My stay at the Karl Lagerfeld designed Sofitel So Singapore

Right at the very end of our recent six-month trip, we were lucky enough to stay at the new Sofitel So Singapore to break our journey from London for a few nights. It is most famous for being designed, in part, by fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld.

Sofitel So Singapore - Standard room

Not only are the interiors very cool (despite the rather small size of the rooms) –a nice mix of classic and modern– there are all manner of great free inclusions like wi-fi, mini bar snacks and soft drinks and a golden (yes, you read right) rooftop pool! It’s very high-tech too with pretty much everything in the room controlled via Apple technology. I never got tired of opening the blinds from my bedside iPad!

Here’s the lobby bar, which was often full of cool young things! I loved the design.

Covet my coffee table: with Tash Sefton from TheyAllHateUs

Today’s coffee table belongs to Tash Sefton, one half of the hugely succesful Sydney fashion blog, TheyAllHateUs.

Tash 4-1

“Our house is full of books, of mainly fashion and interiors, that I have collected from all my travels,” says the full-time blogger. “I love piling them up on hand to read. I currently have a pile at the base of my coffee table.

“I always have the latest magazines from overseas – my fave Vanity Fair, Vogue Paris and British Vogue. And I love having my personal items around me. Here are a few Chanel bags. They make me happy! I always have fresh flowers and candles from my friend Kirsten (Walker) who makes Palm Beach Collection.”

Tash was formerly a buyer and head of womenswear for a leading Australian fashion retailer. More often pictured looking effortlessly stylish in her signature ripped denim, she says the coffee table is the central part of her living room, often piled with toys when her sons use it as a play station! “We also use it as a dining table — we love sitting on the floor around it. Oh, and it’s my husband foot stool when he watches the TV!” We love a multi-functional piece!

Her tips for styling a coffee table? “Change it daily.”

Illustrator Kerrie Hess shares her Paris apartment and tips for style on a shoestring

I’ve been to Paris an impressive 14 times and have always dreamed of living in a Paris apartment. Talented illustrator Kerrie Hess has lived this dream. Luckily for Australia, she has recently returned home to Queensland, but she generously shared some photos from her stylish pied-à-terre with us.

It’s a brave person who moves to the other side of the world to a country with a different culture, where they speak another language, but for Kerrie, it was a bit of a case of now or never. “I had been learning French for many years and a lot of my clients were in Paris, so, while my son Marcel was still only two, it seemed a great time to move to France.” They spent 18 months there before returning to settle in Brisbane’s Hawthorne, in time for Marcel to start school.

The stylish Miss Hess (and yes she is the sister of fellow illustrator Megan Hess) works for such huge names as Chanel, Kate Spade New York and Louise Vuitton, so it seems most appropriate for her to have been creating her beautiful drawings in one of the most romantic and fashionable cities in Europe.

Fashion, interiors and illustration combine in Megan Hess’ first book

These are three of my favourite things: interiors, fashion and illustration. And we all know I’m a big fan of Melbourne illustrator Megan Hess too. So her book, Fashion House, is pretty much the dream!

Have you ever dreamed of living in a house styled by Tom Ford? Do you long for a Parisian suite worthy of Coco Chanel, or perhaps a Riviera escape fit for Grace Kelly? Megan has spent her life imagining and illustrating sumptuous lifestyles and decadent interiors from around the world. Fashion House (clever title, no?) is a lavish collection of her most beautiful rooms, inspired by the fashion elite.

From the Fashion Office and Grand Estate, to the Vintage Loft and Paris Salon, she also depicts the rooms of the Fashion Set – from Versace and Dior to Coco Chanel, Pucci and Jimmy Choo.
