Urban Road launches three new collections for 2022

Homewares brand Urban Road has launched three new wall art print collections for 2022: Aboriginal Artists, Blooming Botanicas and Candid Thoughts.

Art prints are an easy, affordable and stylish option to enhance any space. The new collection showcases florals in captivating colours and bold geometric shapes in a variety of styles and palettes that perfectly complement any home décor. Urban Road is proudly Australian made, with all artwork is designed and handcrafted right here.

Aboriginal Artists

For lovers of Aboriginal art, these powerful works have been carefully selected to reflect the beauty of the land and strong personal themes. Maria Watson-Trudgett’s contemporary abstract works feature stories of resilience, strength, whilst Amanda Hinkelmann showcases the power of women. Meanwhile, Helen Nungarrayi Reed celebrates the vibrant colours of Ninkuwakal country.

Blooming Botanicas

Blooms are still big in homewares and this widespread array of artwork showcasing Australian natives will bring an explosion of life and colour to any space. The collection includes waratahs, banksias and eucalyptus.

Candid Thoughts

Modern art lovers after contemporary décor will be drawn to these geometric-inspired abstract pieces. Curved and straight lines create an interlocking effect in key pieces evoking a sense of flow and movement, alongside works of bold geometric shapes. This collection is filled with pieces that complement various interior design styles.

Aerial view inspires Urban Road & Shaynna Blaze latest

Between her TV hosting duties and super successful interior design career, Shaynna Blaze spends a lot of time on planes, which is what provided the fodder for her latest collaboration with Urban Road. “When Suzie and I decided to do our third collection, I knew exactly what it was going to be. It’s inspired by my years of travel around Australia and overseas – staring out of a plane window, and taking in the different shapes, patterns and palettes of the spaces below,” says Shaynna.

Urban Road x Shaynna Blaze collection

Titled ‘In Plane View,’ the collection is a series of aerial landscapes – a celebration of nature from a topographical point of view. “This collection, I can really see, can go in everybody’s house, and in every room,” says Shaynna of the versatile range.

Urban Road’s Suzie Atkin with Shaynna Blaze

“The collection is more lifestyle, and it’s pattern, it’s texture, and it’s also about micro-snaps. If you look at a landscape as a whole, you’re looking at the big picture, but because we’re zooming in on areas, you can also imagine a farmer working in a field, you can imagine a car driving by, or even a surfer in the ocean. I like people to look at artwork and put themselves in that place, and I feel like these pieces do that.”

Urban Road x Shaynna Blaze collection

Comprised of 12 new designs, the collection, out today, features warm, earthy sands and cool, blue oceans alongside vibrant jewel-toned lakes and fields. Think aerial snapshots of deserts, oceans, fields and plains.

New Urban Road collection draws on nature & nostalgia

Based almost exclusively around nature, the Spring/Summer 2018 collection of affordable art from Urban Road is called ‘Reminisce’ and it certainly does have a warm, nostalgic vibe. There’s plenty of blooms and foliage alongside ocean vistas and depictions of the night sky and the palette runs the full colour spectrum too, meaning there’s plenty of choice.

'Flourish' print
The statement ‘Flourish’ print features a magnolia unfurling

Monkey Mia print

“Urban Road’s latest release feels like sifting through old photographs. Starlit skies, sleepy seashores and sunburned landscapes – a breathtaking recollection of memories unaffected by time, an invitation to Reminisce,” says Suzie Atkin, the creative director of Urban Road.

'Australian Flora' print
I love the fabulous palette of this ‘Australian Flora’ print

Looking to the Australian landscape, there’s plenty of intricate native flora and vast landscapes captured with light and colour. “A sense of timelessness is felt in constellations, reflected in the facets of semi-precious stones; blurred mountain ranges standing soft, yet resolute; the unfading beauty of black and white icons,” says Suzie in reference to one of the prints – a black and white painterly depiction of Deborah Harry.

Deborah Harry stars in the ‘Call Me’ print

'Fire Opal' print
‘Fire Opal’ print

“While each artwork stands perfectly in solitude, the culmination of pieces is a collection that assembles itself like a show reel of memories, created to be relived over and over again,” says Suzie. Standouts for me include the ‘Australian Flora’ and ‘Fire Opal’ print – I love their gorgeous burgundy shades. The Australiana-inspired pieces such as the ‘Coolibah’ signal a fresh direction for the brand too.

Aside from affordable art, the Urban Road collection now includes  home decor items, acrylic artworks, and, most recently, a diverse poster collection. All up, the brand’s catalogue now boasts over 1000 items.

Urban Road’s autumn/winter collection + discount code!

