Transform Ikea & vintage furniture with affordable decor product, now available here.

Today I’m really  excited to tell you about a décor product that will help you transform affordable or secondhand furniture into something truly fabulous, unique and expensive looking. And it’s just been brought to Australia.

overlays Xandra on Malm

These lightweight, decorative fretwork panels come in several patterns and sizes. They are paintable and easily attach to furniture, mirrors, walls and glass.  I’ve seen O’verlays on American blogs for years and thought they were amazing but could never find someone to deliver them to Australia. Luckily for me, Sydney-based Therese Tarlinton has now brought them here. At about $20 per panel, I think they’re going to be ridiculously popular!

The simplicity of wire and a pop of colour make for storage and decor delights

Yes, The Woodsfolk have done it again with their latest wire wares in store. Love me a bit of good looking storage!

The magazine racks above are $35. So simple yet so effective: wire and pops of colour. Not only do they look good (especially on that dark wall), they’ll help you get organised and tidy! The square crates below are $75 and could be used on their side or on the floor, even mounted on a wall. I think I need some for my office!

And what about this wall candy? The arrow ($30 & $45), heart ($90) and lover ($154) signs are so cool! I love the simplicity of them.

How to deal with a case of decorative accessory overload in your home

If, like me, you love a vignette, are drawn to pretty shiny things like a magpie and believe in the power of a decorative accessory or 2 (okay, okay, 20!) to brighten up and add personality to your home, you may know where I’m coming from.

These decorative accessories are also known as:

  • objet d’art
  • ornaments
  • trinkets
  • knick knacks

In my case, in my living area alone, these objets include chunks of amethyst, a Georg Jensen brass bowl full of champagne corks, candles, stacks of coffee table books, a bone china owl (bloody owls!), bowls, mirrored trays, perspex trays, glass cloches (the aforementioned four all have more stuff on or underneath them), slices of agate, trinket boxes, a paper sculpture fashioned from a vintage book, vintage crystal, coral, not one but two decorative pineapples, and so it goes on. And on. And on.

You can imagine the dusting! I’m well aware I’m starting to sound like one of those cliches from F**k Your Noguchi Coffee Table (but without the replica furniture). Consequently this is so not a kid friendly zone, much to the amusement of my friends with kids (who I love, incidentally!).
