Stylist Steve Cordony’s stunning Rosedale Farm is on Airbnb!

Hundreds of thousands follow stylish Australian stylist Steve Cordony on Instagram, drooling over his picture perfect country property Rosedale Farm (I’ll admit I’m one of them and I’ve also been lucky enough to visit in person). And now, after years of hard work and renovation by Steve and partner Michael Booth, it can finally be a reality to stay there, as it lists on Airbnb. And it’ll only cost you $25 a night. Say what?!

Steve Cordony in one of Rosedale’s farm stays

Design lovers will have the chance to enjoy the ultimate Easter holiday in style, with an exclusive Airbnb stay at the idyllic estate in Orange, NSW. Steve is inviting residents of Australia to his historic Rosedale Farm property for a four-night stay from Thursday 6 April to Monday 10 April, for just $25 AUD* per night as part of a special promotion.

Dating back to 1877, Rosedale Farm is a restored estate located just seven kilometres from Orange in the central tablelands of New South Wales. A country stay to be remembered, Rosedale Farm’s main homestead features six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a formal dining room, lounge, library and kitchen. The homestead and two farm stays are positioned amongst the estate’s lavish, lushly landscaped gardens.

Every guest room has been individually designed by Steve in his signature contemporary European style, layered with an Italian farmhouse sensibility, creating a uniquely luxurious accommodation in the heart of the countryside.

As one of Australia’s leading interior and lifestyle stylists, Steve is passionate about design as a means of bringing people together to create memories with loved ones. His renovation journey of Rosedale Farm amassed a significant following, with many Aussies inspired by the impeccable attention to detail, subtle nods to the property’s heritage, and mix of both contemporary and antique furnishings.

“I created Rosedale Farm with the goal of turning this incredible historic property into a one-of-a-kind destination for guests to connect and create memories in. I love the unique and personalised experiences Airbnb hosts offer their guests, whether it be fresh flowers throughout the home or a bottle of champagne to kick off the celebrations, and Rosedale Farm is filled with special touches. I am thrilled to partner with Airbnb on hosting an unforgettable four-night stay this Easter.”

Over the past two years, many Australians found comfort in exploring their own backyards and discovering the natural beauty found across Australia. Regional bookings now make up almost 30% of nights booked on Airbnb in Australia, and when comparing the second quarter of 2022 with the pre-pandemic second quarter of 2019, regional bookings are up about 60% in Australia.

With Orange a must-visit NSW destination, this Easter season is the perfect time to explore the region and the many attractions that make it so special including the wine and produce on offer and  support local hosts while injecting much needed tourism dollars to help support small businesses and local economies.

Susan Wheeldon, Airbnb’s country manager for Australia and New Zealand, said: “We are excited to partner with Steve to create something truly special at Rosedale Farm and highlight the benefits of rural tourism.”

The unforgettable Steve Cordony four-night Easter country getaway is open for bookings on 27 February at 9am AEDT from airbnb.com.au/stevecordony and can be booked on a first come first serve basis. Set a reminder now!

The two Rosedale farm stays will be available to book ongoing from airbnb.com.au/stevecordony from 27 February, 2023. We anticipate it will cost a lot more than $25 a night!

*Exclusive of fees including booking and service fees.

Mind boggling Airbnb ideas to become reality in Australia

From tens of thousands of entries from around the world, 100 aspiring designers, architects, and DIYers from 23 countries have been chosen to bring their crazy ideas to life and share in the US$10million OMG! Fund from Airbnb. And four of them are in Australia!

Sitemap for bubble on top of a mountain

The winning ideas stood out for their unique and inspiring design, sustainable consideration, and novel ways of offering immersive guest experiences. Recipients will each receive up to US$100,000 to make their fantastical creations possible.

Four Australians have won a share in the ‘OMG Fund’ and over the course of the next 10 months, will design, construct and outfit their dreams to be guest-ready by next summer. And here they are…

Eco-Igloo by Catherine W

The Eco-Igloo dome home will be built using 6,000 handmade aircrete bricks. Made up of four large domes which blend seamlessly into nature, the property is perfect for Aussie climates and it is a game changer to help more people achieve beautiful and affordable builds.

