Decorating 101 Expert Tips Interiors Addict Styling

Considered patterned curtains? Neale Whitaker shares his tips

Window treatments might be the last thing you think about when designing your space but they’re the finishing touch that every room needs. When it comes to curtains, they can make or break the look of a room. Not only do they make a space feel finished, but they have the ability to transform an interior, whether it’s creating the illusion of a higher ceiling, drawing the eye across a room, or framing views to a beautiful vista outside.

Luxaflex has added all-new curtain prints to its collection with nine designs on offer. The patterns are sourced from creative houses across the globe, and inspired by biophilic design, water impression paintings and botanical motifs.

Styles available range from traditional flora designs, such as the Vintage Garden or Fuji Canopy prints, to ones with more modern and bold patterns and colours such as the Peijing range. Multiple colours are available for each print, and the curtains come in various fabrics, such as velvet, faux silk and linen.

Neale Whitaker, interior design expert, says, “Choosing a print curtain is similar to choosing a large artwork or wallpaper. Ask yourself these questions: What statement are you looking to make? Do you want a print that complements your existing colour palette and decor, or contrasts with it? Do you want the print curtain to be the main focus of the room, or be a backdrop to other furnishings?”

If the answer is the former, then Neale suggests a more decorative print; otherwise, softer, more abstract prints should be chosen. “Full-length print curtains will always make more impact than short curtains, and a contemporary twist is to use prints in conjunction with blinds or sheers. Not only will they look beautiful, but the additional layer will protect your print from the strong Australian light.”

Neale is a firm believer in bending the rules when it comes to interior design, and sometimes even breaking them. However, prints should always be considered carefully, as you want them to be a focus of your room.

“Whether you’re installing print curtains or using prints on furniture, consideration must be applied – too many prints will cancel each other out, so it’s about finding the right balance,” says Neale.

When it comes to mixing prints, Neale warns that it requires a skilled eye. His advice is to limit your choice of prints to two to avoid clashing, and opt for contrast. For example, prints with defined tones or simple patterns will blend perfectly with the more decorative patterns. They contrast yet complement each other, especially when linked by a common colour.

Prints can be used anywhere in the home but work especially well in bedrooms. Teamed with crisp white bed linen, print fabric cushions added to the bed bring a relaxing and welcoming feel to your room. To complement the room and grab attention, consider adding the same print fabric to cover an armchair, to finish off your space.

“Australians have long embraced prints – think of our love of brands like Marimekko and Missoni, but it’s great to see a new audience appreciating more complex, decorative prints,” says Neale. “I predict we will be seeing more traditional prints used in conjunction with contemporary furnishings. The contrast will be interesting and exciting.”

Original affordable art prints: Bespoke designs created in Melbourne

There’s no denying the art print scene has exploded over the last five years and while it’s largely been a great thing for interior lovers, it has sometimes felt like we are drowning in a sea of sameness. From horses to palm fronds, the art print scene can feel a bit homogenous which is why we were delighted to discover Design Mondo recently. Owned by Melbourne’s Jenni Mappin, who has 30 years’ experience as a graphic designer, the business prides itself on its boutique offering and Jenni creates all of the designs herself.

“I always like to keep up with the current decorating trends but without being one of the pack. I believe that what sets me apart from other wall art suppliers is my ability to provide unique and original artwork. I’m not attempting to appeal to the masses but rather the discerning customer who’s after something a bit more bespoke,” says Jenni who creates all of the designs using a combination of acrylic and digital techniques.

After 30 years at the helm of her own busy graphic design business (complete with 12 employees), Jenni was looking for a new creative venture which explains the genesis of Design Mondo. Motivated by a desire to create at her own pace, while turning her illustration and design skills into a viable business model, Jenni hasn’t looked back since launching the company six years ago.

“I decided that wall art prints would be a great way to showcase my original and creative artwork giving me the freedom to work from my studio and create whatever I wanted. It was the best decision I ever made, and I absolutely love it,” says Jenni.

