Luxury fashion retailer Matches launches into homewares

London-based luxury fashion portal Matches (if you’re unfamiliar, it’s akin to Net-a-Porter) has branched into the homewares space with the launch of a homewares studio that features a tight edit of creations from fashion luminaries such as Gucci, Peter Pilotto, Preen and Missoni. While certainly not cheap, the line-up of cushions, throws, candles and tabletop items make for great statement pieces.

Peter Pilotto painted ceramic plate: The fashion designer’s foray into homewares has been much anticipated and this painted ceramic plate is made in the UK and recalls the colourful designs that made him famous. $146.

Missoni Home Togo cotton and linen-blend cushion: The Italian fashion house has been decorating interiors since 1983 and its iconic zig zag stripe is an enduring style. $418.

Gucci Herbarium crockery collection: Made in Italy from porcelain, this range is emblazoned with Gucci’s Herbarium floral print and trimmed with black lacquer. The collection includes a teapot, dessert plates, sugar bowl, cream jug, coffee pot, dinner plates, a serving platter and more. Prices start from $240.

La DoubleJ Editions Geometric-print linen napkin set: Made in Italy with an archive-sourced print, these bold napkins would look fabulous against all white. $160 (set of six).

Preen by Thornton Bregazzi floral-print silk-satin cushion: Much like the label’s fashion creations, this cushion unites two contrasting floral prints to dramatic effect. The ruffle border trim is a lovely, feminine touch. $312.

Raawii Strom ceramic jug: For Scandi lovers, this gorgeous jug boasts a bold geometric shape, gorgeous colour and is the work of Copenhagen-based brand Raawii. There’s a bowl and vase in the range too. $100.

Gucci hand-embroidered velvet cushion: The eye-watering price aside, this cushion is one of the key items from Gucci Décor’s debut collection and combines a hand-embroidered cat motif surrounded by yellow flowers on pink velvet with a braided trim and tassels. The back features a contrasting floral jacquard. $1560.

La DoubleJ Editions mosaic-print porcelain plates: These dessert plates are decorated with a 1920s flooring mosaic print found in the archives of Italian silk manufacturer Mantero. Made in Italy, the gold trim really sets off the design. $142 (set of two).

In Australia we are lucky enough to have amazing homegrown designers, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate the work of our neighbours overseas. Below are our favourite cult international brands and all the information on where you can get your hands on them.

Designers Guild: Established in 1970 by Tricia Guild, the iconic British brand designs and wholesales furnishing fabrics, wallcoverings, upholstery and bed and bath collections. Known for its brilliant use of colour, pattern and texture, Aussies can purchase Designers Guild homewares through its recently launched online store.

Designers Guild

Missoni Home: The famous Italian fashion house Missoni took its extraordinary textiles into the home in 1983. Featuring an explosion of colour, pattern and luxurious texture, the Missoni Home collection embraces every part of life from bedding and towels to rugs, upholstery and furniture. Available in Australia through Spence and Lyda.

Missoni Home

Pottery Barn: Built on the idea that home furnishings should be exceptional in comfort, quality, style and value, the US brand has quickly become an Aussie favourite. Originally founded in 1948, it features exclusive products, many designed by in-house artists and crafted in the USA. Pottery Barn has stores across Australia and an online shop.

Pottery Barn

Cath Kidston: As the home of modern vintage, the British brand has the same mission today as when it began in 1993: to make cheerful, practical products that bring a smile to customers’ faces. Jonathan Adler: Creating luxe furniture and homewares that are seriously designed, but don’t take themselves too seriously, Jonathan Adler began in 1993. With a look that is all about modern American glamour, the US brand has surprisingly humble beginning; with Jonathan (the man not the brand!) launching the business to pursue his first love: pottery. Available in Australia through Coco Republic.

Jonathan Adler

Marimekko: The Finnish design house is celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colours. Founded in 1951, Marimekko is said to be one of the world’s first real lifestyle brands combining fashion and home decoration into one unique point of view. Top 5 picks for the perfect tea party for one

With Sydney’s current weather closer resembling rainy London than sunny down under, there’s no better time to curl up inside with a good book and – my personal favourite – a great cup of tea. Below are my top picks for enjoying tea time.

Fullscreen-capture-11252014-15654-AM_bmp

Bodum’s Pavina glasses ($29.95 for 350ml set of 2) are my absolute favourite cups ever! The mouth-blown double wall design is genius – perfect for hot and iced tea alike, the heat resistant glass both insulates and prevents condensation. Plus they look seriously cool – or hot, whichever you prefer.

Missoni-Home-Zig-Zag

If you’ve read my towel piece, you may have noticed a colourful pattern (pun intended). What better way to pair a clean set of tea glasses than with the Missoni Home Zig Zag teapot ($395)? Luxurious yet contemporary, the Italian made porcelain pot is the ideal companion for both the classy high tea party, and the casual night in.

tea-header

To utilise this classy teapot you need… tea, of course! T2 tea (from $14 for 100g) is my ultimate go to – the selection is jaw dropping, the packaging is super cute, and the tea itself never disappoints. I will drink anything from black to oolong to a fruit tisane, so it would be impossible to choose just one. Melbourne Breakfast, Madagascan Vanilla, Apple Crumble and Tummy Tea are some that spring to mind, but their range is ever growing, and there are plenty I (and you!) have yet to try.

Kaikado_1_grande

To stop tea from losing its magic, I store mine in an air tight canister. If you can get your hands on the Kaikado Tea Caddy, you won’t be disappointed. Simple yet timeless, the 400g canister is handmade in Japan, comes in brass, tin and copper, and will match everything in your kitchen.

No tea session is complete without chocolate. Bahen & Co chocolate blocks are one of a kind. Produced ethically in Margaret River (Western Australia) using vintage chocolate making equipment and only two ingredients (cacao and cane sugar), they feature antique botanical printed packaging, and a range of flavours including Almond & Sea Salt, Chilli, and Cracked Coffee. These babies look almost too good to eat. Almost.

The focus for the cushions is texture, from the delicate sheer fabrics Masal and Paramount, to the knitted Ridley and Rocco in signature monochrome and multicolour tones. Also included is a limited edition cushion Roxas, designed especially for Amara, which features a beautiful and refined print.
