Smeg’s new fully integrated, push-to-open dishwasher

Smeg — the Italian brand that brought us the very first six star rated dishwasher just last year – has now released a fully integrated model.

150427_DWAFI315PO

Taking aesthetics to the next level, it features a cobalt blue interior LED light, a discreet flashing light that hits the floor (and not the eye) when the appliance is in action and a gentle push-to-open mechanism.

The tall tank DWAFI315PO dishwasher, designed to take large 345mm fine china dinner plates, features programmes such as EnerSave, Quicktime and Flexizone. The energy-saving EnerSave automatically opens the door at the end of the programme to aid drying, while QuickTime reduces five different wash programmes to just 27 minutes for lightly soiled loads. The highly flexible Flexizone means items can be placed anywhere in the dishwasher for the half load setting.

Like its sister models, this new entry features a six star WELS rating, washing a full load in less than 10 litres of water, and a four star energy rating – credentials that won Smeg’s other 315 models the coveted Choice Recommended Buy.

Smeg’s DWAFI315PO Push to Open 6 star WELS dishwasher retails for $2490 and is available from specialist retailers. For more information.

Smeg small appliances finally available in Australia

In this job, you get pretty good at spotting what’s going to be popular and I’m convinced these new Smeg small appliances are going to FLY off the shelves. I was lucky enough to attend the launch of these in Milan last year and have been waiting (im)patiently for them to land in Australia. Last week, Olivia attended a glamorous launch in Sydney and ever since we shared pictures on Instagram, our readers have been going mad for them!

Smeg Kettle PG-Toaster P

Smeg say Italian design, award-winning style and enduring performance are the trademark features of the new collection of small appliances – the latest extension to the brand’s iconic FAB retro refrigerators. While we would all love a FAB fridge (I’ve been obsessing over the thought since I was a teenager and still don’t know which colour I’d choose but it WILL happen one day!), they aren’t the cheapest out there. Now, there’s an entry level Smeg option with a two-slice toaster ($179 to $199) through to the space age looking signature kitchen mixer at $799.

Designed in collaboration with Matteo Bazzicalupo and Raffaella Mangiarotti of Deep Design Studio, there’s also a kettle ($199) and a four-slice toaster ($199 to $219). Each retro style appliance pays homage to the Golden Age of the fifties while showcasing Smeg’s signature elegance and sophistication. Indeed, the aesthetics of the stand mixer and toaster have already received the GOOD DESIGN Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design plus the prestigious international iF Design Award for 2015.

Smeg Mixer R-Kettle C-2-2

There are up to seven colours — silver, black, red, panna and pastel blue across the range — plus pastel green and pink for the kettles and two-slice toaster.

And while style is always a standout feature of any Smeg appliance, it goes hand in hand with the brand’s commitment to the very latest technology and highest performance. The kitchen mixer, for example, sets new benchmarks in terms of power and versatility. Attributes include 800W high torque motor, 10-speed variable power and the all important soft start (no more splatters when starting at a high speed) and a planetary mixing action to ensure all areas of the bowl are reached. There is also a low-speed front attachment hub for optional attachments such as pasta roller and cutters. A blender, with a capacity of 1.7 litres, an 800W motor and four speeds will be added to the range later this year.

Smeg Kettle PB-Mixer PB-Toaster P

The Smeg kettle is feature rich with quiet-boil technology, soft-opening lid, cord-free swivel base and auto shut-off when the body is lifted from the base. It also has automatic switch-off at boiling point. A variable temperature model will be added to the range later this year.

Toasters include both a two and four-slice model with extra wide slots, reheat, defrost, cancel and bagel settings plus self-centring racks, six browning levels and removable stainless steel crumb tray.

Each of the small appliances features an enamel-coated stainless steel body and has been manufactured to the highest standards. Smeg provides a 12-month replacement warranty on all kettles and toasters, a three-month replacement warranty and five-year full manufacturer’s warranty on all kitchen mixers.

The complete range of Smeg small appliances is available from electrical and appliance retailers nationally from May. The range is already available at Myer.

Shabby chic kitchens gaining popularity

While sleek modern kitchens, with their clean finishes, custom designed cabinetry and integrated appliances are undoubtedly very popular, the retro, shabby chic style of kitchen is also gaining fans.

smeg interiors addict 4

With cupboards, tables and shelving that rarely match and accessories and tools in a mix of colours and finishes, there is usually one hero piece that anchors the space. And top of that hero wish list, in a growing number of cases, are Smeg’s freestanding retro-styled cookers and iconic refrigerators (I happen to know Jen is OBSESSED), which seamlessly meld beautiful vintage styling with the most efficient 21st century technology.

smeg interiors addict 7

The FAB28 and FAB10 refrigerators (there are other sizes available), feature automatic defrost, crystal quick-chill shelves, tropical rating and the choice of left or right-hand door hinges. The cute FAB10, which comes in a choice of black, red and panna is an under-bench model standing 960mm tall. Designed for drinks, it has bottle shelves, adjustable can holders and door shelving compartments.

n-09

The FAB28, standing 1510mm tall and with a total capacity of 271L, features customisable drawers and keepers for salads, vegetables, meats, dairy, bottles and eggs plus a dedicated chrome wine rack. Available in a multitude of colours and finishes, from strong primaries to beautifully soft gelato colours, it even comes in a denim and black velvet matte finish.