Inspired by nature and colour, Jenni’s range is vast – her prolific output is simply because there are too many ideas that she wants to explore. “My style is constantly changing as I struggle to stick with any one style for too long, often resulting in me being halfway through a design and already planning my next one. I like to think the benefits of having a diverse range gives my customers a wider choice to select from,” says Jenni who designs prints for every room of the home.

The designs are printed on high quality 230gsm fine art paper with Epson pigment-based inks. Customers can order the prints with or without a frame – the designs fit into standard IKEA, Officeworks, Spotlight and Country Road frames if you want to DIY.

“I use only high quality wood (not plastic) frames which I outsource to a professional framing company here in Melbourne. The frames are available in beech, black and white and have plexiglass as opposed to glass which can shatter in transit. All frames are ready to hang so all you need to do is open the box and display!.” The print sizes range from A3 to a whopping AO (84cm x 119cm) and Jenni can organise bespoke sizes on request. The range also includes a variety of canvas wall prints.

The most popular designs in the range are the painted bird, animal and floral abstract prints and Design Mondo’s curated print sets of two and three have been a hit too. “People, domestically, are really into the wildlife of Australia,” says Jenni who cites her magpies, cockatoos and lorikeets as some of the best-sellers.

The two and three pack prints are an affordable way to bring interest into the home. “I started off that idea with the print packs years ago. With two or three in the pack you virtually get one for free, including the framing.”

Affordable art: Boho Art Styling’s dreamy, coastal vibes

A professional photographer and digital artist for 15 years, Boho Art Styling’s Brooke Taylor decided to set up her own online artwork boutique after being disappointed with what was already on offer. She was also encouraged by her mother who was looking to fill a brand new home with artwork, without breaking the bank.

“My mum didn’t want to pay nearly $1,000 for a piece of curated art so I sourced and created the artwork she needed, at a fraction of the prices advertised elsewhere, and the business grew from there,” says Brooke.

Boho Art Styling

Based on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, the pastel-hued coastal vibe of the region underpins the Boho Art Styling aesthetic. “Nature is the biggest inspiration for me. Growing up Bayside, I’ve always loved the ocean and surrounds. There is nothing better than that feeling that only nature can inspire! I like to translate those feelings into my artwork, and bring that feeling into people’s homes,” says Brooke.

Boho Art Styling

Comprised of both photography and design, Brooke’s range is derived from her own work as well as a curation of commercially licensed designs from local and international artists. Currently, Brooke offers prints, framed artworks, canvasses and removable wallpaper. The prints come in sizes that fit into frames from Officeworks, Kmart, BIG W, IKEA and Spotlight but Brooke offers custom sizing too. And with an A3 print costing $45 (including free delivery Australia-wide), the range is very reasonably priced.

Boho Art Styling

“I am also starting to offer more digital downloads, from under $10, that people can print off at home or at places like Officeworks. That said, for the time, effort and cost, it is much more affordable purchasing prints and having them delivered to your door!” says Brooke.

Boho Art Styling

A single mum to two young children, Brooke runs her business around the clock using a variety of self-taught marketing skills; social media being one of them. Though she saw the dark side of Instagram recently when, after having built her following to 17,000 people in 18 months, her account was disabled, after what she believes was a complaint from a competitor.

Boho Art Styling

“A competitor made false reports to Instagram, which resulted in my account being disabled, and it all but broke me. I had worked around the clock to build the business to that point, and to lose such a huge tool was devastating,” says Brooke who is currently in the process of rebuilding her Instagram following from scratch.

Boho Art Styling

“As rewarding running your own business can be, it has been a lot of hard work, especially in such a cutthroat industry,” says Brooke, who spends her nights packing orders, when her children are asleep. “I have never worked so hard with such long hours all my life! But I’d rather put in the hard yards for myself and my family to build something that is going to pay off in the long run.”