Luxury bubble on top of a mountain by Timothy H

Inspired by a sky full of stars and the power of reconnecting with nature, a stay in this luxury bubble will make you feel like you are floating on top of the world. Located a stone’s throw from the world-famous Wilsons Promontory National Park in Gippsland, Victoria, the bubble is also eco-friendly and sustainable, with the deck made out of recycled timber, and equipped with energy-saving appliances, low-flush toilets and low-flow showers using tank water.

Model of luxury bubble on top of a mountain

“My inspiration came after sleeping under the stars in a small tent when I was in France last year,” said Timothy. “The idea was to create an out of the ordinary, yet unique and accessible experience for guests. The result is a transparent bubble high up on a mountain top with 360-degree views of the night sky, fields and oceans below.”

Kangaroom floating pod by Matt D

“We want to provide guests with a unique Aussie experience, to deliver a genuine connection to the landscape, and at the same time, inspire sustainable living and make eco-tourism mainstream,” said Matt from Melbourne on his Kangaroom floating pod idea.

Model of Kangaroom

Utilising almost 80% glass to seamlessly connect guests with their natural surroundings, Kangaroom will be designed using modular pods to create a floating Airbnb stay situated on a kangaroo playground in Daylesford, Victoria. The property hosts an abundance of wildlife and will act as a ‘reverse zoo’ where guests reside in a comfortable and luxurious space, while being close to nature. The multi-level structure will levitate over panoramic views of the kangaroo habitat, leaving guests transformed with a new appreciation for the environment and empowered to make changes in their own lives for a sustainable future.

Ultimate Airbnb on plane at an airfield by Mary C

After saving two Boeing 737 aircrafts from being scrapped, OMG! Fund recipient Mary dismantled and transported them to York, WA. Guests will be able to stay in one of these aircrafts at an airfield, while the other will be used as a tour experience. The aircraft will come with two en suites and can accommodate up to six guests.

Australia’s best designed Airbnb was once a US barn

The annual Airbnb Host Awards have just been announced, shining a light on Australia’s top holiday home hosts. Several fabulous properties have been spotlighted but there are two that really piqued our interest – the ‘Best Designed Stay’ and ‘Best Unique Stay’ are giving us serious wanderlust.

“I was blown away by the finalists included in this year’s Airbnb’s Host Awards and the task of choosing a winner was incredibly difficult. It is clear these hosts put a lot of love and effort into their listings, and it certainly pays off,” says Airbnb Superhost Merrydith Callegari who sits on Airbnb’s global host advisory board.

Coombs Hill Barn, Australia’s ‘Best Designed Stay’ for 2022

The ‘Best Designed Stay’ was awarded to Coombs Hill Barn which is in the Victorian town of Merrijig. A 160-year-old barn from America, the home’s owners got the idea while travelling in the US where they found an old barn, had it dismantled and shipped to Australia where it was re-erected and restored on their family property in Victoria’s High Country. The process took three years and the gorgeous home takes cosy to another level with its beautiful rustic vibes and colour palette inspired by the surrounding landscape.

“Coombs Hill Barn is the most stunning barn conversion I have ever seen! Katherine and Wade designed the interior themselves and were influenced by the colours of the old timber beams of the barn itself. They describe the aesthetic as a perfect combination of traditional, rustic and industrial but I just call it perfect,” says Merrydith.

The ‘Best Designed Stay’ award was taken out by The Winged House in Tasmania’s Table Cape region. Designed by renowned Australian artist and architect Richard Goodwin, from the outside, the unique abode stretches over a cliff and looks like a bird or plane about to take off. But the real spoils are found inside where guests can enjoy a 180-degree perspective of the ocean, eagles above and the occasional seal.

“I think the location of this listing and its design as well as the attention to detail of the hosts makes this a very worthy winner. Guests have said that the photos don’t do it justice, and the experience of staying in this unique home is worth any sacrifice you have to make to experience this place. I have it on my bucket list now!” says Merrydith.

This year’s winning hosts were selected based on extensive Airbnb data, guest scores and reviews and with oversight from a panel of experienced judges.

Live Like Bluey for the weekend: iconic Heeler home recreated by Airbnb

The iconic Heeler family home from hit Australian kids’ show, Bluey, has been recreated ‘for real life’ and is being listed on Airbnb in Brisbane. One lucky family will win the opportunity to live like the Heelers for the ultimate Bluey fan weekend.

