Step inside Carrie Bradshaw’s New York City brownstone apartment

With the latest instalment of Sex and The City due for imminent release, Sarah Jessica Parker is opening up the doors to a recreation of Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic New York city brownstone apartment, in partnership with Airbnb and Warner Bros.

“The Carrie Bradshaw character is near and dear to my heart and revisiting her world for the continuation of the Sex and the City story has been such a joy. I’m excited for our audience to experience Carrie’s New York like never before and walk in her shoes, quite literally, for the first time,” says Sarah Jessica.

Open to those currently residing in the US (boo!), four lucky guests will get the chance to sip Cosmos, type away at Carrie’s laptop and chat with friends using a circa-2000 cordless phone. Possibly the most fabulous part of the experience is the access to the character’s iconic closet with guests invited to take part in a styling session and fashion-focussed photoshoot too. And while SJP won’t be in actual attendance, guests will be greeted virtually on arrival. How fun!

The incredible closet

And while this experience is out of reach for us in Australia, we thought that taking you on a virtual tour of the apartment was the least we could do. A beautiful shade of sage green dominates the bedroom and living area while the closet is bathed in a bold blue hue. From the furniture to the fashion, vintage style pieces abound. We love!

*Sarah Jessica will virtually host two, one-night stays for up to two guests each at a recreation of Carrie’s brownstone on 12 and 13 November 2021 for only USD $23/AUD$30 a night, in honour of the 23 years since we were first introduced to the fashion-forward icon and her friends. Bookings opened on Monday.

Illustrator Megan Hess designs penthouse in first interiors job

Internationally renowned fashion illustrator Megan Hess is making the move to interiors, styling one of the two luxurious penthouses at Mirvac’s Array in Melbourne’s Yarra’s Edge precinct.

ARRAY by Hess living hero image_1 interiors addict

Briefed to create something elegant, contemporary and chic, Megan will select all of the penthouse’s interiors including artwork, furnishings and homewares. She will also be creating a range of bespoke pieces, consisting of wallpaper and cushions, which will bring her fashion illustrations to life.

Famed for her work on the Sex and the City book cover and with huge names such as Chanel, Dior and Vanity Fair, a move into interiors is something Megan’s been building towards for quite some time. “Bringing my illustrations to life in a physical space and creating a home that feels like a living work of art was always going to be the natural next step to me. To be given such a beautiful blank canvas and free rein to create a high fashion home above Melbourne – a truly chic and artistic city – is a dream come true.”

Mirvac Group’s executive residential director John Carfi, says the partnership with Megan was in response to a strong demand among premium purchasers for exclusive properties that cannot be replicated. “Megan is one of the most coveted and in-demand illustrators in the fashion world. It is a coup to secure her and an honour that her first major interiors project is Array by Mirvac. The Array penthouses will be two of Melbourne’s most incredible properties when complete, offering incredible views of Melbourne’s CBD, and Megan’s touch will elevate it to a new level. We can’t wait to reveal the final product.”

Currently immersed in the design process, Megan and Mirvac will unveil the completed property next year.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s New York home for sale

Oh, you’ve got to love a good celebrity real estate stalk! Sarah Jessica Parker’s West Village home in New York is up for sale again and I really like her style. It’s not as eclectic as you might imagine, but then again we must remember she in fact an actress and not her Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw…

I wandered around West Village on our recent trip to New York (shopping tips here), dreaming of living in the West Village.  It’s so perfect! Yep, never gonna happen…

Everyone’s idea of affordable is different but for the purposes of this post, I’m talking art for under $500 and, in many cases, under $100! All Australian and available to buy online from the comfort of your own home.

Blacklist

These guys, husband and wife duo Jaynie and Nathan Johnson, remain in my top 10 because they continue to produce fantastic affordable prints and wall flags which are always featured by the glossy magazines. They’re also really nice people, and that’s important too!

The design lover’s guide to New York

Sponsored by Laminex

As a homewares shopping starting point, no trip to NYC is complete without visiting the legendary American stores Anthropologie and Jonathan Adler! I would usually add West Elm and Pottery Barn to this list but, luckily for us, they’re now open in Australia (just Sydney for now but West Elm opens in Melbourne too, later this month).