The Victoria freestanding cooker, in black or cream, is worthy of its hero status in terms of both styling and performance. With an enamel finish, perfectly proportioned metal controls and a picture-perfect vintage design, it houses two six-function 70-litre capacity thermoseal ovens, a 2700W electric grill, a seven-burner gas hob and a generous storage drawer. For those wanting to complete the look, there’s even matching rangehoods, in two styles, in both black and cream.

Smeg appliances are available nationally from electrical retailers, appliance specialists and some department stores. For more details visit their website.

We’re a little bit excited about the Smeg small appliance range of kettle, toasters and mixers hitting our shores this year (Jen attended the global launch in Milan last year, as you do!). You’ll be first to know when we know more.

Smeg’s SmartSense induction cooktops the fastest yet

Being the fastest and most energy-efficient form of stovetop cooking, Smeg’s fifth generation SmartSense induction cooktops include full surface cooking technology, automatic zone recognition and double booster power surge.

Smeg Black Linear with SAI95 induction interiors addict

Delivering up to 3700W of power, a litre of water can be boiled in a mere two minutes, compared to the six minutes of radiant ceramic and the eight minutes of gas. Another benefit of induction cooking is that temperature changes, via the slider touch control, are reflected immediately and not gradually as with other forms of fuel.

A further comparison with more traditional forms of stove top cooking is energy-efficiency – 85 to 90 per cent with induction as opposed to about 65 per cent with radiant coil, 58 per cent with halogen and 40 to 45 per cent with gas.

Smeg SAI90MB-90cm interiors addict
Coming in both black and white in three sizes: 600, 700 and 900mm widths, the cooktops are incredibly intuitive. Each of the cooktops features multizone technology whereby multiple pans can be used simultaneously anywhere on the surface – there are no dead areas. Place a pan anywhere on the cooktop’s surface and the corresponding control will automatically recognise where it has been placed and light up instantly.

Each touch slide control has nine temperature levels, a boost and a super boost function plus a timer. With all zones able to be used simultaneously.

The Smeg collection of new generation SmartSense induction cooktops is available nationally from appliance specialists, electrical retailers and some department stores. Visit their website for more details.

Smeg freestanding ovens get the tick of approval for first homes and holiday homes

For those lucky enough to have a holiday house or in the midst of renovating their first home, freestanding upright cookers are becoming the go-to appliance. Loved for their sense of style, small size and most importantly their ability to complement a simple yet stylish kitchen on a conservative budget, the freestanding cooker seems to be a favourite that’s not going out of fashion.

Smeg C9 L-S

No newcomer, they have been around for more than a century, but Smeg are presenting them in a newly sleek aesthetic. Featuring richly specified features, which can suit both the contemporary kitchen and the more rustic, the compact design of the upright means there is no need for supporting cabinetry. It can also take up to as little as 60 square cms of space, with other sizes on offer including: 70 and 90cm to 110, 120 and 150cms.

The 90cm models seem to be the favourite, in a choice of designs from the vintage Victoria in black and panna to the semi-commercial style in stainless steel, black and white. Of these, the C9 is a popular choice: eight oven functions, including rotisserie and super fan forced, six cooking zones, a 126 litre capacity oven and static and fan grill. The C9 is truly a versatile option, being available with gas, induction or ceramic cooktop and in an all-gas version (gas oven and cooktop).

Smeg kitchen appliances are available nationally from electrical retailers, appliance specialists and some department stores.

Smeg: Bridging the gap between high performance and domestic ovens

Breaching the divide between high performance professional kitchen appliances and the domestic alternatives, Smeg has released its flagship 90cm pyrolytic (self-cleaning) built-in oven – the SAP3900X.

SAP3900X_3

As the final element in Smeg’s collection of new generation, high performance ovens, the Classic design SAP3900X includes stand out innovations such as: the Thin Film Transistor display with ultra clear graphics, the S-Logic interface that provides intuitive, simple control of multiple functions and Smart Sense self-guiding cooking programs.

Special functions within the cooking programs include proving mode (for baking breads etc), slow cooking, eco-energy-saving fan-forced mode, plus nine other baking functions such as fan assisted, supercook, fan grill and baker’s function.

With the SAP3900X, labour-intensive cleaning is also a thing of the past, with the generous 90 litre capacity pyrolytic oven having a three-hour cycle for heavily soiled oven interiors and an eco-energy-saving 90 minute option that is tailored to lightly soiled ovens.

The Smeg SAP3900X retails at $4990, for a list of stockists and more information visit the Smeg website here.

Smeg launch seriously stylish stand mixer, toaster, kettle and blender in Milan

If there’s one thing Smeg’s known for it’s iconic and stylish design and their latest small domestic appliances, launched in Milan this week, do not disappoint.