Bluey is now a global phenomenon that follows the adventures of Bluey – a six-year-old Blue Heeler dog – who lives with her Mum (Chilli), Dad (Bandit) and little sister Bingo. The show screens in over 60 countries and is loved by both parents and kids for its heart, humour and relatable family moments.

Airbnb has partnered with BBC Studios, co-commissioner and global distributor of Bluey, on this one-of-a-kind experience.

Nestled on a quiet, tree-lined street in Brisbane – the city which has inspired the show’s colourful backdrop – the house has been entirely customised to bring the cartoon experience to life, featuring quirky details Bluey fans will recognise from the Heeler family home in the show.

From the moment guests step onto the front lawn, they’ll be transported to Bluey’s imaginative world as they spot familiar touches like the red letterbox, bone-shaped chimney, and charming bay window.

Inside, the interior has been re-imagined with a breezy Mid-Century aesthetic coupled with playful pops of colour. The girls’ playroom with its signature rainbow canopy, kiwi rug and numerous toys – including Bluey’s beloved Chattermax toy and magic xylophone – is the ultimate setting for creative play and make believe.

Kids can stay overnight in Bluey and Bingo’s bedroom, equipped with two single beds fitted with a custom stained-glass window feature, colourful hanging lanterns, cloud cushions and, of course, a hand-crafted watermelon rug.

Once the kids are snuggled down with Bingo’s Floppy and Grey Dancer toys, parents can retreat to Bandit and Chilli’s airy and plant-filled master bedroom – complete with queen-sized bed, rattan furnishings and neutral hues.

The backyard is a verdant oasis for family games – like Horsey Ride and Keepy Uppy – with a BBQ, trampoline, Grannies’ car, custom toadstool seats and bespoke dog garden gnomes. Yummy snacks can be found in the fully stocked fridge, including Bandit’s famous duck cake.

The weekend getaway includes:

  • An exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Ludo Studio, where Bluey is created
  • A Chinese takeaway feast in the lush backyard (don’t forget the spring rolls!)
  • An afternoon decorating the Heelers’ famous duck cake, where the whole family can test their culinary skills
  • A puppet-making craft session featuring Bluey’s famous Bob Bilby character.

This two-night stay*, sleeping two adults and two children, will take place from Friday 18 February to Sunday 20 February 2022 for only $20** (or $10 dollarbucks a night!). All guests must be residents of Australia. Bookings are available on a first come first serve basis. Bluey fans can request to book this stay on Tuesday 15 February at 8am AEDT at airbnb.com/bluey. To request to book, guests must have a verified Airbnb profile, a history of positive reviews and be aged 18+. Airbnb is committed to helping to ensure each stay is a positive experience for guests, hosts and local neighbourhood communities.

For those who miss out on the stay or are located outside Australia, an Online Experience hosted by one of the Bluey composers Jazz D’Arcy, part of the team behind the music in the series, along with Brisbane-based children’s choreographer, Cherie Lange, will be available for kids and their parents; 10 spots will be available to book in each of three distinct time zones (Australian, US and UK).

Hosted live from Bluey’s house, the whole family can participate in this fully interactive online workshop where guests will be dancing, singing and laughing as Jazz and Cherie recreate some of the most beloved songs and dance moves from the show. Bookings for the Online Experience sessions open on Tuesday 15 February 15 at 8am AEDT at airbnb.com/blueyexperience. Guests who request to book the Online Experience must also have a verified Airbnb profile and be aged 18+.

“Like many parents with young children, I’ve been captivated by the adventures of Bluey and her family, which bring so much joy and quintessential Aussie humour to audiences across the globe,” said Susan Wheeldon, Airbnb country manager for Australia and New Zealand.

“The Heeler house is almost a character in its own right,” says Madeleine Jelfs, Bluey senior marketing manager, BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand. “We’ve been amazed at the outpouring of love the fans have shown for this iconic setting, and for all the beautiful Queensland locations the crew have so lovingly included across the three series. Bringing Bluey’s backdrop to life in such an ingenious and colourful way for our fans has been an absolute delight.”

