The Tabletop Project day 3: Tash Sefton & Elle Ferguson of They All Hate Us

Christmas is all about gathering together for a feast with your favourite people. Sydney furniture makers Mark Tuckey asked seven of their favourite creatives to create a Christmas table (Some are glitzy, some are glam, some are just plain dotty) and we’re sharing one with you each day this week.

Fashion bloggers Tash and Elle used the Locator Dining Table. “Our table top was created for the perfect Christmas lunch for the They All Hate Us girl. In our world it’s all about controlled chaos just like the montages on our website.

“We wanted to excite all the senses with our lunch so we called on the help of Mivioleta for the divine explosions of colour through the flowers, Palm Beach Candles for our signature They All Hate Us scent and we made sure every guest received a dream gift from the likes of Hermes, Chanel, Celine, Cartier and many more.

“What we especially like about our table is that it is a reflection of who we are and from every angle you discover something from the wonderful world of They All Hate Us.”

The Tabletop Project day 2: Rachel Castle

Christmas is all about gathering together for a feast with your favourite people. Sydney furniture makers Mark Tuckey asked seven of their favourite creatives to create a Christmas table (Some are glitzy, some are glam, some are just plain dotty) and we’re sharing one with you each day this week.

Today, we have artist and bed linen queen Rachel Castle, director of Castle and Things. She used the Tripod Dining Table.

“We need Christmas prep to be quick and easy. We work right up until Christmas Eve, and some customers even drop by the office, and later at night by my house, to pick up orders. I’ve got to say the late last minuters are always the husbands, funny.

“I grab all the circles and offcuts I can from the office and on Christmas morning simply lay the table and then colour everything up with bits and bobs of paper and tinsel and streamers.

“A little spot, funny, totally puts whimsy into anything. My family however, are probably a little over the spot situation. Tough luck peoples, it’s just how we rock ‘n roll! At least I buy them nice presents to make up for it.”

The Tabletop Project day 1: Louella Tuckey

Christmas is all about gathering together for a feast with your favourite people. Sydney furniture makers Mark Tuckey asked seven of their favourite creatives to create a Christmas table (Some are glitzy, some are glam, some are just plain dotty) and we’re sharing one with you each day this week.

Louella Tuckey is co-owner and creative director of Mark Tuckey. She has used the Wrap Dining Table.

“We believe that Christmas is all about love,” she says. “Well actually, we think life is all about love so Christmas is just a great excuse to shout it out. We love to keep it low-key and pared back, pretty much what we state in our furniture. No fuss, no frills but enough detail to show the love.

“I’ve put together a super simple table that says ‘peace, love and a little bit of greenery’. I’m not good with tinsel, it makes me twitch, so I’ve opted for foliage instead. Delicate single flowers, green stems and leaves and a few nice woody bits.

“Our daughters would love a bit of spangle so little white fairy lights on the twiggy silver birch tree pretty much do the trick. That’s Christmas for us here at Mark Tuckey.”

“I wanted to be able to show people who don’t know what we do what Mark Tuckey does, and a picture is worth a thousand words,” Marks says. “A film is even better!” And he’s right…

Interviews

“There’s not a day when I don’t just want to make things.” An interview with Rachel Castle

You probably already know Rachel Castle’s sellout pokadot pillow cases, velvet round cushions and colourful artwork. If you’ve seen the saying Put The Love In The Coconut around the place, you’ve seen her happy creations for her label CASTLE.

I’m delighted to finally interview Rachel for Interiors Addict but it’s taken a while because her life, by her own admission, is a little hectic, like most creatives I’d say. Also, her work is so popular that she can’t make enough of it (“I get really cranky customers writing ‘BUT EVERYTHING’S SOLDDDD,’ which is great, but I often feel so bad I’m not making things quick enough!”).

Whether she’s inspired or frustrated though, there’s never a day when Rachel doesn’t want to just make things. “Inspiration is a funny old thing. It comes in the night time when it’s a complete shag to get out of bed and write it down, why is that?! I think the thing for me is to keep it real, to say what I want to say rather than what I think others might like/not like me to say. Having said that I keep the language well and truly nice, unlike in real life!”

While her work is always vibrant and colourful, that isn’t a conscious decision. “I just know when something looks right to me. With inspiration I think there is an equal part frustration. I am just as frustrated as I am inspired at times, which I think keeps me busy and making things constantly. Sometimes it works, others it doesn’t. That’s just life and I think being aware of this keeps me moving.” Fashion also influences Rachel hugely and she turns to fashion magazines when her brain “feels dull”.