When designing Urban Road’s Autumn/Winter 2018 collection Continuum, creative director Suzie Atkins wanted to create something akin to ‘easy listening’ artwork. “I was inspired by the mid-century modern design movement which was very soft, minimal and inoffensive,” says Suzie of the brand’s new range that boasts organic curves, simple lines and more than a nod to Abstract Expressionism. Interiors Addict readers get an exclusive first look today!

Urban Road 'Discord' print
Urban Road’s ‘Discord’ print

Inspired by the work of artists Ellsworth Kelly, Victor Pasmore, Jean Arp and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, the collection is also super versatile given its muted colour palette and focus on form, shape and texture.

Urban Road ‘Desolate’ and ‘Wildness’ prints

There’s plenty of green on display too including two fabulous photographic feather prints that are a favourite of mine – I love their bold, oversized texture.

'Pompon' and 'Green Jay' prints
‘Pompon’ and ‘Green Jay’ prints

“We also really dove into oil paints with this collection – we adore the texture and mood that they add to what are essentially really simple images,” says Suzey of the range that features a second drop due to arrive in a month or two. Suzey remains tight-lipped other than to say there will be some exciting new items Urban Road hasn’t offered before.

The pelican print
The ‘Pelican’ print

Of her favourite design from the new range, Suzie loves the pair of minimalist prints ‘Solace’ and ‘Succor.’ “They really embody the inspiration behind Continuum. I love how playful they are, without compromising elegance or softness. The shapes are interesting and overall the artworks are very versatile. I’m looking forward to seeing how these are styled in our customers’ homes,” says Suzie.

Urban Road 'Solace' and 'Succor'
‘Solace’ and ‘Succor’ make a gorgeous pair

Another collection highlight for Suzie is a black and white photographic design called ‘Stripes’ that features a pair of graphic zebras. “The black and white photography is a really exciting new path for us, and we’re excited to see how it takes off. I feel like it taps into that edgier, more editorial market. As soon as I saw ‘Stripes’ I knew I had to have it! Again, I think it’s a striking, yet playful piece. It’s definitely a conversation starter,” says Suzie.

Urban Road’s new collection an homage to the Australian summer

As I write this it’s pouring, my feet are hovering dangerously close to the fire and I am debating whether I should ever brace the outdoors again. So while those sweet, sun-kissed days are out of reach, I’m going to live vicariously through Urban Road’s latest collection Rhapsody, an homage to the Australian summer.

Drawing inspiration from brightly coloured beach umbrellas, toes dipped in cool blue water and moments spent watching sunsets with a cocktail (or two), the collection is a harmony of textured abstracts, intricately illustrated watercolours and photographic montages of the ocean’s dynamic ebbs and flows.

This collection also sees the release of Urban Road’s first ever wallpaper collection. Staying true to the brand’s iconic style, the range carries the motifs, shapes and moods that have popularised their collections to date.

The brainchild of self-taught artist and illustrator Suzie Atkin, Urban Road has been sprucing up the walls of homes since 2010. Affordable and high-quality, the artworks are easy-to-match with both contemporary and traditional settings.

From humble beginnings Urban Road now boasts over 1000 products – from its signature premium artworks, to cushions, rugs, acrylic art pieces and poster prints.

The Rhapsody collection will be available for purchase from 24 July.

Urban Road will be at Decor + Design in Melbourne this week, stand D26.

Currently coveting: Moody, oversized florals

Eschewing any nanna associations, florals have never looked as stylish as they do this season. And as with most things in design, it’s all about the execution. Large in scale and in moody hues, we’ll admit that we’re pretty smitten with this bold, romantic aesthetic.

Linen House Marselha quilt cover set: Channeling the paintings of the Dutch masters, this quilt cover features oversized blooms on one side and a plain grey reverse allowing you to mix it up. $199.95.

Flowers for Kate hydrangea linen cushion: We featured the botanical photographic work of the talented Katie Clulow recently and this glorious cushion forms part of her collection. $139.

Bonnie & Neil Banksia timber screen: Great for the demarcation of spaces (particularly in small apartments), this timber screen is even more beautiful in the flesh. $2400.

Heatherly Design Portobello bedhead in Bloom linen: Immerse yourself in a field of flowers before drifting off to sleep. From $850.

Urban Road Rosewater canvas print with black shadow box: Simple and stunning. From $215.

Ellie Cashman ‘Dark Floral II’ black desaturated wallpaper: Blooming beautiful, it’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of this Dutch artist’s work as that’s my bedroom below! From $125 plus shipping.