On the one hand, it’s entry level Smeg for those of you who have been lusting after their retro FAB fridge for years but not quite able to justify the price tag. Or you may be lucky enough to already own a Smeg fridge or dishwasher (jealous!) and looking to add a complemetary toaster and kettle! You’ll struggle to find more stylish gadgets for your bench top and the big plus is they all come in ALL OF THE COLOURS!

SMF01CREU

Together with Matteo Bazzicalupo and Raffaella Mangiarotti of deepdesign, Smeg has delved into the not too distant past to come up with this 1950s style collection. Similar to the adored FAB28 fridge, the collaboration has created much more than simple electrical appliances.

Toaster_1_CR

Smeg say they are for those who love to surround themselves with strong aesthetics without compromising high quality and performance. From the 2×2 and 2×4 slice toasters, to the standard or variable temperature kettles, to the blender and stand mixer, Smeg small domestic appliances are tools that ensure excellent performance in all stages of food preparation, and have powerful personalities to match.

I was lucky enough to be at their world premiere at the Dolce & Gabanna Gold resaurant in Milan as part of design week. They are the result of intensive research and Smeg’s continuing ability to express excellence in “Made in Italy” design. If, like me, you want your gadgets to look as they function, look no further.

I also enjoyed tours of two of Smeg’s factories in Guastalla this week. I’ll share more with you about that soon.

The products will be available in Australia later this year. Find out more at Smeg Australia.

Smeg Linear oven with TFT display tells you how to cook

Last time I let my vacuum cleaner tell me what to do I got into a whole world of trouble. But Smeg clearly thinks I should give the machines another chance and listen to what its new oven range has to tell me. Or at least read what its new oven range has to tell me.

Smeg Oven SFPA140-LS

The Smeg Linear SFPA140 comes with a TFT touch screen that will give you recipes tailored to Australian produce, advise you on how you should set up your oven depending on what you are cooking and take care of all the fiddly bits and pieces that would usually be handled by a knob or physical button.

New Smeg Ceiling Mount Range Hoods add class to your kitchen

It seems like every part of the house is turning into art these days – which is a bloody good thing really. No more awful irons, horrid metal pans, plain Telstra branded phones or… huge and ugly range hoods. Smeg, the chaps behind those fridges that pretty much everyone with an ounce of style wants has turned its attention to kitchen ventilation with this new range that melds interior design chic with kitchen practicality and a touch of technology to boot.

Smeg CM Vertigo-LS

First things first, these are serious range hoods not just expensive kitchen ornaments. The three new range hoods are Vanilla, Zoom and Vertigo. Each has four speeds for the ideal extraction rate as well as four halogen bulbs to light the kitchen as if it were daylight. You can even get continuous use through the Key 24 mode which runs the system continuously and silently for 24 hours. Thanks to the built-in energy diffuser, there is a significant increase in energy efficiency as well. For convenience, the metal filter is dishwasher safe.

Smeg’s iconic retro style FAB fridge has been super-sized!

This is great news! Smeg’s 50s-style refrigerator, which I have long coveted, and is rightly loved for its style as much as its colour, now has a big brother! Despite its good looks, the FAB28 was never the biggest or most practical fridge, especially for families. But the new FAB50 has about 75 percent more capacity.

n-09

Available in 3 colours – panna, silver and white – the beautiful vintage styling houses the very latest in refrigeration technology and has a generous capacity of 473 litres gross. Frost-free operation, multiflow ventilation, fast-freeze compartment, quick-chill crystal glass shelves and convenient 0°C chiller compartment are just some of the family-friendly features.

Smeg French door fridge (that doesn’t look like a Smeg fridge)

A Smeg fridge has been on my appliance wishlist for as long as I can remember. My obsession with the classic Smeg started at an age when I really should have been getting more excited about shoes. Or underage drinking. Or boys. Not white (or maybe baby pink) goods.

n-09

This latest model, the FQ60XP, looks nothing like the classic FAB32 I still dream of, but it’s an awful lot more practical and clever. (I still remember seeing my friends’ beautiful cream Smeg banished to the garage when it became too small for their two-child family and replaced with something far less good looking). I digress. Australians are showing a strong preference for the ‘French door’ style refrigerator with sales increasing 38 percent in the past year. And these style fridges are becoming so advanced they’re moving from the purely ‘replacement buy’ category to ‘aspirational must-have’.

Smeg Combi Steam Oven

Good news anyone who has ever had the unfortunate experience of having to eat food I have prepared in an oven – next time it won’t be so dry and look like a small meteor that entered the earth’s atmosphere. I kid, of course, because I’m not stupid enough to let anyone other than myself (and sometimes poor Jen) eat the creations I come up with that need to be baked.

Smeg Combi Steam Oven

Smeg is the reason I can make such large claims because it has just launched the Combi Steam Oven. Put simply, it’s an oven that is not just your conventional convection (fan forced) affair, but it also comes with steam function. There is still the traditional fan grill, static grill and fan forced options, but you can also use the steam function alone or in tandem with the traditional methods for a more gentle cooking method that will also save power.