Fleur Harris: woodland and whimsy is a full-time job!

You may already be familiar with Melbourne artist Fleur Harris via her stunning ‘Woodlands’ wallpaper available through Jimmy Cricket. In it, a whimsical menagerie of forest animals (deer, foxes, racoons, squirrels, owls and bunnies) all peer out from behind lush foliage in the design that is now hanging in hundreds of homes across the globe. “Those artworks have very intricate pattern repeats and they took a long time to make so it’s wonderful to see them putting smiles on children’s faces everywhere from America to Russia, Poland and the UK,” says Fleur.

Working with oil paints and digital software to create her artworks, Fleur’s subject matter centres largely around nature – especially flowers, foliage and animals. “My artworks are often highly detailed; I spend a huge amount of time on them. I always put a lot of time into each artwork, I come back to them to perfect them, I don’t let them go out into the world until they are just right. Each artwork is a true labour of love,” says Fleur.

And with gorgeous colour palettes another notable feature of the artist’s work, it doesn’t surprise me that a lot of work goes into their selection. “Colour plays a large role. I spend a lot of time refining my colour palettes and it’s a crucial detail,” says Fleur.

While formally trained in fine arts, interior design and illustration, Fleur isn’t that keen to define herself as one thing or another – she describes herself as an artist, product designer and creative thinker. “My work doesn’t fit neatly into one little box or category. I’ve worked with brands to create all sorts of wonderful things; wallpapers, children’s bedding, dinnerware – it’s a long list,” says Fleur who welcomed her son a couple of years ago and juggles her work commitments around him.

Perhaps one of her most high-profile collaborations, Fleur started working with Adairs last year – her first children’s range was a sell out and her fourth range has just been released in Australia and New Zealand. Titled ‘Springtime,’ it’s as fresh and pretty as its name suggests. “I adore this time of year, when nature awakens and begins to buzz with life,” says Fleur. The collection includes a quilt cover and sheet set (in sizes from cot to king), as well as wall art, a play tent and special separate unicorn themed pillowcase. The violet and green combination is glorious.

“Kids’ bedrooms can be a sanctuary, a safe space of their own where they sleep and play and dream. These collections are forming a backdrop to the childhood memories they’re creating. I’m very mindful of this when designing these ranges,” says Fleur.

Collaborations aside, Fleur has also been very busy working on a series of oil paintings and illustrations, all of which are available as ready-to-hang framed prints on canvas. “I’ve been asked many times over if I will ever sell prints of my paintings so it’s great to be able to offer my artworks in that format now,” says Fleur.

‘Blue Posey’ framed, open edition print on canvas. From $420.

A series of still life images, the works feature flowers and foliage on dark backgrounds and Fleur is particularly excited about the range of sizes they are available in. “I worked with an incredible photographer in Melbourne to digitally capture all my paintings, so I could reproduce them in a range of sizes, some much bigger than the original. I love big statement artworks, so it was important to me to offer them in larger sizes.”

Blockheads Hannah & Clint’s new art range: Women star

It’s been two years since former Blockheads Hannah and Clint Amos debuted their first art print range in collaboration with Melbourne based artwork retailer Artist Lane. And the busy couple (who are now parents to three children since the arrival of their son Archie nine months ago) are back with a new range. It’s a great mix of art and on-trend photography that’s akin to the rooms the couple delivered on the show – sleek and modern with a feminine twist.

Hannah & Clint

“We had such an overwhelming response with our first collection, and we can’t wait to share this beautiful collaboration. Our love for watercolour lives on and it’s no surprise that blush pink remains the dominant colour in the collection,” says Hannah. But the collections also features brighter, more playful works than the last, and the couple has added a few new artists to the entirely female stable too.