House rules

  • A game of musical statues to the Bluey theme song is recommended on arrival
  • Please keep sticky geckos off the ceiling
  • Be sure to take some adventurous snaps with Bob Bilby
  • Maximum two adults and two children can stay at the house for the overnight weekend stay
  • For safety reasons, it is recommended children aged four plus sleep in the single beds in the playroom. A cot can be provided for younger guests.
  • No smoking
  • No pets allowed – especially emus named Shaun
  • Reasonable accessible accommodations can be made if required; these will need to be pre-arranged in advance.

All guests must present a negative Covid-19 test result obtained within 72 hours prior to check in. Masks must be worn by adults during the tour of Ludo Studio and when interacting with campaign staff.

Created by Joe Brumm and made entirely in Brisbane Australia, Bluey is produced by the multi-Emmy award-winning Ludo Studio for ABC KIDS (Australia) and is co-commissioned by ABC Children’s and BBC Studios, with production support from the Australian Government through Screen Australia, and support from the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Incentive.

Guests are responsible for their own travel to and from Brisbane. Airbnb is closely monitoring Brisbane infection rates and government policies and will offer booking guests a AUD $1,000 Airbnb credit if it becomes necessary to cancel the stay.

Airbnb owner? 10 expert tips to elevate your holiday rental

By Katrina Lumsden

Own a holiday home or thinking of buying one? With our travel bubble ever changing, owning your own space to escape is such a luxury. There are also so many holiday properties popping up on the market, so how do you ensure that your property stands out when potential guests are looking for their next holiday stay? Don’t underestimate the gold mine you might be sitting on!

Investing in creating a beautiful and inviting space could not only earn you a passive income but also attract the right kind of guest who will return over and over. So how do you take your holiday property from drab to fab?

Interior stylist Katrina Lumsden

Declutter
Nobody wants to stay in a home that feels overcrowded and cluttered. The flow of a holiday home should be easy and open so that your guests can feel relaxed.

Styling & aesthetic
Transformation through thoughtfully selected interior styling can instantly elevate your holiday home. This is one of the most important aspects of creating a successful Airbnb experience along with increasing your overall bookings and profits! The initial investment you make will return to you over and over again.

Katrina at work

Exterior of the property
First impressions count – when your guest pulls up outside your property for the first time, you want them to feel excited to get inside and explore their new stay. Invest in garden maintenance, upkeep of painting and pool areas.

Light & bright
If your property doesn’t have great natural light, think about how you can improve that. Can you remove heavy curtains and add light sheers? Can you install a skylight? Can you give your home a fresh coat of paint?

Bed linen
Never underestimate the power of beautiful, crisp linen! When you purchase good quality linen including bed covers, cushions and pillows this allows your guest to feel they are sleeping in luxury. Comfortable beds and bedding are a huge part of your guests’ stay so invest your money in quality.

Haven Interiors

The set-up
How often have you settled into your holiday accommodation, decided to have a drink and there is no bottle opener? Or you wake up in the morning and there is only instant coffee available? Think about what it is that you love when you are staying in a property. It is the thoughtful little inclusions that will make your property one that your guests will rave about to their friends.

The experience
Do you remember that holiday you had where you played board games until late into the night or sat by the firepit reminiscing with family? These are the things people remember when they stay in your property and share with their friends. Think about how you can create memorable experiences for your guests to connect with their loved ones.

Haven Interiors

Know your market
Knowing who your ideal guests are is important when marketing your property. A cute single bedroom studio will appeal to couples so you could add a bottle of champagne and strawberries on arrival! If your market is families then a platter of afternoon tea when they arrive is a beautiful way to welcome your guests and these are the things they will review, return and refer for.

Photography
Have you ever gone to book a holiday property online and the photos are blurry or there’s not enough to see the whole property and what’s included? Investing in professional photography is an absolute game-changer in the marketing of your property. This is the first impression of your property and an opportunity to show your guests how they can relax in the space. You want to grab a potential guest’s attention, get them to stop scrolling and book your property!

Haven Interiors

The brand
Believe it or not, your holiday home has its own brand. If you treat it as such you will create a successful and profitable small business that will generate passive income while increasing the value of the property as a whole. Your brand strategy, marketing and the overall story that you tell about your property, will allow it to become a wanderlust-worthy destination.

