We love: Langdon Ltd’s latest colourful, boho collection

It’s no secret that we love a bit of colour and bohemian styling here at Interiors Addict and while it’s a trend that waxes and wanes in a fashion sense, the boho interior has become something of a modern classic. And if you’re a fan of that aesthetic too, look no further than Langdon Ltd‘s latest collection ‘This is Love!’ which walks that delicate line between earthy and stylish in a superb way.

Designed by sisters Phoebe and Delia Langdon, Langdon Ltd’s latest offering is brimming with gorgeous pastels, metallic flashes, geometric motifs and an artisanal vibe which is no surprise given much of the range is handwoven in Rajasthan, India.

The Casablanca rug in peach is on our want list!

The range of colourful cushions, rugs, throws and bags are designed by the sisters before being brought to life in India – we love the way they merge traditional techniques with a modern yet homespun aesthetic. “We love making beautiful things and all of our goods are made in India using traditional techniques and the finest materials and metallic threads,” says Delia.

A Langdon Ltd purchase is an ethical one too as the company employ Indian artisans and makers, helping them develop a sustainable income for themselves and their families. “We spend a lot of time in India and wander off the beaten path to immerse ourselves in the local communities to spend time with the artisans behind our brand,” says Delia.

2

Lavender, mint, rose, lemon, foam blues and dusty metallics sit in beautiful contrast to the natural jute tones – we love the Ziggy Zest cushion which pairs candy pink and mint with black. The rugs are also on the top of of our wish list – the shaggy collection is as 70’s-influenced as you would expect and we love the pom poms, tassels and fringing accents on the rest of the rug range too.

The carry bags are pretty stunning also – combining cotton, metallic thread and bamboo handles, some of them are adorned with sugary-coloured tassels also.

Sydneysiders can make an appointment at Langdon Ltd’s showroom to discuss any design needs, peruse the materials and colours and you can even design your own rug. We love!

Real homes: weatherboard where small, colourful living reigns

Paula and Pete Mills are very well-travelled, having lived in 12 homes and three countries in their 16 years of marriage. So clearly it would take something extremely special to have them stay put… well let me tell you, their gorgeous Melbourne home doesn’t disappoint!

Situated 25 km out of the CBD, this weatherboard backs onto Warrandyte State Park. Surrounded by bush on all sides, Paula immediately fell in love, and as a result they’ve only done minimal work in their five years of living there. “We just made small changes as we thought we may do a big extension one day,” she explains. “We took down two internal walls and opened up the kitchen and living room and then we pretty much whitewashed everything! I find I need a clean palette when I start a project.”

12961573144_fd07935d28_z While the backdrop of the house may be white, the home is the opposite of minimalist, filled to the brim with a mixture of both vintage and modern pieces and beautiful colours, pattern and textures. “My style changes, but I’d say it’s currently modern bohemian. I love Indian and Moroccan patterns; really I’m all about colour and pattern. I can’t get enough of it! But then I do also like the Scandinavian look, which you can see in the while floors. So I guess there’s a bit of everything.”

Finding her furniture and wares from all around the world (they’re both originally from South Africa and have also lived in England), Paula isn’t one for expensive high street purchases, believing her taste changes too much to invest in something that she knows she could never love forever. Rather, her favourite purchases are from quirkier spots, like junk shops, deceased estates and eBay.

“One of the pieces I get the most comments on is my pink dining table. It was a really lucky find. We went to a deceased estate auction in an old 1950s house and everything was being auctioned. I saw this pink table in the pool room and it was the last thing to be auctioned for the day, but I was determined to get it and I did!” Other great finds include their distressed fireplace — found in a junk shop on a camping trip — their living room couch off eBay and two classic couches Paula got reupholstered.

Also living here are Paula and Pete’s three girls (eight, 10 and 12), who all share the large bedroom downstairs. If it’s anything like my childhood home, I imagine this being absolute mayhem, but for Paula and her family it actually works! “We’re very drawn to the tiny house movement. We love that kind of thinking that you can learn so much from each other having to share a space. Also, it’s a big room, they’ve each got their own space and as I keep telling them, I shared a room with my sister when I lived at home! We um and ah about whether we really need more space or if it just some luxury we think that’s owed to us?”

However, what did matter to Paula was that she had enough space to run her stationery and art business, Sweet William Prints. Having transformed what was originally a bedroom into a studio, Paula gets the opportunity to work freely, spend time with the kids and, as she likes to say, have a messy room! “I feel very grateful to have my own studio. I can leave all my pens out and don’t have to pack away all my mess. It’s also got all this stuff stuck up on the wall — almost like a large pin board that will change all the time, whatever I am excited by.”

Sydney stylist Andrea Millar launches luxe lifestyle concept store

Bringing over 17 years of interiors and fashion experience, stylist and journalist Andrea Millar is today launching Australia’s newest concept store, Casa Boheme.

IMGP5185

The online store will also be accompanied by a bricks-and-mortar counterpart, which opens in the Sydney suburb of Balmain on Saturday 26 April. Stocking a range of locally and internationally sourced homewares, fashion, gifts and accessories, as well as vintage and new furniture, Casa Boheme aims to be the shopping destination for the modern bohemian woman.

“I just felt it was time to bring my experience of gathering, hunting and creating together in one place,” explains Andrea. “I’ve searched to find things I really adore, bringing the ethical and beautiful together.”

 CasaBoheme-Luandress-2

Casa Boheme (which translates in Spanish and French to Bohemian House) will in true concept store style, feature a diverse range of lines that all have a bohemian chic thread in common.

“I saw an opportunity to offer Australians a taste of the concept store model that is so prevalent in other major cities, but is rather scarce in Sydney,” says Andrea. “The strength of the concept store model is that it offers a highly curated range of products that celebrate a lifestyle and is a break from the formula that drives so much of retail.”

Ex Country Road stylist starts online homewares store Sage and Clare

Phoebe Bell threw in her job as a stylist for Country Road to pursue her dream of an online homewares store with an emphasis on the handmade, bohemian and artisanal.

Soft Furnishings 10 (20)

I already want half the things she’s selling, and when they’re as beautifully styled and photographed as this, it’s very easy to buy into the look! The store is only a week old, so my advice is to get in quick before everyone wants one of everything!

Lookbook S x C - Version 2 (5)

With a small stash of savings and partner Chris’s support, Phoebe headed for India, where she designed and collected homewares and accessories to start Sage and Clare.