Design lovers cannot go past the Jonathan Adler stores to pick up a quirky piece or a signature colourful, patterned cushion or throw. Friends of Interiors Addict Kate and Lu, from The Ooh Blog, were lucky enough to go on a trip earlier this year. “I developed a devastating idol crush on this uber fun designer a few years ago and it felt a little bit stupid really that I had never physically stepped foot inside one of his stores,” says Lu, an interior designer in Sydney. “I had a moment on the front steps then delved into a happy-chic paradise full of colour and pattern and retro, regency gorgeousness. It was a little overwhelming to see the pieces I’ve been frothing over online for years in the flesh but I was so thrilled to find that Jonathan, who began his career as a potter, is one seriously talented individual and his product is of an incredible standard and well worth the slightly heftier price tag. His tongue-in-cheek approach to decorating is evident in many pieces like the hilarious Delirium Coasters while others like the Desmond Screen are effortlessly chic.”

Fashion, interiors and illustration combine in Megan Hess’ first book

These are three of my favourite things: interiors, fashion and illustration. And we all know I’m a big fan of Melbourne illustrator Megan Hess too. So her book, Fashion House, is pretty much the dream!

Have you ever dreamed of living in a house styled by Tom Ford? Do you long for a Parisian suite worthy of Coco Chanel, or perhaps a Riviera escape fit for Grace Kelly? Megan has spent her life imagining and illustrating sumptuous lifestyles and decadent interiors from around the world. Fashion House (clever title, no?) is a lavish collection of her most beautiful rooms, inspired by the fashion elite.

fashion house cover megan hessDrawing on her experience creating iconic windows for Bergdorf Goodman in New York, illustrating for labels such as Chanel and Dior, and publications like Vanity Fair and Time, Megan’s combined her love of interior design (she’s married to an architect and I recently blogged her gorgeous home) with her signature illustrations to create a book that both celebrates style and helps you achieve it. From the Fashion Office and Grand Estate, to the Vintage Loft and Paris Salon, she also depicts the rooms of the Fashion Set – from Versace and Dior to Coco Chanel, Pucci and Jimmy Choo.

Who wants a hand drawn floorplan of Carrie Bradshaw or Frasier’s apartment?

Well, here’s something I didn’t know I needed (or even existed for that matter) until I came across it: a hand drawn floorplan of Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment from Sex and the City! Even better, all manner of other famous TV home floor plans, including Frasier, Friends, Big Bang Theory, Seinfeld and more.

Sex and the City illustrator’s converted church home in Port Melbourne

Today I’m very excited to share with you the gorgeous home of Megan Hess, the stylish illustrator of the Sex and the City book cover and much more.

Megan Hess

Illustrating for brands like Tiffany & Co, Chanel, Dior and Laduree, Megan is living her dream. She lives (and works) here, in the roof of a church, with her architect husband Craig Yelland and two young children. There is nothing usual about this four-bedroom home, which is one of the things she loves the most.

“I initially thought the space was completely crazy,” she said. “It was the entire roof of an 18th century church! The location was perfect and it was enormous BUT it was a roof. Craig took photos, scanned them into the computer and started to show me where we would put walls and how it would work (the perks of being married to an architect!). As soon as I saw that I knew it would be perfect.”

They have transformed it into their dream home and have been living there for three years. “Every single inch of it is built around how we like to live and the things we love.” The kids have their own area where they can play, make mess and hang out, and the “parents’ area” is a retreat from it all. “I feel like my pulse goes down the second I walk into that space,” says Megan.

Fashionable art by Australian illustrator for Tiffany & Co, Dior and Marc Jacobs

Did you miss out on Fashion Week in Sydney this week? Or, like me, were you lucky enough to take in some shows? Either way, you can find an excuse in there to treat yourself to one of these divine limited edition signed prints by Melbourne illustrator Megan Hess.

Most of the Australian artist’s work is actually sold to America, and her clients include Tiffany & Co, Dior, Chanel, Rolex and Marc Jacobs as well as magazines like Vanity Fair and Time. If you read glossy magazines, you’ve probably seen her drawings numerous times without knowing that talent came from right here in Oz! Or you may have seen her cover illustrations for Candace Bushnell’s books like Sex and the City or Lipstick Jungle. I’m truly blown away by the beauty of her work.