With Airbnb searches for unusual spaces (think shepherds’ huts, windmills and tiny houses) having increased by nearly 70 per cent over the last year, people are clearly seeking unique holiday experiences. In response, and in great news for budding designers, Airbnb has just launched a $1 million USD search for the most unique home ideas.

The fund is the company’s first-ever $1 million USD ($1.5 million AUD) program and it’s designed to enable anyone with an extraordinary house idea to design and build it, and then share it with travellers all over the world.

So, if you’ve got a unique home idea that needs funding to take flight, now just might be the time. Submissions, which are open until mid-April 2020, will be judged against a set of criteria including creativity, feasibility, sustainability and social good.

The most obvious criteria, ‘creativity,’ asks that a successful entry be full of surprises, both inside and out. The ‘feasibility’ category asks you to demonstrate how you’d pull off the project with a budget of $100,000 USD. ‘Sustainability’ will be judged in terms of the project’s use of recycled materials, energy efficiency, smart irrigation, waste reduction and its overall environmental footprint, while ‘social good’ looks at the way the project would benefit guests, neighbours and the community at large.

Ten recipients will be selected by a panel of design and style innovators including award-winning actor Billy Porter, Airbnb Superhost Kirstie Wolfe (of the famed Big Idaho Potato Hotel), and global cutting-edge architecture firm MVRDV.

“The only thing better than pushing the boundaries of style, is empowering others to do the same. I’m thrilled to join Airbnb in this global search for the most outrageous, spectacular home ideas ever. I can’t wait to see these concepts developed by design lovers from around the world first-hand,” says Billy Porter.

MVRDV partner Fokke Moerel is equally enthusiastic. “The Unique Airbnb Fund is a great initiative that makes hospitality exciting. It will empower people to create new spaces with daring, imaginative and fantastic architecture,” says Fokke.

Luxury travel: Stay high-end with the new Airbnb Luxe

One of the best things about going on holiday is the chance to stay somewhere fabulous that you could never afford to own outright. Am I right? And the desire to stay in a home that is a destination in itself is reflected in the launch of Airbnb Luxe which promises to make personal and bespoke travel more accessible to everyone via its portfolio of more than 2,000 luxury homes across the globe.

The launch is in direct response to consumer demand with the number of high-end Airbnb bookings (listings worth at least $1,000 per night) increasing by more than 60 per cent in 2018. Whether it’s premium materials, rare features, chef-grade appliances or homes with multiple bathrooms that accommodate large groups, the Airbnb Luxe properties have to pass strict evaluation across 300+ criteria. And given each booking provides access to a dedicated 24/7 trip designer (ensuring the trip is tailored to your unique needs), the new offering transcends mere aesthetics.

From 70s shack to boutique hideaway in just 12 weeks!

With a successful home renovation behind them, Courtney and Marcus Leslie set themselves a mammoth task: to transform a run down 70s shack on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, into a Scandinavian-inspired boutique hideaway. The biggest challenge? Doing it in just 12 weeks! But somehow they pulled it off.

Completing most of the project on their own – luckily Marcus is an electrican – they flipped the house on its head, creating a brand new floor plan. “To ensure we kept within our very tight budget we kept the roofline the same and didn’t touch anything structural, but we changed everything else,” explains Courtney. “We’ve gone from a two bedroom, one bathroom shack into a three bedroom, two bathroom home.”

Once disjointed, with an uneven floor height and “confusing” floor plan, the holiday retreat is now modern, luxurious and filled with natural light. Creating a new entrance, hallway, main bathroom with laundry and three bedrooms (the master with ensuite and private decked terrace), all rooms now lead to the new open plan living space. Featuring a kitchen, dining and lounge room, which opens onto a huge, sun drenched deck, it’s definitely a highlight of the residence.

“My absolute favourite part of the home has to be the new open plan living space with beautiful French doors that open onto a spacious deck,” says Courtney. “I also really love the ceilings, as we added v-groove panelling between the existing beams, which gives the space so much more character.”

Currently listed on Airbnb and being enjoyed by many holidaymakers, it was a renovation that almost didn’t happen, thanks to limited time and limited resources. “Trying to complete the project in such a short timeframe was definitely a challenge,” explains Courtney. “This was made even more difficult by the fact we were only able to work on the house part time. Having two young children to look after and running an electrical business left very little time to renovate, however, somehow we managed to completely transform the house – all within 12 weeks – and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.”