Art Club Concept ‘Into The Night’ framed print: Part of a collaboration with interior stylist Kerrie-Ann Jones, this affordable art print makes quite the statement. From $199.95.

Urban Road’s new poster collection has a fresh, young vibe

Arguably its most contemporary collection yet, Urban Road’s new poster collection landed in our inbox this week and we are rather taken. From photography to graphic design and painting, the collection includes nature scenes, plants, flowers, abstracts, animals, typography and the female form and it’s priced from a very affordable $34!

Blush-hued gallery wall posters – we love!

“We wanted to collate pieces that were edgy, fun, graphic and playful. The collection is really versatile and suits a lot of different on-trend decors such as minimalism, Scandi, coastal or the Hamptons,” says Urban Road’s creative director Suzie Atkin.

Botanical-themed posters reflect Pantone’s colour of the year ‘Greenery’

The colours are very on-trend too with black, white, grey, blush pink, soft blue and leafy green in the mix. In addition, the posters can be purchased unframed or framed in white, black or natural solid wood, and they come ready to hang. Premium shatterproof acrylic protects the poster prints too.

These super sweet animal art posters are ideal for a girl’s nursery

“There are gorgeous animal art posters and inspirational, comforting typography prints which would look amazing in either a nursery or an older tween’s bedroom,” says Suzie who thinks the collection is perfect for younger family members.

Geometric themed gallery wall posters

A departure for the brand that is known for its canvas artworks, the posters are giclée printed with archival inks on high-quality cotton rag, natural white, matte art paper and they come in eight sizes, ranging from small (20 x 25cm) to larger scale prints (75 x 100cm).

Peachy hues abound on this gallery wall

A self-taught artist and illustrator, Suzie established Urban Road in 2010 when she noticed a gap in the market for original, affordable canvas art prints. The range has since expanded to include complementary cushions and rugs which take the guesswork out of styling your home.

The prints are available from Monday. Shop online

Exclusive first look at Urban Road’s new collection

Launching tomorrow, Urban Road’s Autumn/Winter 2017 collection ‘Illusion’ is a sophisticated, moody range and Interiors Addict readers are a lucky bunch as you get an exclusive first-look, right here, now!

Urban Road ‘Sapphire’ box framed print. Navy is massive for winter and that suspended gem stone ticks all the right boxes!

The 96-piece collection explores a range of design motifs including suspended gem stones, bold abstracts, intricate flowers, a retro-inspired photographic series and geometric lines – the overall feeling is rather dream-like. And in an interesting twist, the affordable art brand has revealed that its social media following inspired the new range.

Urban Road Sea Stack box framed print

“Urban Road’s online followers definitely influence the collections, they’re our virtual family who provide us with inspiration as well as the spaces that we help decorate. At Urban Road, we are big believers in community and connecting through love of interiors and design. We get a real buzz being tagged on social media and seeing Urban Road products in the space and styling of our customers,” says Urban Road creative director Suzie Atkin of the new range that is complemented by a series of velvet and faux leather cushions too.

Urban Road ‘Materialise’ and ‘Glacier’ framed prints

“My favourite piece from the new collection is Delphine, I wanted to create a portrait collection that was powerful, yet graceful and feminine. This was a real challenge for me creatively trying to find the balance between striking imagery, while preserving the beauty in the female form. I feel the result is  a delicate and intriguing display of beauty,” says Suzie.

Urban Road ‘Delphine’ box framed print – Suzie’s favourite from the new range

Whether you choose to frame your print in glass or stretch it over canvas, it’s the flexibility and affordability that has always appealed about the Urban Road offering. That and the ability to create a high-end look on a relatively modest budget.

Jen’s lust list 21.02.17

Although Seb will be in a big boy bed before we know it, and the days of feeding him milk are long gone, I absolutely LOVE the new Incy x Hobbe Rocking Chair. And frankly, why should parents be the only ones who get to have this gorgeous chair?! It would look equally at home in a living room as a nursery! And it comes in indigo or blush velvet with a rose gold finish. It couldn’t be more me! $1,299.

While we’re talking gold and blush, how gorgeous is this new Palm Springs Ottoman from Freedom?! I bought the navy version at the weekend ($299) and it also comes in grey.

Long time readers will know we’re big fans of Urban Road for affordable, on trend artwork. The latest collection, out next week, has some great pieces. This (Sea Stack) is one of my favourites. Find the new stuff at Urban Road from 28 February! We’ll share an exclusive first look at more of the new range on Monday.

This week I’m also loving everything from Tara Dennis’ latest Aquitaine Collection. Living in Wahroonga, I’m lucky to have the Tara Dennis Store on my doorstep and it is far too tempting, let me tell you! If you haven’t been yet, you need to pay a visit!