The couple with the ‘Peonies will keep us together’ print

“Funnily enough I wouldn’t say working with only female artists was intentional. We just naturally gravitated towards those artists and their creativity. That being said, working with female talent has always been important to me. When women support each other, incredible things happen!” says Hannah. Fern Siebler, Taylor Lee, Renee Tohl, Jenna Paige and Ani Ipradjian are just some of the artists with work in the range.

Hannah with the 'Oh My' print
Hannah with the ‘Oh Me’ and ‘Oh My’ prints

A diverse collection, there’s landscape photographs (both aerial and more traditional) as well as painterly watercolour works and bolder pieces. “It’s the right balance of feminine yet the moody hues and inky blues add that masculine feel. Modern, soft florals round out the collection and coastal vibes take us back to our Queensland roots,” says Hannah. Fittingly, Clint’s favourite piece ‘On The Beach’ is an aerial landscape shot that conjures a bright summer’s day on the sand.

Hannah also drew on her travels in Morocco with the location featuring in a couple of pieces (‘Moorish’ and ‘Moorish 2’) – the terracotta hue is decidedly on-trend. “That piece features the Pantone Colour of the Year coral and my all-time favourite peachy hues of terracotta and dusty pink,” says Hannah.

One of Hannah’s favourite pieces is Jenna Paige’s ‘Teal Love’ which is a fabulous and fail-safe mix of deep green and pink. “Jenna joins our team as one of our featured artists and her artwork is simply divine! Her artwork is highly inspired by the ocean and the other wonders that mother nature offers us,” says Hannah.

Artist Kirsten Jackson’s new prints & 20% discount code

Regularly exhibiting on the international circuit, Melbourne artist Kirsten Jackson’s 20-year professional artistic career continues to thrive and this month her work becomes even more accessible with the release of five gorgeous new prints starting from a very affordable $390.

‘A lot of happiness’ print

“Three of the new prints are very bright and the other two feature more monochrome, rustic colours,” says Kirsten of the limited edition run that is printed with archival inks. “They’re very close to the original but the quality is amazing. I get so many stylists come to my studio with clients and they think the prints are original,” says Kirsten. Available printed on canvas (to look like the original) or on archival paper behind glass, the sizing runs from small to extra-large but Kirsten can create custom made ones too.

'Forever Love' print
‘Forever Love’ print

Working with watercolours, inks, acrylics, oil pastels and house paints, Kirsten describes her style as happy and contemporary. “I love colour and I’m really drawn to colour. I’m not very good at drawing but I’m good at colours and putting compositions together,” says Kirsten who takes a visceral approach to her work. “I don’t think when I’m working – if I think then I usually wreck it!” 'A love that lasts forever' print

‘A love that lasts forever’ printBut ironically, Kirsten’s ‘happy’ aesthetic was borne out of childhood grief with her dad passing away when she was just three years old and her mum when she was 14. “The only thing that made me happy was running and painting so I initially painted just for me but then began painting for other people. I still have people telling me that my works made them very happy,” says Kirsten.

'Forever love series' print

Based out of a studio in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Sandringham, Kirsten has a ‘by appointment’ shop front and workshop at the back. And it’s there that she paints her works before they’re shipped across the world with many of her clients finding her through Instagram. “Instagram is unbelievable for business. I think it’s really amazing that people can find you and it’s been huge for me. Last week I had paintings shipped to Canada, the UK and France,” says Kirsten.

And March is looking like a huge month for Kirsten too with her work being exhibited in London, New York, Brussels and Sydney. “My work has been shown overseas many times and every show is a sell-out – there’s always people waiting. Sometimes the pieces are sold before they even get there. I imagine this time will be no different!”

Until midnight this Saturday 2 March, Interiors Addict readers are able to get 20 percent off Kirsten’s new range by using the discount code THANKYOU20.

Amy’s lust list: September 2018

Given we’re in the enviable position of coming across gorgeous wares on the daily, I thought it was about time I shared the things I’ve been coveting of late. From Slim Aarons inspired photographic prints to the latest whimsical bed linen, there’s so much to love as we head into spring.