Sibella Court’s new space, TV show and book and life as a travelling mum

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard much from Sibella Court, the Sydney stylist with a (no exaggeration really) cult following. But rest assured, behind the scenes, it is all happening! Today, we’re bringing you all the news on her new warehouse premises, TV show, boutique accommodation, book and last but by no means least daughter, baby Silver.

Low key Sibella is as busy as ever

Sibella recently opened an amazing warehouse space – the all new Society Inc — in Sydney’s St Peters and we couldn’t wait to shoot it. Replacing her former tiny, packed-to-the-rafters shop in Paddington, it’s quite a change but the aesthetic is as distinctly Sibella as ever.

“At the beginning of last year, I saw the space for sale on Doody Street, a space I knew well from my early styling years. I viewed it, it was completely out of my price bracket and way too big, but it woke my imagination to be in a much larger space,” she says.

“I create interiors and I wanted clients, guests and customers to be able to experience the pages of my books by walking through sets, installations and vignettes and purchasing the pieces I put in my hospitality spaces (Ms G’s, Mr Wong, El Loco, Palmer & Co and Bistrode CBD to name but a few), as well as celebrating all the fabulous makers, designers, artists and creators I work with and have forged friendships with over a 20+ year career in the styling world.”

The L-shape space has been split into 65% public and 35% private. The public space will be “a combination of retail, installation, activity, magic and fantasy; a sensory experience that feels as though you’re walking amongst the pages of one of my books,” also used for workshops, talks, photography, dinner parties, flea markets, launches, events and whatever else takes her fancy. “It will showcase some of our handpicked favourite people, artists and companies that we have loved and worked with over the years.”

Sibella and her team will be launching brands not previously available in Australia from all over the globe (the USA, Netherlands, the Caribbean and the UK to name but a few) and if there’s one woman who knows how to curate, it’s her! There’ll also be two container sales a year from her travel destinations.

The dream space will also serve as an art gallery, where you can purchase the pieces displayed within her installations and vignettes. “Above all else, it will an interactive space that changes and invites conversation, with exciting products, exchange of ideas and fun!” The private side of the space will serve as a studio for her hospitality design work, ever-popular books and product development.

But that’s not all! That beautiful little 1860s corner terrace in leafy Paddington, which used to house The Society Inc, is now on Airbnb and you can stay there, or indeed host an event in the space. “We’ve turned it into a pied-a-terre; a one-bedroom hotel, a very boutique experience. It’s aimed at the weary pilgrim who needs to rest their head after a long journey, however with a little more than a humble stretcher.

“We are often asked by curious international parties about our favourite Australian furniture makers, artists, crafters, textile designers, dyers, tinkers and smiths and the like. This is where we will be showcasing some our favourites and sharing the love. It will be a sensory experience; an imaginarium of curiosities, forever changing and never finished, again, like being in the pages of one of my books.” A huge fan of sites like Airbnb and onefinestay, she hopes to appeal to those seeking a personal experience that gives their adventures a richer and deeper involvement in a Sydney stay and a fond memory to take home. Well, I live in Sydney and I’m despearately trying to find an excuse to stay there myself!

societyinc_jacquiturk-13

Sibella is not known for being a self-publicist (some would say an essential part of the stylist’s job these days) and perhaps her air of mystery, ironically, is what keeps people coming back for more. She also travels so far and wide that she is rarely in town for long. But becoming a mum hasn’t slowed down the laidback bowerbird. “Silver comes along for the ride and she is only little so she fits into my Filson bag! As any small business owner knows, there is no rest for the wicked. I have two babies now – Silver and The Society Inc.”

But we’re happy to hear we’ll see a lot more of the stylist this year. After two years of shooting, Sibella has a TV show coming up on the ABC later this year called Restoration Australia. “This year is as busy as ever with lots of hospitality spaces being designed, new product ranges in fragrance, furniture and soft furnishings, an Anthropologie collaboration, The Stylist’s Guide to the Globe (her latest book), collaborations and plenty of exciting, cool stuff.”

societyinc_jacquiturk-35

She’ll never be in one spot for too long though: “Part of my job description is to travel — it is the root of my inspiration for all things.”