Available at the Tara Dennis Store, David Jones and leading independent retailers from later this month.

I’ll be back with more discoveries next Tuesday!

Affordable art – Shaynna Blaze & Urban Road collaborate again

On the back of last year’s super successful collaboration, interior design guru and The Block personality Shaynna Blaze has reunited with Urban Road yet again to create another fabulous range of on-trend and affordable art just begging to fill our blank walls.

UR_SB16-101_P_Escape_IMG_4144
Shaynna Blaze’s ‘Escape’ print – part of the ‘Flight’ collection

Titled ‘ELEMENT,’ the spring/summer 2016 range of original art prints and cushions is broken down into three distinct collections – ‘Beyond the Cracks,’ ‘Flight’ and ‘Inner Child.’  The ‘Flight’ collection features soaring fabrics designed to evoke the feeling of floating. We love the emerald colour way – a strong colour theme throughout the new range.

UR-403_Altitude_IMG_4277

Urban Road’s trademark tropical prints and abstracts feature alongside a photographic series too – with a particular focus on nature, the latest range includes emerald oceans, blustery blue skies and dry desert-scapes.

UR-404_Swell Emerald_IMG_4701

“I am always captivated by a stormy sky and raging ocean, and find myself lost in their ever-changing shapes. The colours after a storm seem almost magical, and it’s these moments I wanted to play with, introducing light and depth to activate life in each piece,” says Shaynna who collaborated with Urban Road’s creative director Suzie Atkin on the range.

UR_SB16-112_Dancing Superhero_IMG_0456
A design from Shaynna’s ‘Inner Child’ range

The ‘Inner Child’ collection is perfect for the pint-sized among us – pretty, pastel watercolours are paired with whimsical quotes. We think they’d make a great addition to a nursery or older child’s room too.

UR-452_Nature’s Veil-Dusk_IMG_4685

The ‘ELEMENT’ range features plenty of other fabulous prints – we’re particularly fond of the tropical bird design that has been created in shades of blue (a nice twist on the jungle theme) and the trio of minimalist over-sized insect illustrations too.

UR-412_Zenneth_IMG_3899

As with season’s past, the new range is available in the brand’s usual line-up of glass framed art prints, stretched canvas box framed art prints and cushions too.

The Shaynna Blaze x Urban Road Art Collection is here (+ win a signed artwork of your choice!)

A couple of months ago we shared the exciting news that Urban Road and design guru Shaynna Blaze were set to collaborate on an art collection. And now the day has come, with the nature-inspired range available from today!

DZwy6XzDkEy_YfWpRqDC2mYYYqmAYaJfMaGrqc6wrLc,HFHnscFW4KQDiAvRyZCOANrYa4v0-DBhGcKWjurDcJ0,5qKHyXEF6xQPzZMFKkT9O02lx0KceXq8K45LKlBT-JY

Featuring over 20 framed and canvas art prints, the collection is a beautiful mix of colour, mood and texture, influenced by nature in its most extreme forms. “I took my inspiration from the love of stormy skies and sea-scapes and zoning in on details like the micro scales of a butterfly wing,” explains Shaynna. “It was all about colour for this collection.”

DXSmdAZ08Ts3GT87HpLkazNrmf370tNBY7HXPABs-gM,8j1g3YrQKgBZZBaPcAFho6iAO_AHw1NQwWa2pRKdK8c

While you’d know Shaynna as the resident design expert on The Block and Selling Houses Australia, it’s not just interiors that hold a special place in her heart. “My two preferences are fine arts and interior design so art has always been with me. However, I haven’t picked up the artist brush for a couple of years so the collaboration with Urban Road was a way to get creative with the canvas, without me actually picking up the brush.”

dY2sJeJitgDrKmE5idCEQu8vUq7YiTgADr3iuAw6tYA,gcXPpX9jyCvTCIynpv3CEqVWAurtnZQBU7g86_BvZgA

Collaborating over many months, Urban Road let Shaynna take the reins. Involved in all aspects of the design process, she in partnership with Urban Road’s creative director Suzie Atkin, developed a range of unique yet harmonising artworks. “Urban Road were very open to what I wanted,” says Shaynna. “So I came up with the colour palettes (from what I know is working in interiors at the moment) and the subject content of the range and sent Suzie photos and concepts to work with. We then went back and forth with a couple of ideas to flesh out the collection and now we have over 20 pieces (plus more colour options)!”

Now with her art career back in action, Shaynna is keen to keep it going. “I would love to do another collection with Urban Road if this one goes well and maybe if I get some time in the next 12 months I might pick up the brush again myself!”