Kerrie Hess ‘Louis Giraffe’ print: The first animal print from the celebrated fashion illustrator, I’m just a little bit in love with the little (big!) guy. Louis the giraffe is statuesque in Paris, standing alongside a set of iconic Louis Vuitton luggage. Perfect for the little ones. From $275.

Kerrie Hess giraffe print

Feliz Home: ‘Dream Weaver’ is the latest collection from this Aussie bedding brand and I’m particularly taken with the delicate hand stitched details, fringing and whimsical patterns. The hand drawn travel-inspired motifs are rather gorgeous too – there are pillows that celebrate an array of Australian capital cities as well as Byron Bay. The range is made from pure Belgian linen and crisp organic cotton and is priced from $39.

Feliz Home

Urban Outfitters bath mats: From statement tigers to Moroccan inspired geometrics, the Urban Outfitters bath mats are perfect for injecting a bit of fun in the bathroom. From $49.

Stuart Cantor prints: These remind me so much of the late great Slim Aarons but they were captured by our very own Melbourne-based photographer Stuart Cantor and are available through Tigmi Trading. Shot in France and Italy, old school glamour abounds and don’t even get me started on the gorgeous warm tones.

Stuart Cantor prints

“Tigmi has a certain aesthetic and a warm colour palette. The range we selected is a combination of France and Italy. It’s that old world feeling. You look at the photos and are hopefully transported to another space,” says Stuart. From $800.

Spark & Burnish Ocean Plastic knobs: Made from ocean plastic and created by industrial designer Andrew Simpson of Vert Design, proceeds from the sale of these gorgeous cabinet handles are donated to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation and go towards raising money for marine conservation projects. $77 each.

Castle & Things Sweet Pea quilt cover: The latest from Rachel Castle is like spring for the bed. I absolutely adore the combination of floral and stripe. Love! From $135.

Renowned interiors photographer Armelle Habib’s debut art

Armelle Habib is one of interiors most sought-out photographers. I wouldn’t be exaggerating when I say we publish a home or furniture range she’s shot nearly every week! So when I found out she had decided to launch her own limited-edition photographic art print range — inspired by travel — I wasn’t surprised, but I was extremely excited.

DayOfTheDead

“Launching my debut collection has been something I’ve thought and talked about for a while,” explains Armelle. “If I boiled it right down, my love of travel is what led me down the path of becoming a professional photographer, so hence this range is inspired by travel, warm climates, texture and colour!”

Bondi

PinkStairs

[contextly_sidebar id=”bkdpnPGNlXyk41S9tL9ktgN3SnsiEvEv”]Having recently entered motherhood, whilst also renovating her home (busy bee!), the idea for the range came about when Armelle was contemplating her blank walls. Finding herself daydreaming about Croatia where the skies were blue, the water clear and the air warm, she dug out some shots from the archives, printed one and hung it on the bare wall. “Friends have always encouraged me to curate a series, so with this and my reno in mind, I made some selections of other places I would love to be, and here we are. I guess it has been a long time coming. It has always been on the cards.”

Frida'sHouse

Now rather than taking photos of beautifully styled interiors, Armelle’s artworks are being used to help style those exact same spaces, with her prints being very well-received. “It seems that people’s love of colour and exotic destinations is a shared one, and the prints are heading out to many interior projects and walls in people’s homes as we speak.”

Croatia

Black&White

Clearly a summer fan (Armelle believes she was a lizard in a past life!), her collection was inspired by her love of warm, tropical and exotic environments. “The colours and landscapes of Mexico were hard to beat and feature heavily in this first collection, as do beaches. My prints sum up the escapes I take in my head from the depths of our cold winter months here in Melbourne.”

So, if you’re feeling like an escape yourself (it may be summer but let’s admit Australia has notoriously moody weather!) check out Armelle prints now. All prints come with a certificate of authenticity and are signed and numbered.

