Jen’s lust list 07.03.18

I am SO on board with the terrazzo trend and I’m currently lusting after these beautiful Terrazzo Stumps (never has something called a stump looked so good!) from Fenton & Fenton.

They’d be amazing by the bath, as bedside, side tables, and so many places! The only question is, which colour? $350 each. As for that bath (above), there are no words!

Warmer colours are definitely trending this year (think terracotta and mustard) and this new limited edition colour, Desert Rose, from I Love Linen, ticks all the boxes. Founder Lauren Roe says: “This year we’re working on building up a palette of earthy shades with some feminine elements blended into it. It is a really beautiful colour and was inspired by my love of terrazzo, clay and pottery, and those sun drenched warm terrains you find on a European summer escape.” From $34.95.

How gorgeous is this bench, the latest addition to DesignByThem’s Bow collection? Designed by Tom Fereday, the range celebrates the natural undulations of solid timber with its slender backrest and accentuated grain. Each Bow Chair and Bench is carefully crafted with a mirrored grain to highlight the sweeping backrest. From $4,340 for the bench.

I recently discovered the work of Australian photographic artist Catherine Jensen and I’m hooked! This Octans Hydrangea print (from $55) has gone straight to my lust list!

I hope you liked my latest finds. I’ll be back with more soon.

The Shaynna Blaze x Urban Road Art Collection is here (+ win a signed artwork of your choice!)

A couple of months ago we shared the exciting news that Urban Road and design guru Shaynna Blaze were set to collaborate on an art collection. And now the day has come, with the nature-inspired range available from today!

DZwy6XzDkEy_YfWpRqDC2mYYYqmAYaJfMaGrqc6wrLc,HFHnscFW4KQDiAvRyZCOANrYa4v0-DBhGcKWjurDcJ0,5qKHyXEF6xQPzZMFKkT9O02lx0KceXq8K45LKlBT-JY

Featuring over 20 framed and canvas art prints, the collection is a beautiful mix of colour, mood and texture, influenced by nature in its most extreme forms. “I took my inspiration from the love of stormy skies and sea-scapes and zoning in on details like the micro scales of a butterfly wing,” explains Shaynna. “It was all about colour for this collection.”

While you’d know Shaynna as the resident design expert on The Block and Selling Houses Australia, it’s not just interiors that hold a special place in her heart. “My two preferences are fine arts and interior design so art has always been with me. However, I haven’t picked up the artist brush for a couple of years so the collaboration with Urban Road was a way to get creative with the canvas, without me actually picking up the brush.”

Collaborating over many months, Urban Road let Shaynna take the reins. Involved in all aspects of the design process, she in partnership with Urban Road’s creative director Suzie Atkin, developed a range of unique yet harmonising artworks. “Urban Road were very open to what I wanted,” says Shaynna. “So I came up with the colour palettes (from what I know is working in interiors at the moment) and the subject content of the range and sent Suzie photos and concepts to work with. We then went back and forth with a couple of ideas to flesh out the collection and now we have over 20 pieces (plus more colour options)!”

Now with her art career back in action, Shaynna is keen to keep it going. “I would love to do another collection with Urban Road if this one goes well and maybe if I get some time in the next 12 months I might pick up the brush again myself!”

New print series, Aqua Marine, from Ali McNabney-Stevens

In what is great news for art lovers on a budget, Melbourne’s Ali McNabney-Stevens has released her second run of affordable prints called Aqua Marine.

AliMcNabney-Stevens06

Rather different from the last series, they’re based on a number of ink and watercolour studies Ali did last summer in Helens Bay, her rather faraway home town on the stunning coast of County Down, Northern Ireland.

They are printed on 300gsm natural cotton rag artpaper, with acid free archival pigment inks (in short, these are very high quality prints!). If you don’t have the cash, or the patience, for an Ali original, I highly recommend you snap one up. There are three sizes to choose from: small (33cm x 48cm), medium (61cm x 43cm) and large (61cm x 85cm).

You may have spotted Ali’s work on the last two series of The Block.

Styling by Julia Green and photography by Armelle Habib.

New ‘vintage’ wall hangings from Quercus & Co

Launched last week by Quercus & Co, these colour charts are based on original illustrations by colour theory pioneers like Philipp Otto Runge and Johannes Itten. A must for design nerds if you ask me!

CAT COLOUR CHARTS 2

They feature large scale diagrams handpainted in their own “washy-watercolour” style with handwritten traditional colour descriptions including beauties like Heliotrope, Cochineal, Duck Egg, Celeste, Amaranth, Madder Lake, Paris Green to name a few.
