Thomas Bucich on virtual working and his latest collaboration with Becker Minty

Renowned interior designer Thomas Bucich moved to Sydney from New York in 1990 and has been living a bit of a ‘gypsy’ existence ever since, enjoying the best of an international and flexible lifestyle.

These days working anywhere in the world is so much easier,” he says. “Since I moved to Sydney, I’ve always maintained all my professional contacts to keep me current on what’s going on back home, but the bulk of my work is in Sydney.”

He likes to maintain a ‘virtual studio’ with most of his time spent between his design and art studios in Sydney and Avalon on the Northern Beaches. “I love having the flexibility of doing what I do without being tied down to a specific place. I collaborate with some amazing people around the globe. Between Skype sessions and emails, we can make design projects happen anywhere.”

Thomas’ latest collaboration, which he’s very excited about, is with one of my favourite homewares stores, Becker Minty, in Potts Point. “Jason Minty is an amazing entrepreneur and retailer with an aesthetic that I really connect with,” he says. “His stores encapsulate the style I like to create with my interiors, based on collecting one of a kind pieces and adding luxurious finishes and textures. We had a chat about creating an interior design studio in-house that would complete the offering of the store; to make Becker Minty a one-stop-shop for everything from cufflinks to fully bespoke interiors.”

Sunday Snippets: The best of the week in interiors

  •  I am a big fan of stylist Jane Frosh and this week I featured her Blue Mountains home, which is up for sale. It was recently on the cover of Country Style and it is AMAZING. Check it out.

It’s been a fantastic week for PR, with a double-pager in Ivy & Piper magazine and a feature in The West Australian’s Habitat section. I’m always really grateful for and excited by press coverage. I love getting the Interiors Addict message out far and wide so I was particularly please to be in a WA newspaper.

This coming week my apartment is being photographed for Northside magazine’s ‘At home with’ feature. I’m a little nervous, I must admit!

I’m looking forward to speaking at decoration + design in Melbourne on Friday. I’ll be there on Thursday too. If you’re exhibiting or coming to my talk with Darren Palmer, please let me know and I’ll try and make time to say hi! I’m making a weekend of it and can’t wait to stay at The Blackman, one of the art series hotels. The interiors look stunning and I can’t wait to check it out.

In totally unrelated news, this week I took the diamond my fiancé proposed with to the jeweller to be made into my engagement ring. VERY exciting and still floating on a post-engagement cloud…

I’m off to watch Downton Abbey. Have a fantastic week ahead and I hope to meet lots of you at decoration + design!

Interiors Addict in The West Australian

I’m hoping to spread the interiors addiction to Perth and beyond after appearing in The West Australian newspaper on Friday!

Big thanks to Cat Burke and Jason Minty at Becker Minty for letting me have my photo taken in the beautiful Potts Point store earlier this week. If you’re in Sydney, go visit!

Becker Minty is DIVINE!

This morning I had my photograph taken for The West Australian newspaper. They’re running a story on me and my blog later this week. They asked to take it at my home (sorry, no, too stressful! Not ready for my home to be judged just yet! But one day…) or a favourite homewares store. Now despite having interviewed owner Jason Minty, featured beautiful photos of the store on this blog and heard a million and one good things about it from stylists and fellow interiors addicts, I’d never actually been in. But I knew it would be a great place to have my photo taken and I wasn’t wrong. I’m hoping being surrounded by gorgeous things makes me look better in the photos!

June’s top 5 most popular posts!

Happy July! I had some record traffic last month, which is always nice! And today is my birthday so no original content today if you don’t mind. I have presents to open 😉

Here are last month’s most popular posts:

Top 10 interior styling essentials From cushions and candles to trays and books, I put together my own top 10 interior styling essentials. They’re all things you probably already have or can pick up cheaply to change the look and feel of your home. It does’t have to cost a fortune to make a big impact! Incidentally, I wrote this post after reading a chapter of my Problogger eBook about list posts and how popular they are. Turns out that was good advice then! Are there any other top 10s you’d like to read here?

New Brunswick bar takes cues from west coast Art Deco My blog’s pretty Sydney centric but this post about a new Melbourne bar had you all excited. I’m thinking of including more content about bar, restaurant and hotel  interiors. Would you like that?

It takes two: Meet Arent & Pyke The amount of time this interview took to line up became a bit of a running joke with Juliette, Sarah-Jane and I but it was worth the wait! These two women have got to be Sydney’s hottest female design duo.

Becker Minty celebrates five years of bringing us unique and beautiful homewares and fashion I loved this interview with Becker Minty owner Jason Minty who is so obviously passionate about what he does. Congrats on your five-year store anniversary last month!

Stacey Kouros: from Greg Natale’s protege to respected interior designer in her own right Another reality TV star done good in the interiors industry, Stacey (who is lovely) also benefited from several years training under award-winning designer Natale. But these days she’s doing her own thing and loving every minute.

Becker Minty celebrates five years of bringing us unique and beautiful homewares and fashion

Becker Minty is a not a shop, it’s a lifestyle concept, and one very much wrapped up in the personal taste of its owner. The Potts Point institution turns five this month and at a time when eCommerce is robbing many independent shops of their livelihoods, Becker Minty is bucking the trend by constantly offering something new, getting the un-gettable and providing much more than just a shopping destination.

We wanted to create a place that was more of a retail and design experience,” says founder Jason Minty. “When people walk through the front door I want them to completely leave the outside world behind and immerse themselves into our world. We are a destination store that provides an entire experience. There are products to tantalise every sense and customers are seduced by the beauty around them.”