Best friends create free-flowing, contemporary homewares

Scoring their first high school jobs together at their local store, best friends Stephanie Candelli and Loren Carbone always had big dreams of working alongside one another.

v Chased Designs

But with Stephanie an interior designer and Loren a teacher, specialising in visual arts and P.E., their fantasy always seemed unlikely… until one fateful trip. “It all started with a casual discussion we had on a plane trip home from Greece after an overseas holiday together,” explains Loren. “It soon got very serious as we were full of inspiration from our travels and suddenly had aspirations to create. We virtually started Chased Designs the next day.”

Chased Designsv

A homewares business specialising in handmade prints, paintings, cushions, candle holders and decorative blocks, the entire Chased Designs range is made by the duo in their hometown of Adelaide. Embracing contemporary designs in two contrasting styles: geometric abstraction and instinctive free-flow art, one style is cool, composed and controlled, the other intense, wild and untamed.

Chased Designs v

c Chased Designs

Their latest instalment is their decorative Mini Blocks, which can be used as coasters or styled under a candle or jewellery. Starting from $10, each hand painted piece is one-of-a-kind and is protected against heat and water. Perfect for getting creative with, they come in two bold styles: Geos and Paints.

Also new in store, are Chased Designs’ latest prints of original fluid paintings. Available in A5, A4, A3 and A2 and as an instant download online, you can also get an original painting as a custom order commission piece. Their hand-sewn cushions (available as just covers or pre-filled) are similarly worthy of note, coming in a range of colours, prints and fabrics with hidden zip closures.

Buying and styling photographic art prints just got easier

Working as a magazine stylist, Emma O’Meara was always on the hunt for the next big thing. Finding the photography of Jason Furnari through a friend, she soon began using his fine art prints for editorial shoots, and then, came the idea for a collaboration.

OPC-Outdoor39_2048x2048
Emma and Jason

“We both have a shared love of photography and interiors,” explains Emma. “So we immediately bonded over the idea of creating a beautiful selection of prints to sell.” So, rather than just talk about it, they did just that!

ThePrintCollection3394ret01_1024x1024-1

Starting online photography store, Our Print Collection, just last month, the duo offer a range of both framed and unframed fine art prints. With Emma curating the collection and Jason the lead photographer, their body of work is unique, contemporary and beautifully presented, ready to be hung on the wall.

ThePrintCollection3353_1024x1024

A cohesive range of 32 images, many of the photographs are from Jason’s personal collection, a body of work he’s been creating for some 20 years! “I have worked as an editorial and commercial photographer for decades and have been lucky to travel extensively throughout my career. On my days off while on jobs I always took time to shoot for my personal collection, so I’m excited to finally share this work.”

OPC-Outdoor20_2048x2048

With images of water and the coastline prevalent, as well as a handful of aspirational travel images, all the photographs share that same sense of emotion. “It was important to us that we curated a set of evocative images that we could picture on our own walls,” says Jason. “The images resonate with us, they evoke a feeling, reflect a moment in time or visually they may just be an interesting place to be.”

Traditional-03

However, beautiful images aside, Our Print Collection stands out from the crowd for another reason, with Emma’s background giving the business a unique edge. “Working as an interior stylist gives me good insight into what is on trend with both art and things like frame styles. I like creating images for our website that show how our collection might look in your home and I think this helps the buyer to picture how our prints can work in different settings.”

OurPrintCollection-8976_1024x1024

Offering three products: unframed prints, shadow line framed prints and traditionally framed prints, they came in two sizes and three finishes. All the art is printed, framed, packaged and delivered from Barwon Heads, Victoria and shipped Australia wide.

New loved up prints and stationery from Rachel Kennedy Designs

With its pretty, painterly feel, the new art print and stationery collection from Rachel Kennedy Designs draws on the most universal of muses – love.

