architecture and interior design.”

Industry celebrates at last night’s Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in Sydney

Hecker Guthrie and the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne picked up the big prizes at the Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in Sydney last night. The Seymour Centre was packed with the best names in the industry, sharing in each other’s success at the event, hosted by Inside magazine.

Hecker Guthrie’s Park Street residence, winner of the residential decoration category

In picking up the Gold Medal, Paul Hecker and Hamish Guthrie of Hecker Guthrie (who also picked up the residential decoration category) gave heartfelt speeches about their passion for the job, the fun they have at work, their respect for each other and how people shouldn’t think of “decoration” as a dirty word.

Facet Studio picked up both the emerging designer and international project categories and clearly weren’t expecting either, struggling to find the words as they took to the stage, overwhelmed and flattered at the recognition from their peers.

The judges had a difficult job, with a highly commended award also given in several categories, sometimes even two!