RK im in love hi res-8
“Our latest collection centres around my favourite theme – love and all it encapsulates,” says Rachel of the range, which draws inspiration from famous love letters.

RK im in love hi res-6

Quotes are nabbed from Beethoven (‘ever thine, ever mine, ever ours’) and Elvis (‘can’t help falling in love with you’) for the whimsically romantic collection.

Freehand typography, intricate details and watercolour effects appear alongside photography and on-trend foil stamping. The Japanese ‘shibori’ hand-dying technique also makes an appearance in the range that features unique wall prints (available framed and unframed), foil-stamped swing tags and gift wrap.

RK im in love hi res-13

“The design for each print develops organically as I go about my day. Inspiration often comes from the most menial things and I never really know how each piece will turn out. Often the design ends up totally different to when I start and I love that!” says Rachel.

“A year and a half ago I was a commercial print designer drowning in a digital world,” explains founder Ellen Powell. “I needed a print fix and Blushing Confetti came to the rescue.”

Starting with wedding stationery, Ellen and her husband Nathan quickly expanded into prints and other paperie goodness, all designed, printed and hand assembled right here in Australia.

Having just released their second collection, inspired by interior design and beautiful luxurious materials, the newest additions to the product range encompass a mix of paint techniques, marble finishes and of course shiny foils. “On top of our existing print collections we have expanded into cards, notepads, gift tags and desktop calendars,” says Ellen. “Our hero product is our 2016 marble desktop calendar; complete with copper foil details and hand polished marble bases. Being able to bring in texture, colour and materials that expand beyond paper is pretty cool and something you can expect to see more from us.”

Not taking themselves too seriously (“because where’s the fun in that?”), for Ellen and Nathan the best part of their job is seeing the reactions to their products. “Whether it is oohs and ahhs, a giggle or disbelief that we would actually print a swear word, it’s proof that the all-nighters, stress eating and hand cutting confetti on weekends is totally worth it. We both love this wild ride that we are on and all the rad people we meet along the way.”

Art Club Concept: homewares meets interior fashion

As anyone in the fashion industry will attest, fashion is a way of saying who you are without having to speak. And now, more than ever, the home has become a further extension of this. A means of expressing yourself, being creative and representing your personal identity.

Taking this concept and running with it, is new label Art Club Concept. Referring to themselves as a brand that merges homewares with interior fashion, founder Ben Lawry was inspired by his fashion background. “After being heavily involved within the fashion industry for almost a decade I was ready for my next challenge. I wanted to create amazing interior art that is inspiring, accessible and offered across a range of categories.”

Beautiful illustrations for the Interiors Addict x The Envy Edit collaboration

A collection of daily drawings of all sorts of must haves, The Envy Edit is the brainchild of Sydney creative, Angelique Sloss.

I love to keep busy and make sure my creative juices keep flowing. So with my latest venture I wanted to do something different. I wanted to combine my love of drawing and my Instagram addiction.” And so, The Envy Edit was born!

Illustrating items that reflect what is currently trending, as well as some of her all-time favourite pieces, Angelique draws anything and everything from homewares to fashion to food. And as a special treat, she has created three Interiors Addict x The Envy Edit illustrations. We absolutely love them!

Showcasing all her artworks on her Instagram feed, @theenvyedit, she also sells a selection of them as prints and greeting cards via her online boutique. Creating the illustrations with either markers, watercolours or pencils, no illustration has the same design process. “Each project is different. I usually start by analysing the purpose of the artwork then go from there. Majority of the time I use images saved in my phone as reference for what I am drawing. Having that by my side, I begin sketching up the image with pencil. I then choose what materials are best for the artwork.”

No longer strictly working in fashion, when Angelique’s not busy drawing she’s freelancing for a variety of brands. “Being in the creative world I juggle a few different roles. I am a freelancer for a few brands — working on their marketing and design projects — and I also lecture at one of the design colleges in Sydney: Karl Von Busse Institute of Design.”
